Purpose: Business travel Positive: Staff seem friendly. Grounds seem kept Nice open space when you come into the lobby. This hotel has covered parking available Wi-fi available just about everywhere on the grounds Close to the main strip Elevator areas seem upgraded There is a ethernet cable available for direct hook up instead of relying on wi-fi inside your room.
Negatives: The design and décor is old and would probably be comparable to a Best Western with the only difference are some restaurants inside. My room and the hallway to get there are all outdated with carpets coming up at the seams and bathroom accessories deteriorating, the old tiles on the bathtub/showers, there were paint markings on the ground on the carpet to hard floor transition area, trim around the edges coming up and etc. You have to ask for an iron and ironing board. I always iron my clothes before leaving. I have to ask every time? Every hotel I've ever stayed in has always had an ironing board and iron. I just don't get it. The restaurants are catered to Asian cuisine. The buffet is mediocre. Either way there's really no other options, but "Asian" food. So, if you're a westerner and you're bringing kids who aren't too keen on "Asian food" you'll end up having to drive someplace else. 5-star hotels always have complementary coffee and infused water offered at all hours of the day and night for their guests. Not here. They don't serve coffee till 7 when that lobby restaurant/coffee shop opens up. Most of us who are there on business will probably skip that since we probably normally have our 2nd cup of coffee by 7. It's a long walk to whatever room you've been assigned to. Was there anyone to help me out with my bags when I got there? NOPE. There weren't even luggage rollers available. I'm used to dragging bags. So, it's no biggie, but this is supposed to be a 5-star hotel, no? Not so much. Gym opens late at 8. Most of us who like to work out before work are putting in the sweat by 6. At 8 we're on our first meeting. And, you have to walk outside to get to the gym! The laundry room is also a walk outside in the humid heat. ALL the restaurants in the hotel grounds close way too early at 9pm. So if you're there on business and just want to lounge at the restaurant...nothing. Go find someplace else. Speaking of lounging. There is no lounging in this hotel. There is no where to just chillax at night and watch the ocean while drinking a stiff one at 10 or 11 at night. The lobby area is so spread out with seats it just feels cold and not inviting. Go to bed...or better yet, go someplace else. All their rooms have balconies where you can smoke. Guess what your room is probably going to smell like? It's great they have parking, but the first bunch of parking is unavailable for you. This hotel caters to a certain group. Nothing wrong with that, but if you're a westerner it might not be the most comfortable for you is all. You'll see Americans, but they're mostly military who probably don't care to hang out at this place except in their rooms or at a local bar or something. The only reason they're there is because there wasn't room on base and that's where base lodging put them. I bet the hotel makes a ton of money by charging the maximum per diem rate the US government authorizes.
Conclusion: This is not a 5-star hotel. If anything this is an overpriced 3-star hotel that's charging you accommodations based on the reputation of Hotel Nikko brand that's located outside of Guam.
I'd skip this place for my family and I. I actually checked out 4 days later and booked another hotel nearby. What am I paying for again? Simply put, if you're going to spend the kind of money that Hotel Nikko charging you, go save a little of it and go to the Westin or Hyatt nearby. I mean, Westin and Hyatt aren't exactly shabby places either. Trust me, it'll be...
Read moreI booked through Expedia for this particular review. I have been here before utilizing a day pass and another time staying another night. The day pass service is wonderful, affordable and access to a beach that is not terribly crowded when compared to the beach by the Dusit.
Perks of staying here:
Parking: The parking was right out front of the hotel, no issues any time I have visited finding easy access parking right to the hotel.
Cleanliness: The rooms are very clean. I bring my own wipes generally and test to see how clean the room is. Every surface I checked came back clean, UV light test was good as well. Does not feel like a dirty room whatsoever and does not give you that "keep your shoes on" feel.
View: The hotel is right off the bay, and the room views are wonderful, a nice balcony with two chairs and quiet private high side walls to keep you apart from your neighbors.
Cons I have experienced:
Check in: Both times I checked in I have asked for early check in. I did not expect to be checked in early but I asked. However, both times I was here I was informed the room was not ready after actual check in time. This particular time it was 3:27 when I got checked in. To be fair, they give you access to a small lounge with some snacks while you wait, so it is an attempt at recovery which I appreciate.
Room specifications: I booked a single bed room, I got two twins. I don't personally care but I prefer a larger bed when I am traveling solo. I booked through a third party service, so this may not be at fault of the actual hotel.
Beach: If you plan on swimming in the water, be ready to go quite far out. This is a wonderful beach for kids! The water is very very shallow and lots of fish can be seen as you wade out. It is not a particularly good beach for swimming, but if you want to snorkel and see some fish, this is the place for you.
My most recent visit, 3/5 due to the wrong bed size and the delay in checking in. Overall, 4/5 in my opinion, mainly due to the repeat...
Read moreFor 3 nights, we paid nearly $700 USD and booked a Deluxe Oceanfront Room. The first room they put us in had an awful moldy smell as soon as we walked in. The room was FILTHY. The carpets had brown stains, the bedsheets had holes and stains, and the bathroom was disgusting (dusty, dirt accumulating in corners, tiles dingy and cracked). In addition, the water kettle and the hairdryer were both broken. We asked to move to a cleaner room and were moved a few hours later. ||The 2nd room was an improvement, but there were still thick layers of dust on surfaces and places that clearly had not been touched by cleaning staff in months. There was a dirty tissue under one bedside table (not ours) that was never picked up by cleaning staff the entire 3 days we were there. The balcony was filthy and had standing water. ||Aside from the rooms, the property is old and needs to be completely renovated. The carpets are dirty, the decor very outdated, and the lobby is the most depressing space I’ve ever encountered at any “resort.” The only + is that it is located on Gun Beach which is beautiful and great for snorkeling. I did some research and discovered we could have stayed at the Dusit Thani Beach Resort for $100 less and that is a real resort located in the heart of Tumon Bay. If we visit Guam again, I definitely would NOT stay at Hotel Nikko. Im baffled that management has let the property degrade to the point that it has. ||Lastly, we had dinner at Toh-Lee on the 16th floor. The lighting feels like you’re in a police interrogation and the windows have so much condensation and dirt on them that you can’t even see the “ocean view.” When we asked to have our leftovers packed up to take back to our room, they made us sign a waiver stating that they cannot be held responsible if the food makes us ill… Not even kidding. That’s wiiiilllldd. Never in my life and certainly never again. Overall, the whole experience was a big...
