The rates were cheap, so I was not expecting anything fancy or top-tier. I typically stay at cheap hotels and motels whenever I travel because I prefer to spend money on adventures rather than simply the place I sleep. The location of the hotel is nice, but be aware that this is on the border of the Tenderloin neighborhood. If you are not familiar with SF, be sure to Google it and understand the area you will be staying in. Statistically, the neighborhood stands out in its rates of drugs, homelessness, and crime. Nothing happened to us, thankfully, but I wish we would have known more ahead of time. The rate is cheap. There is no ice machine. Two shared bathrooms per floor. A few shower stalls per floor. While the rooms have apparently been "renovated," it is quite clear that the walls were simply doused in a coating of paint instead of properly redone. The window in our room would not stay open, so we had to prop it open with drink bottles (as shown in the picture). Because the window itself was so heavy, my partner and I had to work together to lift it, only to find out that the window does not properly fit, so it almost completely fell in on us. The bedding and furniture is extremely minimal. A sturdier bed frame with nicer bedding and pillows would have helped a great deal - we struggled with sleep each night. The front desk was courteous, but nothing noteworthy.

The steam heater in my room broke while I was out and was spewing steam into my enclosed room turning my room into a sauna. Told the front desk person and he came 10 minutes to mop up the water. It is located in the epicenter of the fentanyl epidemic so you won't feel safe walking in or out. You will hear yelling and fighting at night so some people will probably have trouble falling asleep. The room is very minimal, as expected for the price. Wish there was more storage space. Sheets were clean and there's a sink in the room so it's got the bare minimum. About 2 toilets and shower rooms on each floor, the shower is the most cramped shower I've ever used. There is a shared kitchen but the only thing useful there is the microwave. The sink was filthy. The only good things I can say about the place is that it's in the center of the city and that it's cheap. I would recommend spending slightly more or even double for a better hotel. This is only worth it if you can't afford anywhere else and you just need a bed.

Lived here for more than 3 months. It was pretty great. Heart of downtown, so easy to get around. It gets a little sketchy past 11pm but not unsafe. Staff is super friendly and accommodating.

I had booked a single deluxe room; it was very spacious and I loved how there was hanging space and plenty of drawers. I was there for a week and so it was nice to be able to properly unpack and have my things organised. The room would be comfortable even for two people. The room did not have air conditioning but had a ceiling fan which I actually prefer to aircon; it was July yet the room never became too hot. The window was able to open and there was a screen mesh to prevent bugs entering. I asked for and got a kettle for the room to heat my own water. Stable free Wifi.||There was a shared bathroom thus is was appreciated that was a sink in the bedroom (had toiletries, flannels and towels provided). The shared toilet and shower facilities were always clean and even though I was there a week there was never a time that I had to wait/they were occupied when I wanted to use them. The shower room had a curtain separating the wet and dry areas and there was plenty of hooks to hand items. Everywhere was always clean. The hotel itself was very quiet, there was sometimes noise from the street during the evening though it never disturbed me. ||There is a small basic kitchen area if you want to prepare some simple dishes ( I never used it), and a laundry where a wash and dry is very reasonably priced. ||The hotel is in a very good location and I found it ideal for exploring San Francisco. Powell street BRT is a direct line to the train station, there is a streetcar (F) which goes directly to the piers, and a bus (7) which goes along Fell Street to Golden Gate park and if you went to the end of the line it goes to the other end of Golden Gate Park/coast/beach. I walked to other areas. It is ideal if you plan to go to any concerts, and the International Art Museum of America (free entry) is only a couple of mins walk. There are many eating places in the surrounding streets including a food court with reasonably priced food – included an Ikea restaurant where hotdogs are one dollar. ||The hotel felt safe and secure. The front door is always locked and there is a key card to enter the hotel and the rooms. I appreciated that not once did the key card become desensitised. The hotel is in the Mission District and thus the area does have some homeless people around; you would not notice much during the day, though many more during the evening. I am a female travelling solo and I never had any problems with any people in the area and never felt unsafe. Evening during the evening the streets are so busy that you don’t feel vulnerable as there are so many people around. I could see from my bedroom window that through the night large crowds would congregate at the corner opposite the hotel, sometimes could be noisy, and they made lots of rubbish, however, everything was cleaned up and by the next morning there was no trace of it…that is a sign that the area is taken care of. ||Staff were always friendly and helpful. Overall, I enjoyed my stay and would have no hesitation in staying again. There was no false advertising , and was what I expected, in fact, when considering the reviews, was better than I was expecting. If people want comfortable, clean basic accommodation you can’t go wrong with this. My ratings are based on getting what...

This place is so easy to get to as it is near Powell street BART Station, a direct route from the airport for only 11 dollars (can download the clipper app to apple pay). It makes it easy to travel the city via the subway, street car or buses. There are many other hotels and theatres in the area making it an ideal location to stay if you are going to a concert or show. I went to a concert and was able to walk back to the hotel after the performance; yes, there were many homeless people around but so what, being homeless is not a crime. The streets were active and I never felt unsafe even as a female travelling alone. One evening I was walking along and came to a place with a large crowd of people; someone who saw me coming called out ‘clear the sidewalk’. The hotel has keycard access and the front door is locked 24 hours a day. You need to walk up a flight of stairs to get to reception, and the elevator works from there up to all the other floors. Notices on the wall state to call for assistance if you need help bringing luggage up to the first floor (I did not).I had the deluxe room with shared bathroom facilities. The room was spacious and had a sink which is fabulous to have when having shared bathroom facilities. Everywhere was clean and tidy including showers and toilets. Free WiFi was stable. I asked for and got a kettle to be able to make my morning cup of tea. In my opinion this place has a good location in terms of how connected it is to public transport, closeness to theatre venues, and the surrounding streets have so many places to eat. There is traffic/inner city noise so not a suitable choice for someone who is a light sleeper or a timid/inexperienced traveller who is afraid of being in a city. I have experienced much worse…here I never felt unsafe or concerned about the environment as I have done in other cities/places I have stayed. My review and ratings are always in the context of what was advertised. It was as expected based on the hotels description and better than expected based on many reviews thus proving most people who write reviews are doing it to complain about something there are...
