Pier 14 wasn't established when Stephen Lee Cropper and Otis Redding were writing the lyrics for (Sittinâ on) The Dock of the Bay, but it is a popular spot among visitors today. Located between the Bay Bridge and the Ferry Building, it primarily serves as a pedestrian walkway. Nowadays, you can also see scooters, bikes, skateboards, and more everywhere!
The pier extends far out into the bay, offering stunning views of the city skyline, the Bay Bridge, and Yerba Buena Island. On a clear day, you can even see the Golden Gate Bridge in the distance.
The pier is a favorite place for locals and tourists alike to take a stroll, enjoy the fresh air, and take in the beautiful sights. Fishermen often line the edge of the pier, hoping to catch some of the bay's fish. There are also benches along the pier where you can sit and relax, or just watch the world go by.
In addition, Pier 14 is a great spot for taking photos. With the bay on one side and the city skyline on the other, it provides the perfect backdrop for memorable pictures.
So go sit in the mornin' sun and be sittin' there when the evenin' comes! You can watch the ships roll in; then watch 'em roll away again! Yes, you'll be sittin' on the dock of the bay watchin' the tide roll away, and remember there is nothing wrong with wastin' time!
Visiting Pier 14 is a simple pleasure that showcases the natural beauty and vibrant life of San Francisco's waterfront. Whether you're looking for a quiet place to think, a spot to fish, or a perfect photo opportunity, Pier 14 has something...

For one parking is plentiful and you can get right up to it. Also the tourists and resident have not opened up yet, so you can get some great photographs without the crowds in them. Three, if you do have people within your frame, they usually work with the scene because they are either jogging, walking the dog or biking. That works perfectly with the morning...
