We took a trip to seaside on June 4th or 5th, and stayed 2 or 3 nights at this hotel, I cant exactly remember. I was having a surgery the 8th & wanted to have a nice weekend with my family before hand. & also, finals week for school was the next week after, so we all needed some time to clear our brains and just relax. Nice clean rooms. Staff was very friendly, and helpful!! Great location, walking distance to the ocean. I especially liked the area out back with the firepit, and the playground. Only bad thing I have to say is on our first night we got NO sleep! Possibly 1 hour, maybe even 2, around 8am! A room down the hall from ours, on the third floor, was partying ALL NIGHT/early morning long!!! I had loud noise coming from my window on one end of my room, and from the door on the opposite end of my room. So I was surrounded by their obnoxiously, irritating, very loud noise! To top it off, their large dog was barking all night also..I mentioned it to the front desk the next morning, and she instantly knew exactly who I was talking about. Apparently, they had been terrible guests, causing all sorts of problems. I understand it's not the hotels fault, but we should have definitely been offered an extra night stay, had our room comped, or at least partially refunded. Those guests should have been asked to leave after the first few incidents. They really made out first night, the beginning of our vacation, unbearable. I remember thinking to myself while I was wide awake at 4am, "I didnt know that this was 'that' kind of hotel, or I definitely wouldn't have stayed here". Normally "those" kind of hotels are a lot cheaper. I wasn't happy about spending 200 dollars a night, just to get zero sleep, and be angry/upset all night. Not to mention all of us being tired, and cranky the following day. I would have had a better night sleep in my car, and saved a chunk of money. Shame on those guests. They obviously weren't raised with any manners, or respect & consideration for others. Also, when we got there around 8 or 9 PM, we went out back to sit by the fire, and the same guests were on their balcony smoking a blunt. Which I really did not appreciate, at all! Especially, since my children were outside- able to see it, and smell it. That ended our time outside relaxing & enjoying the fire. I think they need to have a better protocol, or a zero tolerance policy for people who behave like that. Also, I found it odd that when you stay over, there is no maid or turn down service. I've never heard of that. I've stayed in a room ¼ of the price that offered this type of accommodation. Any hotel I've ever stayed at, or heard of offers that.Maybe it has something to do with the covid, I'm not sure. I dont understand the reasoning behind it. I wish I could give 2 different ratings. The first night would have been no stars, but the second night would have been 4½ stars. Again, it's not the staff or hotel that ruined our first night. I really did like the staff, and enjoyed this hotel. I just think we should have been compensated for the terrible night we endured. We will be taking another trip soon, maybe even tomorrow. I'm not sure if I'll try staying here again or not. If not for the first night, and a couple other very small issues, this may have been my new favorite place to...
Read moreThe hotel room I booked through Expedia was at the River Inn, in Seaside Oregon. I have never stayed at this hotel before and I was being charged well over $200.00 dollars a night for the room (I booked a two night stay with no special items purchased and it cost me approximately $518.00 dollars) so I expected it to be a really nice place.
When my wife and I arrived the staff looked at me like I was an alien when I declined their request to give them my email address. The issue was finally settled when my wife chimed in and gave them her's. I tried to explain I just didn't want to give that information up because I am tired of getting junk emails from companies and of all the online ads. They were insistent and didn't seem to want to take no for an answer-hence my wife chiming in and finally just giving an email address she uses for "junk mail."
The hotel was a bit run down. It was in need of paint in multiple spots, it "smelled" old, and the elevator was very slow. The carpets in the hallways and rooms looked like they were from the 80's. There were multiple places in our room in need of drywall repair and paint and in the bathroom at one end of the shower curtain rack the wall was cracked open. Also, Stuck to the headboard of our bed there was a band aid...just absolutely disgusting. It grossed us out for the rest of the trip. The room we booked was for a single king sized bed. The mattress we got was a king size mattress but the edges were hanging off what was definitely not a king size frame. This was just another sign that we were in the hands of a slum lord and not a hotel owner who genuinely cared about their guest's experience. The place was just gross, run down and in need of repair and a remodel.
I don't want to be too harsh on this place but it really made me upset when I look back on it and realize that I was spending about $232.00 dollars a night (before taxes!). My wife and I hadn't been out of state, overnight without kids for an anniversary in years and this trip was supposed to be me trying to redeem myself from years of less than stellar anniversary planning. I took a chance (this place got good reviews online) and got burned.
The best way I can describe this place, and a description my wife reiterated after the trip, is "run down." I will never stay here again and frankly, we got ripped off. I don't know about everyone in this world but $500.00 dollars (that is just what the hotel stay cost me) is a lot of money to my wife and I. I was expecting a lot better of a hotel for that kind of money. My wife and I were sorely disappointed. This place is way overpriced and reminded me of something that would be run by some type of "slum lord" who doesn't care about upkeep but just wants to charge lots of money for customers to stay in a mediocre, run down, outdated hotel. They need to paint...replace the carpet...clean the band aids off the headboard...repair the walls in the bathrooms, lower their exorbitant room fees...then maybe we'll talk about me writing a...
Read moreMy husband and I stayed here with our 2 small pups and I can not say enough positive things about the Inn, the Staff and our stay. We started out our vacation at Gearheart by the Sea and after a terrible experience in the condo we rented (T445 - if booking this condo, please read my review) - - and Miss Jocelyn at the River Inn saved our vacation - literally! Our best friends were getting married on the Beach at Gearheart, it was our 25th Wedding Anniversary and we were traveling with 2 small dogs during peak season! Everyone was booked and/or didn't accept 2 dogs. Jocelyn was able to squeeze us in for the rest of our stay at the coast and went above and beyond to text with us to get us in earlier - as we did have to stay one night at Gearheart but had to check out at 11a and had no where to go! Upon arrival we found the parking convenient and the lot sparkling with fresh pots of flowers and bikes outside to rent. The lobby was bright and cheery and clean and they offered carts to haul our stuff up to the room. Upon entering our room - I almost wept - it was SO clean - I mean CLEAN and fresh and bright and modern! The pups did not smell any other pups,no stains on the carpet, fresh white fluffy bedding and even doing the lysol wipe check on high touch surfaces - - it came back white! Lets just say our housekeepers got their tip and then some! The view of the courtyard from the clean balconies with their adorable fire pits and view of the river with people paddling on swan boats was the greatest place to unwind after our devastating experience down the way. They also had a tiny lil' dog area for the pups to do their thing and it was so clean with waste bags, garbage and even a hose if needed to rinse away residue. I was so surprise how with it being so dog friendly - we never heard the other guest dogs! And we saw many! We did find the guests next door to be quite loud, but only the 1st night and they were young and were having a great time into the early hours and well, we survived - we were young once too. I'll just never be able to express how Jocelyn and the River Inn made our 1st stay at the coast...
