This stay was predominately a disappointment. We opted to stay at the BW instead of the Holiday Inn where we stayed the year before. The primary reason for this was the hot pool and the breakfast offering. Upon our arrival, we had to drive around the hotel, nearly bottoming out our car through a back route because of construction on the street. Check in was good and the room was nice, but having no elevator - the stairs were difficult for my partner and I as we are both disabled.
We went swimming in the park and then came back to the hotel to relax for the evening. We later went down to the hotel hot pool only to find it to be turned off and the water only 96 degrees. That is not a hot pool, in fact, it is a breeding ground for bacteria when there is no flow moving the water out of the space. Other hotel guests were equally upset about this and it took another guest asking to get the water turned back on before it was taken care of and another hour before the water would actually be warm.
To make matters worse, there was constant construction noise. While not the responsibility of the hotel - being told about this, given a time frame of work hours, being offered a different room, or a discount of some kind would have gone a long way towards just feeling like the staff cared that our stay was being disrupted. Construction didnt end until nearly 6pm, and because it was immediately outside our window, we couldnt open the windows until the work was stopped for the day.
Construction started before 7am. This is no way to have a relaxing morning, or sleep in on vacation. We were immediately woken up by the noise having to close the windows to drown out some of the sound. When I made mention of this to the front desk staff, we were told that it was completely out of their control - which I understand - but there there was no acknowledgement of our frustrations but rather a dismissal that we were even complaining.
Breakfast was a complete disappointment. With more than 30 minutes left during the available hours, all of the juice options were empty. The coffee was empty. There were no clean plates out. The cereal dispenser was broken.
I had wanted to stay at the BW at a friends recommendation (she was with me), but I will not stay here again on our next trip through Thermopolis. I could have stayed back at the Holiday Inn and at least had a much nicer hot pool and a...
Read moreThis hotel to tough to rate because there are many good things and many bad. Our suite with a king bed, fridge and fireplace was great. It was spacious, and the bathroom must’ve been recently renovated and had all the modern necessities. The bed was quite comfortable. Our second story view was wonderful, from both the front and the back of the room. Having the hotel right in the Hot Springs Park is a real plus, as the park is beautiful and made for pleasant walks. Our biggest issue is the lack of proper air conditioning in some of the rooms. We had family in other rooms and one of them had to suffer through being hot with no A/C for 3 of 4 nights. The smell from the hotel’s mineral spring hot tub is sometimes unbearable. Sometimes it stinks to high heaven, and other time seems to not smell at all. A good tip would be to bring a candle for your room. The staff was at times ambivalent. An example would be them making us wait to check in. We arrived only 20 minutes before the 4PM check-in time, and were told as a matter of policy they won’t check anyone in before 4PM. A seemingly silly policy (if it’s even a real thing) because it caused a needless line of folks waiting to check in at 4. The evening cookies were wonderful, but the breakfast was tasteless. Next time in Thermopolis, we would try real hard to stay somewhere else. Best of luck to you, with regards to this...
