I needed a vacation, and some romance on the Sunday that was Father's day. Hotels are back open, and I wanted my guest to experience a wonderful time. I also really needed a good time, and since any good vacation/date usually involves dinner, but my diet is EXTREMELY limited now. I wanted to surprise my friend, have a great vacation, and have all the details prepared in advance, because explaining my dietary restrictions would have been extremely embarrassing. I booked last minute, but still, the entire staff went ABOVE AND BEYOND to make the night a beautiful one to remember forever. The person I took with me decided to hate me 36 hours later, and it was STILL worth every penny. Seaside Oceanfront inn and Maggie's on the Prom, the attached restaurant, were soooo amazing and wonderful that even a broken heart cannot ruin the enjoyment I experienced here. I booked the pet friendly Oceanview king room, it had its own special name, but there were a lot of fun ones, I don't remember what ours was called. The view was nice, the tree is a little obstructing, but all brown sand is a little bland anyways. The temperature was absolutely perfect, and for people like me who are always cold, there was a fireplace that goes all the way up to 99 degrees!!! When you open the window, you hear the soothing sounds of the powerful ocean. The King size bed was comfortable, the blankets were clean and plush, there was nothing sticky on our chairs, and sure, the outside of the windows were a little dirty, but since this is a rather tall building, intimate and cozy, but still tall, so that didn't bother me. I don't think keeping the outside of an oceanfront window spotless is even possible. I could still see perfectly fine, and the view was lovely. I spent a short time as a housekeeper myself, the linens were fresh, the coffee was lovely, there was a random shoe under the bed, but I didn't even know until we were leaving. With the phenomenal service, I'm not bothered at all by one lost shoe under the bed, I was super happy that there was nothing but clean linens on the bed. The best part? Room service is available as long as the restaurant is open, and even though the kitchen and hotel staff were maddeningly busy, they STILL did some very special things I wanted to surprise my "friend" with, they came in to work early to hand dip chocolate strawberries and chill champagne, and I was even able to privately email the kitchen, I told them so much that I just couldn't eat, and said please try to create something tasty, sorry to be such a diva. If it bothered any of them, it definitely did not show. The kitchen conjured up 3 choices for me!!! I wasn't expecting a choice after all the limitations, and they pulled it off better than I expected, even making sure coconut milk would not make me sick, and I will forever be in awe of those chefs. I don't know how, but the waitress was perfect, I never felt like less than a respected woman, and she was PERFECTLY discreet. The staff of the Oceanfront inn and Maggie's on the Prom made me feel more cared for than the date I brought. I don't believe it was on the menu, but someone in there made the most delicious coconut jasmine rice I've ever had, I wasn't even aware anyone could make rice that delicious. They even managed a mushroom gravy because I said I love sauces, but didn't really expect it, everything I knew that could make a sauce had something in it I couldn't have. But somehow, they pulled it off. Seaside has a couple really wonderful places to stay, but I wanted this vacation to be romantic, and Seaside Oceanfront Inn is the best not completely ridiculously overpriced option. It wasn't the cheapest, but I wanted perfection, and they were BETTER THAN PERFECT!!! I'll definitely be back, but this time I'm going alone!!! ❤️ If I could give 20 stars of approval, I most definitely would. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Seaside Oceanfront Inn for any couple who wants a lovely, high class, extremely romantic getaway. One final note...I did book the pet friendly room, but there were no funny smells or...
Read moreI wish I had read the reviews before coming here because there isn't a chance I would have stayed here. The hotel looked promising as you entered the lobby but that is just a facade. We entered the room and to say this place needs an update is the understatement of the year. The carpets were absolutely DISGUSTING. The carpets had a dampness to it to the point my daughter and I had to wear socks to touch the floors. The bathrooms were definitely not well maintained- how difficult is it to add grout to a shower/tub? I was shocked to see how poorly maintained this property is, especially at almost $300/night!! The towels were splattered with bleach...again, a minor thing that can be resolved with minimal cost. Now speaking of cost- you would think that at $300/night you would get good service. Think again. They told me you had to request service in order for anything to be cleaned in the room. So I learned the hard way and made sure I put the sign out for service the night prior. The next morning I went to the front desk and kindly reminded that we would like full service (it was our 3rd day there and the only thing they had done was given us more bleach splattered towels at that point. Given the fact that this is a HOTEL, not an AIRBNB, it is expected that a hotel clean rooms/bathrooms. I know going into an Airbnb that there is no cleaning service which is why it is typically cheaper than a hotel...but this is supposed to be a hotel so service is expected). She confirmed that my request would be granted and jotted down notes to make sure the cleaning service came to our room for a full clean not just a towel swap. We left for a few hours and come to the room- bed still unmade (there was NOTHING on our bed to prevent this service from being done), floors hadn't been vacuumed (nothing impeding from that service)...all they did was another towel swamp. Again, this is after being there for THREE days. I found the someone from the cleaning service and asked if there was a reason why it hadn't been cleaned and they said they had done it. I reminded them that the bed was unmade, not vacuumed - they just did a towel swap. I expect a little more from a hotel that is that pricey...not just a towel swamp..literally that's ALL they do to clean rooms. She took a picture of our key and told me they would take care of it so we left for a few hours. Come back...again, NOTHING done. At that point I was beyond frustrated. I had been extremely cordial and did exactly as the manager had said- put the sign out- but on top of that I kindly asked for the service in the morning, then asked again when it hadn't been done. I went to the front desk to speak to the front desk who happens to be the manager and all I said was "is there a reason why our room still hasn't been cleaned when I took all the steps you told me to take in order to get my room cleaned?" She immediately accused me of lying saying that it had been to which I responded with "I have a video..I can show you" which she responded extremely aggressively saying the way I asked for my room to be cleaned was rude and that she could check me out. Excuse me? I was cordial from the beginning and when I am asking for the simplest service you jump to checking me out. This manager should NOT be working in the customer service industry...after reading other reviews there have been countless examples of her behavior. They finally did come to the room and changed the sheets and vacuumed while we were in the room (I even offered to help make the bed as I didn't mind..I just wanted a little clean up. I would have vacuumed myself!). Reminder- this is a hotel, not an airbnb. If you don't want to provide the simplest services that hotels offer then you need to call yourself an Airbnb. To add insult to injury, they had the audacity to have an envelope asking for tips for cleaning the room during our visit....
Read moreI booked two nights at this place (back in January -- I originally posted this then, but the hotel must have had it removed, which begs the question why?).
Despite them not emailing or texting to confirm the reservation beforehand like they said they would, I actually liked the inn at first. The location was good, the room was nice and quiet, and the lady at the front desk seemed friendly. I did find it a bit odd the office is closed from 9 PM to 8 AM, but...not a huge deal.
Then, at about 10:30 PM on the first night, I was lying down on the bed reading a Kindle, and noticed a stupid bug crawling toward me in the bed. I instinctively flung it away in disgust. It landed on the nighttable and crawled around on there. I then desperately tried to smush it, but it fell on the floor and disappeared from sight.
Initially, I didn't think it was a bedbug; having never seen one, I thought bedbugs were smaller. But I looked up bedbugs online, just to assure myself it wasn't one of those. Much to my horror, the pictures I found looked VERY VERY similar to the orange-brown insect I saw that just happened to be crawling around during the evening hours IN A BED at a hotel.
Because the office was closed at that time, I couldn't inform the front desk right away. However, at promptly 8 AM the next morning, I did inform the woman who checked us in the previous afternoon -- I thought her name was Lindy (based on other reviews, it's apparently Wendy). I told her I liked the room and appreciated how quiet it was, but had noticed what looked an awful lot like a bedbug the night before.
Wendy's "friendly" demeanor noticeably changed. Rather than offering to switch rooms like any other hotel or motel would have done, Wendy firmly told me "We don't have bedbugs". She said she could call an exterminator, but if they didn't find bedbugs I'd have to cover the cost.
I certainly didn't want to do that, and just told her I'd let her know if I saw another bug. Then I did some thinking -- and about 5 minutes later, I went back to the front desk and asked Wendy if they had any ocean-view or partial ocean-view rooms available and offered to pay the difference in cost. Wendy said she would check availability and call me back.
About 15-20 minutes after that, Wendy indeed called. But not to offer a room.
instead, Wendy said she spoke to the property owner -- and they were going to refund one night (which I hadn't asked for) but she didn't "feel comfortable" with us staying the second night because I'd made the "accusation" about the bug. She said we could have brought it in -- and that they'd be calling an exterminator, and again strongly hinted I would be responsible for any extermination fees (without telling me what those fees would be) and that it's "up to the owner" whether I'm charged or not.
I pointed out that I was trying to help Wendy by informing her of the insect, and she said "No". I can only interpret this response as Wendy didn't want to be informed of something that looked suspiciously like a bedbug in the hotel room.
So we left -- and went to the Best Western (which is great, costs less, and where I wanted to stay in the first place. The only reason I didn't book it was Expedia implied it wasn't available for two nights). On our way out, when the person I was traveling with silently returned the keys, Wendy rather unnecessarily told him to "lose the hostility".
TL:DR -- Informed hotel of a possible bedbug (it was definitely SOME kind of bug) and basically got "punished" for doing this. Hotel was NOT receptive, made us leave before the second night, accused us of bringing the bug in, strongly hinted I'll be responsible for the cost of any extermination, and told my travel companion to "lose the hostility" when he silently...
