September 5 - 7, 2014, my friends and I stayed at this Ocean Gate Inn for my birthday/bachelorette weekend. We arrived early, asked for Queen beds instead of the single King that was original requested. The room wasn't ready at the time, but the owner believed the previous person had checked out, so we entered the room to take a look. We experienced one bed was slept in, the coffee pot was used, and the house shampoo was used and in the shower. We left the room to allow housekeeping to get it ready for us. When we returned, we had noticed that the shampoo packet was in the same place, and the coffee pot still had coffee in the carafe. Throughout the weekend, we did further inspection of the room and found that the complimentary shampoo and coffee pods or cups weren't refilled, as you'd think they would do. Knowing at check in that there were now 3 people, we had to ask for an extra set of towels.
We took pictures of the areas that we thought deserved this rating. The showerhead is rusted, the shower curtain at the bottom was discolored, and the bathroom door had dirty foot prints on the bottom; inside the door, and the ceiling has several mildew spots over the shower. The microwave had food spatter on the top. Not something you'd want to fall into your heated meal or beverage. Yuck! The wood backing on the chairs around the table were filthy. You know when greasy fingers touch the back of the chair, and they get caked with dirt and grime? You can scrape it off, it's disgusting! On the ceiling there are dead gnats stuck to the paint, and the one colored wall was dusty with palm prints on it.
Ownership of this Inn, you need to get a grip...
Read moreI booked my room at the beginning of June, for my visit to Santa Cruz on June 30 Saturday. When I first booked this room I had specific instructions that I wanted the room with a balcony smoking that faced the boardwalk, with the view of the boardwalk. I called on Monday, June 4 just to ensure the room I wanted was the room I was going to get , The lady I spoke to on the phone insured me that that was the room I was going to get, she was hard to understand broken English, so I called again on June 7 just to make sure I was going to be able to get that room. I was told at that time yes that is the room you will have. I showed up this past Saturday afternoon June 30 as scheduled, and of course that was not the room I was going to be able to get when I told them I had called twice previous to make sure they had no clue acted like I was stupid, now at this point I’m there and thinking there’s probably no the rooms available tonight for Santa Cruz so I took the room they offered, for about five minutes, once I seen the horrible disgusting room there was no way I was staying at this hotel. I wish I would have taken pictures to post The room was that horrible !!! Even though it was completely managements fault for not having the correct room I requested and was told on phone early in the month everything was good with my original request. And of course they don’t want to refund your money, in total I was at the property maybe 20 minutes at best, don’t waste your time or money with this...
Read moreI would not recommend this place at all! We had 4 rooms, 11 people total. The best part is the rooms were adjoining. It was obvious the adjoining doors haven’t been opened in a long time, due to the caked on grimy dried up mop water under the doors. I always use Clorox wipes on hard surfaces and the top of the dresser turned my wipe brown. In one of the rooms both beds had dirty/stained sheets. The gentleman at the front desk was apologetic and changed them himself. On day 2, after being at the Boardwalk and Wharf all day we went to the night window and after 5 minutes waiting for someone, we requested 5 towels. After I asked, the gal looked at me and said “Now?!” As if the morning was a better time. I said “we would like to take showers.” She said “Wait” walked off (I’m assuming to get a key) and said “Follow me to the laundry room”. After about 8 minutes she brings the towels. Two of the 5 towels were stained/dirty with makeup/old blood and one had hair on it. The showers/tubs were sorta updated, but the paint was chipping and the back of the door was filthy no drain catch in the sink either. Oh! And if you can’t do stairs as of May 2025 the elevator is out of service due to an electrical fire. So get them steps in! The place could use a good cobweb removal as well. After paying $1620 for 4 rooms for 2 nights, I would at least expect...
