WE LOVED IT.
I see the reviews talking about how dated and old/crummy everything is, and it irritates me. It is what it is, and it's in the beginning stages of a major facelift. It IS old. It IS outdated. It IS VERY REASONABLY PRICED and has a WONDERFUL restaurant and ambiance if you are not abject to big game hunting. Our room was VERY clean, so I don't get the moldy bathroom mentions. They are slowly updating many things, as they can. My tech savvy hubby was majorly impressed with the new TVs, but they still run off coax, so the fancy TV has a crummy picture until they have HDMI connections. We were able to hook our PS4 into the TV and flip back and forth from the system to live tv with the press of a button. The "fancy" hotel Alex Johnson in Rapid had garbage TVs.
The bedding here was better here than the fancy hotels as well. (really could use some newer towels, though, but I found worse "new" towels at Cadillac Jacks in Deadwood and Alex Johnson in Rapid...both are Hilton properties, so...)
The breakfast is serviceable. I got a kick out of the automatic pancake making machine. The breakfast all four days we were here was biscuits and gravy (very passable, needed to add seasoning to the gravy, but Tabasco and a bit of pepper did the trick) 2 types of sugary kids cereal, packets of Quaker oatmeal to make yourself, juices, milk, basket of fruit, premade cheese omelets (a bit rubbery, lol) and a fairly decent coffee bar with different flavored syrups, also different teas with packets of REAL honey. The lady that runs the breakfast is so kind & helpful, make sure and tip her!!
We had nothing but excellent friendly service everywhere we went in Thermopolis as a whole. The ladies at the front desk were great, Brandon in the restaurant was awesome. The restaurant is FANTASTIC!
We LOVED having a hot springs fed hot tub on property that is open from 6am to 11pm. I was in it 3 or 4 times a day, lol.
If you're looking for fancy and luxury, go to a big city and pay the big prices. This is a gorgeous area to drive around, you are literally IN Hot Springs State Park here. Walk the park, go to Star Plunge, feed the huge Koi in the pond...relaxing and fun.
To put it bluntly, we paid 2x the cost of this room at The Hotel Alex Johnson in Rapid and had an awful stay there. We literally are thinking about moving up here we enjoyed the area so much. Thank you...
Read moreHere is a faithful narrative of my time spent at Hot Springs Hotel and Spa. First let me say the facility is large enough for a medium size group to stay/ conference easily. They have a few ballrooms and a restaurant to accommodate 100 people easily. I will break down the rest of my review using the Good, and the Unusual....
The Good: -The Staff at Hot Springs Hotel and Spa are great. They are the reason this hotel has a three star instead of a two star review. Most of the staff went out of their way to be friendly and helpful! They were a cheerful bunch, who answered questions about the facility and local attractions. -As stated above there was very adequate space size. The rooms, lobby and restaurant were all spacious. -Parking was easy and no matter where your room is, you will be close to your vehicle. -The outside grounds are beautiful.
The Unusual: -If you long to go back in time to 1979, then you are in the right place. The decorum is straight out of a 1979 Hunters lodge. There is so much taxidermy and pictures of successful big game hunting, that you really don't know where to look. I'm a hunter, so I appreciate good taxidermy, but this place is INSANE. I would wager there is over $1,000,000 just in taxidermy on the walls. You have your North American mounts such as bear, deer, elk and sheep. But you also have African safari mounts such as lion, cheetah, kudu, water buffalo, and more. The dining room is a museum of such well done mounts. But for me it was TOO much. I love the lodge feel. but I think they could take 1/2 of the mounts and 3/4 of the pictures down and it could be more elegant and less tacky.
If you are a person that has an aversion to hunting, blood, pictures of dead animals, etc. DO NOT COME HERE. You will not like it. If you are a person fascinated with hunting big game and fishing, this is your place.
In conclusion, I believe the staff here are great. I would stay here again. While the place is clean, it feels dated. The hotel rooms were clean. They have had a mediocre upgrade in the past 10 years. The hotel is currently under a remodel in the halls, so that may give it the kick it needs for new life. I did not soak in the natural spring tub, so I cannot offer a...
Read moreWe came from montana to soak in the hot springs. We came at 310 p.m. and the guy at the front desk said our room was not gonna be ready for a while. He stated to write our phone number down and he will call us when our room is ready. We did and we left. I ended up calling around 515 p.m. to see if the room was ready cause there was no phone call and he answered and stated that our room was ready now and he has been trying to call me but I didn't have no phone calls. We came and got our room. I would have thought he would give me some discount but he didn't cause our room was not ready. We enjoyed dinner at the restaurant there but the waitress was extremely rude to my mother in law. My mother in laws food was soggy, it has been sitting for a while because they ran out of loaded potatoes so they were going to make mashed potatoes. My mother in law was so hungry when she got her food that she ate a bit and then she couldn't eat it anymore cause it was that soggy. She asked the waitress for a discount cause she told her what the problem was, and the waitress gave her an attitude when asked for a discount. She took the plate and went to her manager, came back and said that the manager and the cook thought it was ok, before taking the plate, the waitress did admit that it was sitting and the condensation of the plate made it soggy since it was sitting waiting for the mashed potatoes to be done. My mother in law again asked for a discount, and the waitress rudely said well you ate most of it and walked away. She, at the end did give her a 5 dollar discount but there was unnecessary rudeness that we dealt with. She did not even mention that there was almost a 3 dollar fee for using a card to pay. We were never told that otherwise cash would have been used to pay. At the end, my fiancee did say he would never come back cause of the rudeness and the long wait to even get our food. We came there at 6:51 p.m. and got our food at 7:45 and left...
