Read moreI have been taking classes since before the pandemic and am still taking classes for my transfer to SJSU. I love Mission College's counselors and teachers. Before I went to the Career Center, I was very positive and highly recommended it to my neighbors and friends, telling them that Mission College is the best community college. However, today I have a very negative review of Mission College's Career Center, and I would give it one star. I went there to ask for help with my Handshake profile and for opportunities for entry-level jobs. One of the ladies there greeted me with a smile when I entered her office. I asked her about my major and explained that I needed help with certain things. She told me to use Handshake and that I should handle things myself. I then asked her if there were any chances for entry-level jobs, even unpaid ones, just so I could gain some experience. She ignored my words and seemed to be in a hurry to leave. Her attitude was very strange, and I felt like I couldn't ask her anything else. She told me that Mission College had contracts with companies that require applicants to be under 29 years old. She looked at me with an angry expression and gave me the impression that I was too old to find a job. I felt as though her attitude was dismissive and unprofessional. I pay thousands of dollars in fees to take classes at Mission College; this is not a free service. Her behavior made me feel like she saw herself as the boss and me as the server. I really hope Mission College considers changing this staff member and hiring someone with patience and a positive attitude...
Read moreI give this 4 stars for the education, but a one star if I could rate the customer service when dealing with admissions and records (I always get the same person with the crummy attitude).
Admissions & Records: There is a person that speaks to students in a condescending manner and just doesn't listen to facts. Then they turn the issues on the student, when the real issues stem with the school. The behavior of a few employees can give the customer ( the students) a bad impression, and want to go elsewhere. This kind of service should be investigated and changed or said persons should be moved somewhere that isnt dealing with the public. Since no one wears name badges ( a sign of not being transparent or accou table for the customer service experience), I can't give names of who to avoid.
As for the education, all of the instructors that I have had encounters with seem to really care about the education of their students. You would think that is a given in the educational system, but it isnt.
As a new returning student, I appreciate the stellar instructors in the Hospitality Management Department. There are many opportunities to get hands on experience if your time and passion allows. And in this department, the more questions you ask, the more information is shared = better education.
If Mission College has a major that fits your needs, I would reccommend Mission College for the personalized attention by instructors and small campus. If you care about your treatment by Admissions & Records,...
