After riding the rail car for the first time I was hooked, needing some more information on the history of transit for the San Francisco region I stopped by the railway museum. I was immersed in a concentrated treasure trove knowledge not only regarding the railway system in San Francisco but also got some tid bits of information about the old Detroit railway which was really cool seeing something from home when you’re 2,000 miles away. The two lady’s that were running the museum are so passionate in what they do and it shows. I wish I could’ve asked the other lady what her name was but SUPER informative and Rose who gave me a pretty in depth history lesson. Not only are they interested in showing San Francisco’s history but those running the railway museum are so adamant on the preservation of it. Read moreIt's hard for me to talk about what happened but with what just happened in Canada... The Annual Rainway Museum Festival was fantastic- the children had a blast and the adults were shooting pics non stop. So I'm waiting for a streetcar du jour to arrive because I'm doing a calendar and I'm looking through the display of old books, magazines, etc available for purchase. And what do I see? A DVD of THE TRIUMPH OF THE WILL by Lenni what's her face. On open display to purchase for $ 15 and for the children to see. Can someone please explain what connection is there between Lenni and our streetcars. Did she take part in designing them or something? My hands were shaking but I was able to finish the photo shoot. But I'm not entirely sure I want to renew my membership. My Godfather's parents were butchered at Aushwitz. And yes- I took a pic...
Read moreThis is a small, one room, free museum that is packed with history. So much of San Francisco is defined by transportation: the street cars, cable cars, Golden Gate Bridge, to name a few. This museum has photos of early San Francisco, from the 19th century before the Ferry Building was built. It has a time line of San Francisco's transportation history, photos of the San Francisco Bay before the Golden Gate bridge was built, a replica of the front of a street car, with the gears that show how it was opperated, and a lot more! I spent nearly an hour in this one small room, and I don't think I saw everything. I am definitely going to go back again. And did I...
