When writing a review, it's good to come to the table with the appropriate expectations. I wouldn't ding the rental car company for not renting me a Mercedes at Hyundai prices. Likewise, it's unreasonable to expect to get Marriott-level service at $100 a night.
I've stayed at this hotel three times; in each case, the Avatar or Marriott near here were either sold out or had rooms at 3x the cost of the Ramada.
I have a short list of complaints. Here they are: -- No weather stripping on the doors. This allows you to clearly hear everything going on in the parking lot. It also results in condensation inside your room in the morning if you don't run the heater at night. -- The shower head is at about 5 feet. -- The bathroom door on my latest stay actually rubs against the toilet when closing. Needless to say, it's cramped. -- Internet is totally and needlessly bad. Given that they're a stone's throw away from the people that built the gear they're using, it's inexcusable. And should management read this, your Internet has two problems -- AP's are located in rooms, such that anybody can unplug the cable, and anyone else who has the misfortune of associating to that AP can't get connected. Second problem -- you're running 40 MHz bands on your 2.4GHz frequencies, which is triggering a massive noisy neighbor problem. On my most recent stay, I could see 4 AP's, all of which were overlapping on the center channels (5-7), and it was essentially broken the whole time I was there.
Breakfast is 'meh' at best.
There are a few things within walking distance. There's a shopping center on the way to Mission College with quite a few places to eat (SmokeEaters). It's about a 10-minute walk. I didn't feel unsafe walking in this neighborhood.
If you've got a reason to be at the EMC / McAfee / Intel / Mission College site, this is a decent place to stay if the Internet's working, especially if you want to save your company...
Read moreAttempted to check in at 3:10pm since check in was 3pm. The service clerk stated there was no room availble for my party but that she was checking to see what we had availble. She asked for my credit card despite not having a room ready to check me in. Once she found a room, she said that she found one that was a slight upgrade from what I had reserved. Upon entering it appeard to not be an upgrade at all but what i had reserved to begin with which was a single king bed. However, the second room was a bust. While it had two beds as expected, they were not queen beds as advertised, but FULL sized beds. The resteoom in yhe king room had water spitting out of the back of the shower head and looked as though someone had been swinging from the towel rack and in to the shower head like it was a jungle gym. The shower curtain rod was also slightly damaged causing the curtain to slide open since it was slanting downwards. The carpets were noticeably dingy. Luckily i always wear sandals or slippers inside hotel rooms. The breakfast was your general hot breakfast. Since i am used to hotel breafasts i can say it did not disappoint, just note its a hotel breakfast not a 3 star Michelin restaurant breakfast and you too will be please. The grounds were stunning with its courtyard garden and pool amenities. Not sure when the building was built but the exterior gives you a bit of an insight to what a prime hotel would have looked like in the 1960's. The owner has clearly done their best to maintain the facility and it shows. Its ashame that the hotel doesnt have a full bar even though there remanentes of having one at one time. The King bed was the best hotel mattress ive slept on in decades. And i go to hotels and resorts frequently. The full beds in the "queen room" however were uncomfortable according to the rest of my party. Regardless, 9/10 would recommend...
Read moreUpon checking in I asked the front desk to tell me all the amenities that are available since we are still in a panadmeic I figured certain things were open and some not. She had no explanation of anything just ignored that question because later I called and found out the pool and jacuzzi were open and available. Manager was coming there to help her but they weren't really welcoming they were just doing the data entry stuff of getting your ID and credit card. In the hospitality business I feel you have to welcome your guests or atleast talk to them. Nothing I was asking questions not much conversation. They were fixed at the screen. Ok so later I go to the pool the water was not clean the jacuzzi was better but only one jet worked, I called the front desk She said they clean the pool.often. Really then why did it have so many particles? another guy came to the pool.while I was in the jacuzzi I thought they send the pool guy to check it out, it was another guest looking at the water. He spend $150 on the room and he couldn't use the pool. So no good customer service, no pool cleaned. The room was fine the bed, channels, TV, but in the morning I noticed ants in the bath tub. Also they only put one soap, so u have to use one bar soap to shower and then use that to wash your hands. I would suggest have two soaps and a lotion, but hey it is what it is. In the morning when I called someone hung up on me. That didn't help. Anyhow I gave it 3 stars because the bed was comfortable and the bag breakfast helped, coffee in room was not great but better than nothing. I left a tip for the housekeeper not because I was impressed but figured they needed it, I could imagine what else is going on here as I found more things...
