This is a review I have been looking forward to leaving for quite some time. I wanted to make sure that I went on multiple occasions so that my opinion would be fairly judged when being taken into consideration.
What a great decision.
Not only was I completely satisfied after each visit, but I tried several different dishes and was pleasantly surprised by each one. Everything I tried was loaded with flavor, keeping my taste buds full of excitement for each bite. Being a southern California native, I have been on the hunt for authentic Mexican cuisine for quite some time and I have FINALLY found it at Plaza Mexican Bar and Grill! The inside is decorated so nicely and creatively, the booths are large and accommodate people of all sizes and there's optional table seating with individual chairs as well. The staff is friendly and more than happy to describe and explain any dish in question for those who are unfamiliar with anything. The prices are more than fair for the generous portions of food and the menu selection is quite large so there is plenty to choose from. The tableside fresh guacamole is HIGHLY recommended for all you avacado lovers and pairs nicely with a good old fashioned margarita.
There is a bar toward the back of the building separate from the main eating area, complete with a flat screen TV for any sports lover. It's the perfect place for any occasion whether it's a leisurely afternoon lunch with friends, a business meeting with colleagues or an evening date with that special someone. The music is loud enough to hear but low enough to speak over so you're not yelling across the table. The bathroom facilities (I can only speak for the ladies) is kept very clean and is quite large with multiple stalls so there's no lines to wait in. All in all it's a fantastic place to go. So whether you're a local or an out of towner in the mood for some delicious, homemade, true authentic Mexican food, make sure to add Plaza Mexican Bar and Grill to your list of places to...
Read moreHoly cow.. this place is amazing! I'm so impressed! We had spent most of the day at Penns Caverns, and our drive back to the Raystown Lake area took us through State College. I've been past the restaurant dozens of times when in town and always wanted to stop, so today was the day.
The first wow factor was the salsa, which was fresh, zesty, balanced, and a myriad of other adjectives. I could have it as all three courses and then save room for it for dessert. It's that damn good. A great salsa is crucial, and they nailed it.
The Beer-rita and Tropical Margarita were massive and refreshing. We landed on these after reading through the extensive drink menu that had something for any taste; from margaritas to shots to mules and more.
It was honestly hard to pick an entree because the menu was so unique. A variety ranging from traditional fare to more epicurean takes. Tacos were the choice, Baja Fish and the Mayan Tacos.
The Baja fish tacos were simple yet big on flavor. Perfectly battered fried fish, crispy cabbage, and a simple aioli made for a comforting plate of tacos.
The Mayan Tacos had a combination of grilled shrimp, grilled octopus, and ground chorizo. These three little white corn tortilla wrapped masterpieces were topped with shredded cabbage as well for a satisfying crunch. The shrimp and octopus were out of control; perfectly seasoned, and masterfully grilled. These tacos will live forever in my dreams.
Can't wait to come back and try something else, maybe the...
Read moreI am originally from the Southwest where there is an abundance of Mexican Restaurants. We had been living in the Pacific Northwest for the past 12-years and moved to Central PA over a year ago. I have always wanted to try this place out, and when I found out that they had vegetarian options, I knew I had to finally try it out! Let me first say, I was NOT disappointed! I had the chimichangas with cheese and vegan meat. They were absolutely delicious. The rice and beans were also some of the tastiest I've had in a while! We decided to splurge and have the table-side guacamole. Totally worth it! The server came over with her little cart, peeled the avocado and added all the ingredients and gave it a mashing! It was amazing! The drinks were also very good and the service was excellent. Like other have mentioned, it does seem to get a little loud. But for me, it was just like being back at home with my loud-mouthed relatives enjoying good food, good company and great conversation! We even took home carnitas for my Mother-in-Law and she absolutely loved it! We will most definitely be coming back here again! So happy that we...
