Update 9/13/2024: I am a frequent customer at this Ramada, due to my mother being a long term resident at the care home across the street. I have had multiple substandard experiences at this Ramada (read my previous review below this update), but due to close proximity to the care home, the discounted rate for visitors to said care home, and me being a Wyndham Rewards member of high status, I keep coming back. But after this last stay, I will not return. I checked in online the previous day, so the hotel was aware of my arrival time and preference for an interior room. When I arrived at the expected time, I was told that there was only one room available, an exterior room. Exterior rooms frequently reek of cigarette smoke, and this room was especially smelly. When I requested a different room, the only room available was a wheelchair accessible room with no desk (I need to work while traveling) and a single bed (luckily I was alone on this trip). The room also had spoiled food in the fridge, no water pressure in the sink, and no hot water in the shower. And in coming days I noticed that the hotel was empty. There must have been 100 rooms they could have offered me. When I asked about this, the manager stated that although the rooms were vacant, they had not been cleaned due to the previous football weekend. So apparently they only cleaned one room just for me, and it was a cigarette smelly exterior room. When I complained about the water pressure and lack of hot water, maintenance was sent to address the problem but nothing changed. I'm through with this hotel and will take my 4 stays per year, 4-10 days per stay, to another hotel.
Previous review: Over the past 10 years I've stayed at this Ramada dozens of times, as my mother lives across the street. This time it was a six night stay. Had a problem with housekeeping this time. One morning, I asked at reception if they could do something to get rid of the stale cigarette smell in my room. Came back 7 hours later to find my room door open! Luckily my laptop and other belongings were all still there, but what an odd way to remove an odor, to just open the door and leave it open. And on the day of check out, I left at 8 and came back at 10:30 to check out. Left do not disturb tag on the door. They had come in my room and stripped the bed, dumped the trash (including a few of my items which were NOT trash), and piled my belongings all together. Why they would do this, with check out not until 11:00, I can not guess. Now, for my usual review data: Some things do not change - good value rooms, indoor and outdoor pools, adequate free breakfast, plenty of parking, good restaurant and bar attached to the hotel (although since covid began, the menu has been stripped down considerably). Some things have improved - some room renovations have been done, including upgraded flooring and comfy beds. Some things need improvement - TVs are approaching antique status (no digital signal, can't connect a usb drive to watch movies), few power points for charging electronics, heater/ac unit is very loud, bathrooms could use a make-over. Overall a fine stay, good option for an...
Read moreBreakfast was out of 2 food items 30 min before it ends serving and breakfast hours are to short ending at 9:30 and after speaking with front reception and asking for more of what was out we were told " no problem we will take care of it" ultimately all that happened was a person in security style fashion came 20 min later at breakfast end time of 9:30 and started collecting all the items.. we didn't even bother with the situation and took that as their "we will take care of it response"..
Rooms and building were too small and outdated Examples are broken rusted railing brackets and flooring broken cement and material peeling off outside our walkway section posing a trip hazard.. Shower heads were old and felt apart as you try to adjust and use the features of different water flow options and placed too low for average size person's and without disrespect to anyone I felt like It was better suited for small people and I'm average of 5'9 the fridge was the biggest thing in the room wich was a surprise.. window curtains did not oase fully around the edges and from walking around is how you can see inside most of the rooms basically you have to try with an effort to make them close well for privacy like using a bag to prop them closed or over extend them past the edge hooks.
Building layout was awkward and difficult to navigate. The building had drafts coming in especially around our outside room door and the pool area. Quite frankly the nicest modern thing there was the front entrance, lobby and pool
Pool hot tub was closed entire weekend and pool closed the second night because too many kids in the pool wich was a disappointment because the pool was our main reason to stay there.. pool water splash intruded past the entrance gate and onto the hallway walkway carpet in front of other guest rooms and it's happened before because you can see the previous water damage stains as you walk on a squishy wet hallway carpet.
Room Ac/heat appliance was noisy waking me up when it kicked on to the point I had to set the fan option to run full time so it was steady on for a less noisy option but yet still was loud.
Bed was noisy, you can hear the springs inside which means beds are outdated, you can feel the indentations from all it's days
Room service never serviced our room and had to ask for more trash bags and towels wich was taken care of promptly but it was just the inconvenience.
I will definitely be looking somewhere else to saty before I choose this location again
Not related to the Ramada but got feedback from other guest that the the food was not great at the inhouse restaurant located within...
Read moreWorst hotel in town. If you look at my ratings, very seldom am I this harsh. And as you can see from my previous revews, I travel a lot so have pretty good comparison context. This low rating is warranted. I got stuck here for the second time over a football weekend and would now rather sleep in car. The first time the floor was soaking wet and the place smelled like mildew. I did not want to complain because I thought it was a one off instance. The second weekend the price gouging was in effect. The room was a disgrace. Ceiling crumbling, water stains, paint falling off of walls, water running and just plain filthy. The entire place smells musty and old. It looks like they have put no money into this place since the 1980s. I could even live with that and the fact that there is no maintenence investment in the place, but then their service was also abyssmal. They told us the in house restaurant "Harrigan's" was open until 10pm. I even called to confirm. Went down at 9pm to eat and they were "too busy" to serve until 10pm? When and complsined to hotel desk and they inquired for me. Then the waitress on staff last night (Oct 2) said she doesn't care what time they are supposed to stay open until but they worked "too hard" and closed at 9pm because they "felt like it." Yes these are quotes. The hotel desk girl said the restaurant management was separate, but again I told her that my family relied on the hotels representation that the restaurant was open until 10pm. She said sorry and there was nothing she could do. Anyway the kids had to get a pizza in town and eat in the car. Completely unprofessional staff and Completely incompetent. I never rate so low but this was very frustrating. I know it is State College but to hear restaurant workers tell me they were too tired to work?!?! None of these people would cut in in any city. The desk staff were nice but you cannot set times and just change them. The hotel manager should have a very strong conversation with the kitchen folks and take a class on professionalism in the industry. The indoor pool was nice but of course the hot tub was out of order. Also just observed the cleaning staff girl drunk and stoned while leaving a moment ago. Stay away at all costs. Place is old and dirty and...
