WORST dining experience and 14 year anniversary dinner of my life. Here I am on my way to a San Francisco hospital for food poisoning after eating at this restaurant last night July 30, 2019 less than 24hrs ago. I had the Scallops, Sashimi Spoon, 4 oz Wagyu blend, Mac M Cheese and Corn. About 30 minutes after eating I was running to their bathroom vomiting violently. So bad that one of their patrons came to my aid to help me. After I thought that was over I went back up and less than 10 minutes I was back. In there Vomiting. I informed the waitress and immediately they acted as if we were trying to pull a fast one. Being very accusatory and trying to give us a lesson on how the human body works and food poisoning. Also telling me that I ate too much. Which is not true. When the man clears our table half of both side dishes were left. But we have to defend ourselves as I am sitting at the table in pain. It's because we were African American that they had to treat us so poorly that the Manager wouldn't even come over to check on us. RACIST!!! They treated us like when we're just trying to get out of paying because that's immediately what she stated...Saying I have to go plead a case to my manager for you all. Are you serious?!?! Your manager surely can't come down off their soap box to speak to them poor Black Folks. So they admitted that it could have been the scallops or sashimi the waitress said and took that $25 off the bill. Well 5A5 I am now arriving at the hospital where I am sure to pay a $5500 emergency room bill which is pennies compared to that $214 meal. I would steer clear of this place. This is the last day of our getaway in San Francisco and this experience has definitely ruined it. I'll be reaching out to the Health Department here to file a complaint as well as contacting an attorney. Next time treat your customers like human beings and have compassion no matter what...
Read moreAtmosphere: Very cozy and trendy. Low lit, I saw some of the older crowd taking out their phones and using the flash lights to look at the menu. I would say the crowd would be 50% business people, 40% couples and 10% family. There is a main floor and a level below, accessed by an elevator, once the elevator opens, you can walk straight forward for the toilets. There are no doors, it's quite interesting, you'll see the faucets, and there are individual stalls. I also believe these are where the more private dining areas are for larger groups.
Service: Awesome, knowledgeable and personable. Came by at the right time and made sure we felt comfortable. She said she worked there for 5 years, which gave her enough time to sample everything on the menu if we needed any recommendations.
Food: We did the A5 Experience. Melt in your mouth. If you have the means, definitely go for this. I'm pretty sure it's ruined all other types of meat for my boyfriend. Presented nicely, each 4 oz. piece was cooked perfectly. Our server said for the last piece, which had the most marbling, could be cut with a fork. It did. And I couldn't resist, I love potato au gratin, so I ordered one to accompany the dinner, it was very creamy and were made with different types of potatoes. (And still good the next day, could not finish, had to take home) For dessert I got the sorbet because everything we had for dinner was so rich. So many different flavors, I loved the passion fruit the orange was such a kick in the mouth. My boyfriend took our server's suggestion and got the Opera Cake, it was sooo good, crispy and...
