I stayed one night at the Wingate in Sulphur, Louisiana.
This hotel brand is one of Wyndham's top tier, so you would expect it to be top notch, especially considering the price and that it is directly next to four or five other motels and hotels, one being Wyndham's much lower priced Day's Inn.
My first impression was that it reminded me a little of a Holiday Inn express with less features. The counter person was helpful and nice. They have a couple of computers available that guests can access directly across from the check in area.
They have a small but nicely equipped fitness room.
They have a pool. I did not visit the pool, only saw it through the door.
The price is comparable to staying at a Holiday Inn Express.
Entering the room I saw the same amenities that most motels and hotels have; a TV, King Sized Bed, some drawers for clothing, a mini refrigerator that has a separate freezer section, sink, private shower and toilet.
It also had a small sized table with a mini couch to work at, a sofa chair, microwave and alarm clock that was set 1 hour ahead of local time.
I'm not a coffee or tea drinker, which is a good thing, because the room did not have a coffee maker, coffee or tea. This is the first of all the different bran motels and hotels I have stayed at that didn't have one. Even the non-brand tiny motel I stayed in had one and a single coffee bag.
THE GOOD:
The room smelled clean and theair was fresh. No smell of weed or smoke. That's a good thing if you're a non-smoker.
The air conditioner worked brilliantly, the air did not point directly onto the bed but into the room keeping it cool, the quality of air coming from it was fresh.
The refrigerator had a separate freezer which worked great.
Very plain motel style decor, its not as glamourous looking as some of the motels and hotels I have stayed at.
The night was quiet and peaceful.
It's located directly next to a Day's Inn, Hilton and several others where I could of stayed.
The free internet was fast enough to stream a movie to my laptop from my cell phone hotspot connected to it. That's good since the tv didn't work.
Between 6AM and 9AM they have breakfast. I went down at 7:45AM. There was a small tray of scrambled eggs, a small tray of sausages with only one sausage in it. They were all cold so I had to microwave them in my room. Cereals, apples, peanut butter packets, white bread, a juice dispenser that didn't have real juice. Seemed pretty skimpy, but at least its a little better then a continental breakfast.
THE BAD:
The bathroom faucet is set to far back from the sink and when you wash your hands or interfere with the waterflow, it goes all over the counter top.
No in room coffee maker, coffee or tea.
The alarm clock was set one hour ahead of local time.
I couldn't get the tv to work. I tried everything possible and went to the check-in desk to ask about it. The check-in person recommended unplugging the tv and plugging it back in, said this was a common problem at this location, and handed me a completely different looking remote than the one in the room. Neither worked.
The tile on the bathroom floor was slippery, I had to put a towel down after a shower because the floor got damp.
This location uses large bottles of shampoo, conditioner and body wash permanently mounted. Unfortunately, the very large bottle of body wash was empty. This tells me that the cleaning people don't care about the work they perform.
The light fixture on the left side of the bed didn't work. I let the check-in person know about the TV and light as soon as i inspected the room because they were charging a $175 security deposit for any damages.
All of the luggage carts were randomly sitting in halls located across the hotel. People just left them in the hallway after using them.
Final Thoughts:
Bring your own coffeemaker, coffee or tea.
Bring your own shampoo, conditioner and bodywash just in case.
Considering the price it costs to stay at this hotel and the options immediately next to it, this was a...
Read moreIt states online that they are dog friendly. I also called them to see how much it would be for one guest and a dog and they told me 113.60 a night where it is 92.00 for just the guest. With this information my significant other books a room for himself one night prior to me and our dog arriving. The room is dirty, to say the least, with stains all over the carpet, throw up marks left on the bedskirt and the wall, bathroom unkempt, receipts from previous occupants on the floor, and worst of all the A/C unit was leaking to where it was seeping into the carpet resulting in mold. He ended up staying the night and leaving the next day for work due to late arrival, I arrived mid morning with our dog and told the front desk which room my s.o. was staying in and that we would like a king size possibly on the first floor since we have our dog if available, which mostly was due to the statements that my s.o. informed me of prior. They informed that they are NOT pet friendly, never have been and that NONE of the Wingate hotels are (which is not true) and that the person I talked to the night before had their facts wrong. Needless to say, we ended up going to the forever faithful La Quinta. On the positive side, my s.o. said the coffee and breakfeat was delicious and the overnight front desk receptionist was very nice. ( PET OWNERS BEWARE) I rarely leave reviews unless it was either mind blowing or horrid. I shall not say which makes me write this, you can...
Read moreWonderful, hardworking staff and clean, nice, very comfortable rooms!! My husband works construction and we have a 4 year old son. We’ve been staying here since about may, and it has been quite pleasant. It always smells very good as soon as you walk into the lobby. My son enjoys the pool. And there is also a small room with gym equipment that’s very nice. The breakfast is great with many options. WiFi is really good and they have just added tablets to the rooms that allow guests to view hotel info, chat with the front desk, make reservations and even watch Netflix. Eric at the front desk is always on top of things and very helpful. Mrs ruthie at the front desk has also been very, very helpful, and polite. The maid service is usually very wonderful. I see negative comments sometimes but we have to remind ourselves that no one is perfect every single day, even though the employees at this hotel try very hard and go out of their way for everyone to have the best stay possible. Being here so long, I must say that the overall consistency of making sure we are comfortable and taken care of every day, is really outstanding and very important to us. We will stay at this hotel every time we are in sulphur and need a room. I highly recommend...
