Just had bad service at the Santa Cruz Mattress Firm on river street. I go to college in the Bay Area and had been sleeping on an air mattress the first semester which recently deflated. I was home in Santa Cruz for the holidays so I thought I would get a mattress here and take it back up to Berkeley with me. However I got covid so that got delayed for most of the break.
At first the salesmen was super nice and helpful but when we told him we needed it in a bit of a hurry he assured us that ot would be there Monday between 10:30 and 12:30pm. He said they would call us when it arrives. Monday morning comes, no call. We go to the store and another salesman told us it wasn’t there. He then told us that we the delivery time was from 3pm to 5pm. Since I have to start classes tomorrow this meant I was facing a week without a bed!
To make matters worse this new salesman was quite rude. He asked, “Who told you that? That’s not our delivery time” and he said everything with an accusing time as if we were lying. When we told him what we had been told he said, “Did he said it COULD be here then or WOULD be here then? Cuz those are two different things” Again as if this was our fault. Not even a “sorry for the inconvenience”
So now I’ll be getting up at 5am to drive up to the Bay Area and start classes tomorrow.
I understand that we came somewhat last minute, and if not for being sick I would have come sooner. The first guy probably just didn’t know and the second guy had nothing to do with it. But still we were assured of one thing and we treated like idiots for expecting what we were told to expect. If they had told us that it would not arrive until 4pm when we first came in two days earlier then we would have accepted that and figured something else out. But we were misled and it threw everything into chaos and we just to add insult to injury we were tread poorly.

Read more4/26 UPDATE: Once again the mattress they promised is unavailable. Now they are saying that yet another (the 3rd) mattress has been ordered and will be shipped in 7-10 days. That means I won't get the mattress until it has been 2 full months since they took my money. The thing is, I probably won't get that one either because the manufacturer says it is out of stock. This company is the worst I have ever dealt with. Removing a star.
UPDATE: Mattress Firm offered me a comparable mattress and said it will be delivered this coming week. I wish they had offered this a month ago when they first realized the mattress I ordered and PAYED for would be delayed at least a month. Bumping the rating from a 1 star to a 3 for now... If everything goes well I may add a star or two.
I ordered a mattress and adjustable base online over a month ago, they almost immediately charged my card but later said my order was cancelled due to inventory limitations. A day or two later they changed their story and said it would be delayed til late April. My order still says it will be 2-3 weeks before it's shipped. Even 2 weeks is past April. They have had my money for over a month and have failed to provide the items paid for. Beginning to think I am going to have to file complaints with the department of weights and measures as well as other consumer protection agencies. I would not recommend Mattress Firm to anyone. It's odd, they keep sending me emails asking for me to rate my experience, well it has been horrible.
