My wife and stayed here while in town to see a show. Before booking, I checked the reviews and noticed they were mixed, with some stating that their room smelled like smoke. After booking, I called ahead to request a room that did not smell. When we arrived, the person working the desk asked if we wanted to see the room first. I thought this was a good sign. Unfortunately, when we went to the room, it smelled very musty and a little like smelly feet. We returned to the front and the woman gave us a key to another room. While doing so, she wrote our room number on a notepad and I noticed that the entry above also stated that another room had been rejected by another person because it, too, smelled bad. When we opened the door to the second room, the smell of smoke was overwhelming. So, we went back to the front and received a key for a different room. That key would not open the door. The woman at the front gave us a look like, "come on, you're being a pain in the butt" and made a comment to that effect. That was a bit shocking. I would have expected her to be apologetic that we had to continue searching for an acceptable room. She sent us off to a 4th room. Again, this one smelled like smoke, but not as bad as the others. We decided we would just suck it up and take the room. I noticed there were ashtrays on each side of the bed, which didn't make sense since she told us it was a nonsmoking room. When we went to the front desk to tell her we were just going to take the room even though it, too, smelled like smoke, I brought an ashtray with me. Again she stated it was a nonsmoking room. She then gave us a bottle of "odor neutralizer" to take back to spray in the room (see photo). The end result was an orange scented smoke smell. When we got home, we had to wash all of our clothes to get rid of the smell.
Here are some other issues we encountered. The tub drain wouldn't close. We specifically chose a room with a large jacuzzi tub so this was a big bummer. Fortunately, I was able to adjust the set screw with a multitool I had in the car.
There was paint peeling and water stains above the tub and in the corridor just outside our room. I don't really consider either of these a big deal but thought I would note it.
The pool light was dangling by the electrical cord at the bottom of the pool. Is this safe?!
When we arrived for breakfast 20 minutes before it was supposed to end, it was out of sausage, pancake batter, peanut butter and yogurt. There were no spoons and no tongs for getting bread. None of these items were restocked. I heard the guy at the desk, who turned out to be the manager, state that "it was a 1 man show and he was it". Obviously we didn't ask if any items would be restocked, and they never were.
When we checked out, I informed the man (again this was the manager) about our difficulties finding a room. He then informed us that the reason our room smelled like smoke is because we WERE given a smoking room. He apologized for the issues we experienced, but didn't offer any type of compensation.
Not all was bad. It looked like the rooms had all been recently renovated. They were very spacious an offered a lot of amenities for the price (more like a small suite). Aside from the woman getting testy when we were trying to find a room, everyone was pleasant. Whoever is in charge of the grounds did a nice job with landscaping. There were a lot of flowers in bloom in the front.
Ultimately, the place has the potential to be a great value, particularly if you are a smoker :). For us on this particular trip, however, it was a...
Read moreI'm actually disappointed! I have stayed at this Location on several occasions over the past 10 yrs as I have family in the area. We checked in sometime around maybe 2 am after driving 9 hrs to Simpsonville. The lady at the desk was pleasant and checked us in without any hassle. We were given room 150. When we first walked into the room it had a weird stale smell, the front door wouldn't shut properly without having to kinda slam it shut. The light on the inside by the door was flickering. I go to take a shower and realize there aren't enough towels for the 4 of us. As I get ready to call the front desk to request more towels I see a cockaroach crawling across the wall. So as I start to take a picture, it crawls to a crack between the wall and the carpet and then a spider pops up! Eww! I did take photos! I then call the front desk, explain that there is a roach crawling in the room and requested to change rooms. Which she agreed and asked us to come back to the office for a new room key. She met us outside when we arrived at the office and handed us the new room keys and she explained that she already double checked the new room for us (room 115) and provided the extra towels. This room was in much better condition minus the smoke detector not being connected. Around 9 am, we go over for breakfast and unfortunately there really wasn't much offered besides the waffle maker and a couple of donuts and muffins. No milk for cereal and no eggs or meat. Maybe due to COVID, but I don't know. Later, in the day I wanted to take the kids to swim, so on our way to the pool I stopped by the front desk to request 4 more towels so we could have towels for swimming. There had been a shift change, so there was a different lady at the desk. I request the towels and she asks with an attitude which room am I staying in. I say room 115. She then asks why I need more towels if we were already provided towels. So I explain there are 4 of us and we needed 4 towels for bathing and 4 towels for swimming. She then responds still with an attitude "well I'll give you more towels but make sure you leave them in the room when you leave otherwise we will charge you for taking the towels". Now I don't know what type of guests this hotel typically has but I for one do not steal towels nor do I appreciate the attitude nor the insinuating that I would just because I didn't want to use the same towel to bath and swim.. the rest of the stay was fine. Upon check out the next morning, again a different person working the front desk. She was wrapped up in some conversation with a coworker about their work scheduling. Which I had to listen to while wating for my receipt. As someone who works in customer service, it's very impolite to talk to coworkers while serving guests. Overall, I found the cleanliness of this hotel very lacking! The staff with the exception of the first lady were rude and unprofessional. I don't know if this hotel is still owned by the same owner as before but the quality of this hotel has gone down significantly! So again I state, I'm just disappointed. Unfortunately, I don't think I will choose to stay here again in the...
Read moreWhy is there still no ZERO star choice? To be worthy of one star would mean that at least something, somewhere in this crap stand measures up and I assure you-- IT DOES NOT.
Let's first address the lack of privacy. When I pay (or in this case a Corporate account purchases many rooms in ADVANCE, UP FRONT, for business purposes), privacy is paramount. If I set the AC in the room to be comfortable to my liking once returning from a long (12-15 hour) workday OUTSIDE in the heat, I expect the AC to be exactly as I left it. UNTOUCHED. This was not the case. Additionally, I did in no way request room service, so no one should have entered the room that was paid for in full. There is a breach of trust and possibly a violation of contract here.
Moving on, let's address basic cleanliness. I'm not going to touch on ethnicity or race because that is a slippery slope. Do minority immigrants own and operate this "establishment"? See for yourself. Let's all agree, however, that when we're in Rome and OWN a business in Rome, it's best that we conduct business in accordance with the standards of those that are paying the bill. Example(s):
1.) Crusty, molded soap stuck up against the wall for what appears to be since the late 90's. Who is cleaning these showers?
2.) Bloody sheets. Once the blood was observed, my colleague removed the sheets and placed them into the floor. Upon returning to his room, he discovered that the blood stained sheets were PLACED BACK ON THE MATTRESS. Again, I don't know where in the World this would be acceptable.
3.) Bathroom vent is a direct view to another room. You can see the lights shining through. As a man, I am concerned for any woman who believes she has privacy within the confines of her rented bathroom space. YOU DO NOT. This is against the Law but also against everything that is decent and acceptable in our society.
The "hot breakfast" offered is anything but. The Health Department will be getting a call and follow-up email; however, the Owner of the "establishment" was less than concerned that the food was dangerously sub-par, in keeping with the overall theme of this terrible excuse for a motel. (Motel is putting it very, very generously. I've been in better bus station bathrooms.)
To conclude this horrible review that really had it coming: stay here at your own risk and with fair warning. If you work for a living, or maybe even if you are just passing through, AVOID this place. You deserve better. This is America. You have choices and I doubt you want to waste time and money on this...
