It's very disappointing to say the manager ( I believe his name is Nick ) is the rudest, most discriminative person I've ever met in my life! This is my first and last time staying here! When I first arrived with my suitcase and backpack, he looked me up and down like he was disgusted by the fact I even exist. ( Keep in mind there's nothing about my appearance that would signify that. I'm a very clean person. ) There's a lot of homeless people on the street here and most of them are black. When he saw that I myself am also black it's like something inside him snapped. He started immediately yelling at me and refused to let me in for 5 minutes. When he finally did, I gave him my government issued ID and he tried to act like it was fake and started interrogating me, but his machine showed him it was real. He gave me a very nasty look before he gave it back to me. This was my first impression of him. If someone else entered the room he would be all smiles and like a whole different person, but as soon as they left he was back to how he was. He tried to immediately over-charge me, but after I brought up the prices I saw online he stopped. Each day I've been here, he keeps threatening me and yelling at me. As of the moment I'm writing this, this is my third day here and I have two more. About 10 minutes ago I went downstairs to tell him that I need a new blanket, because the one he gave and said was washed had all kinds of people's hair and crumb looking things on it. ( I don't have blonde or long brown hair, so I know it's not mine ) It irritated my skin to the point I can't even go 30 seconds without itching like crazy and every time I used it and tried to sleep it felt like I was getting bit up all over my body. I went to the office to let him know and he starts yelling at me again louder and louder after seeing I'm obviously upset. He threatened to kick me out immediately and starts taking about how he has permission from the city to have this building and they wash/ do pest control every month and I don't have the right to do an investigation, they do. Keep in mind all I wanted was a new blanket. The carpet on the floors are turning BLACK from all the dirt, the bathrooms are FILTHY with no toilet paper. There's always water and mystery liquid on the floors. The rooms are so stuffy I can barely breathe. Whenever I exit the building to go to work I end up coughing up so much dust and mucus just from being here. When I wake up in the mornings it takes so much to even be able to breathe comfortably. Even with the windows opened it doesn't make a difference. After the way he treated me today I had to call him out that he's been extremely rude to me since before I even walked in the door when I first got here. He thinks he can treat anybody any kind of way. I usually don't match people's energies and try to move on with grace, but I had to call him out. Sometimes one can only endure so much. I've seen him treat other people this way too during my stay. No offense but the only time I've seen him not treat people like this was when there was a white lady or a white guy in his office. I don't know why he feels so bold to do all of this on camera consistently. Keep in mind all I wanted was a different,...
Read moreThe homeless people surrounding the area are MORE FRIENDLY then the hostel stuff. If I could I will send CONTROL to forse them clean. I arrived around noon. My husband and I checked in with no problem, paid our 20 deposit in cash having already paid for 2 nights on hotels.com. two exceptional young guests (omigod I sound like an old granny) helped us up to the third floor as I pack too much, and the Hostel has no elevator.
I met up w my sister who happened to be in the not-so-nice neighborhood. I brought her to our room to rest before heading home. She was there late, 2am (night owls we are) we were very quiet, compared to the high pitched female laughter coming from the hall. But, it's a hostel, it's to be expected. No big deal .
She left after I walked her out, and went to sleep. 💤
9am the next morning POUND POUND POUND. No visitors, the owners say you have to leave, um, NOW.
Shoot, total misunderstanding. So sorry, would never ever had done that if I knew.
Nope.
we had to pack up and leave. Extremely humiliating. We are a middle aged couple, who are experiencing a difficult housing situation; by no fault of our own.
We are also on a fixed low income, or we would have booked a fancier spot, as it is the cheapest rooms in sf run 48- plus 16% tax.
I asked for our deposit and that nights room cost.
Nope. Huh, really? Seemed fishy, I get the deposit. I willingly ate that, it was my bad that I didn't research or ask enough questions.
I was told to get it back from hotels.com. who also (when I called later) absolutely — because of my misbehavior!?;?— would not refund anything, AFTER they called the Hostel.
We walked out and were accosted by a patron, almost physically, called my husband "Brody" and really got in our physical space (hey mannnn personal bubble) —so much for discretion—after he insulted us he mentioned that some folk live there...hmmm... and we had caused a serious breech. By my 54 yo sister.? Who almost walks with a cane, who feels absolutely terrible. Who (out of respect for the venue) I walked out.
I reiterate, if I knew no visitors were permitted I would never had broken that rule. I have booked rooms all over sf, Oakland and Berkeley. I'm not an idiot.
BTW I looked on hotels.com, there is/was zero mention of no visitors (I'm sure it will be changed now), and the lovely young woman (no not facetious) who checked us in said nothing.
Ps. The young man who wouldn't refund anything threw the owners right under the bus, and I get he is not responsible for no refund. BUT he also had no discretion, and that is bad customer service.
I am disputing this whole cluster-cuss with my bank.
All that aside:
Lord, I really feel like a granny with all of the young man this young woman that...but just because I...
