Checked in during a large fire in the area, so every hotel in Thatcher/Safford was booked for at least a week, due to tons of firemen in the area. The desk clerk told us that our res was for the same day of the week, but exactly a week in the future. I don't know whether it was my fault, or theirs, but it didn't matter. They were booked and we were screwed. We had driven all day (Including having to backtrack on the 191, drive into New Mexico, go about 100-150 miles south and back into AZ because of the fire, so needless to say, we were very tired. Oh, through twisty mountain roads to boot. And with important business in Thatcher the next day, now, we were panicked. (I didn't notice the girl's name that I was dealing with, but she didn't seem to care.) We went over to the seating area and proceeded to use our phones to call around and try to find something else in the area. Another desk clerk named Shay, overhearing us, pointed to her computer and told us that someone had just cancelled their res. Did we want it? I told her that I would take a dog bed if they had one available!! It wasn't a wheelchair room (I'm a para.), but we were thrilled beyond imagination to get it. Who knows what seedy dive we would have ended up with, or how far we would have to drive to get it. Shay went way over and above to help us out. I also want to give a girl I think named Kelsi props for helping Shay cancel out original res and setting the new one up. (I'd also like to thank the unknown woman who cancelled her room. LOL) The icing on the cake was that it was a very comfortable, roomy and clean hotel. While originally trying to book a room, other hotels had told me they were booked and that I probably wouldn't find anything in the area. Comfort Inn was not my idea of a nice hotel, but they were the only one with an opening, so I had no choice. After this experience though, I will be putting Comfort Inn & Suites in my list of...
Read moreThere are not many hotels in the Thatcher-Safford area. Selected this hotel because it looked like the newest and has a main entrance and sub-entrances with required key-cards for access for safety reasons (unlike motels common in rural areas). You guessed it, the sub-door by our side of our hotel would not shut and was open for anyone to go in as they please. VERY UNSAFE, a SAFETY ISSUE. The pool is indoors, which is not common but great for the arizona heat. The pool area was not tidy when it opened in the morning, the jacuzzi was unuseable (half-filled with water) and a hose from outside was brought in (to fill it up?) but nothing happening. The pool was a bit cold. The main reason I chose here was the jacuzzi. The room overall was very clean and the room, while a bit aged was functional and working. The bathroom ceiling was starting to crack and peel. The beds were comfortable, the coversheets were aged (strings coming undone on the top). The ice machine in my floor was unoperational, they had a snack machine next to it, empty & not operational. Had to go to different floor for ice. The free breakfast was lacking compared to similar hotels offering breakfast, and I'm not picky. The disabled elderly woman with a cane at the reception was not very friendly and seemed bothered to help. Another one when checking out, was "too busy", took a while to come out from the office just to take the cards, neither was friendly. This hotel has potential but it all comes down to the hotel manager (or the owner or company), either he's too complacent, inexperienced or just doesn't have the will to right the ship, which is a shame as this hotel has a lot of potential. The one positive other than the clean room was that check out is a bit later than most...
Read moreOverall, a nice hotel Stay. Very nice compared to some Comfort Inns I have stayed at, but not nearly worth over $200/night in the middle of nowhere when the hotel was mostly empty.
The Good Bed comfy, lots of pillows , and a nice big room. The morning breakfast worked well for us. It ran 6-9 on the weekdays we were there. There were 2 waffle makers, 4 hot items each morning including potatoes, eggs, either sausage or bacon, and one other item I can't remember. Yogurt and hard boiled eggs were in the refrigerator. They had containers of cereal. We were alone both days we were there, but the 2nd day, most of the tables were dirty and they were out of fruit loops, so they must have been busy earlier. The thing I most liked was the form to pick the type and frequency of cleaning we wanted. I picked none and we were not bothered. The female working told us we could pick up extra towels or whatever if we needed it. It was a pleasant check-in experience.
The red headed female who helped me when we checked out was super friendly and helpful.
The Bad I did not appreciate the violent movie with f bombs showing on TV in lobby during check in. I would have really been bothered if we had children with us. The next night, when we returned to the hotel, the front desk employee was sitting on the couch and watching the TV, so I'm guessing that was why the movie had been on the previous evening.
The toilet in our room was almost impossible to flush. I felt like I would break it since I had to push so hard. One annoying design feature is there is no place to hang up towels, other than 1 door hook. This isn't the fault of the local management, but it...
