A nice gentleman checked us into the Chuckwagon Lodge about 8:00PM. It is an older motel with an actual key for the door but it is quaint, clean & the room is spacious. The sink is in a separate area than the toilet & tub which is nice.||The desk chair needs to be replaced though, it leaned a lot when my husband sat in it & I was afraid it would collapse. ||The bathtub drain would not stay up that night & we showered while standing in dirty water.||Unfortunately the Chuckwagon Lodge was being roofed the next morning starting at 8:00AM. If we had known about the roofing in advance, we would have cancelled & booked somewhere else. ||I went by the front desk & told a young lady about our bathtub drain not staying up. She was not very friendly & did not seem concerned about the drain but she said she would send someone up to fix it. ||We came back by to put sandwiches in our fridge at the motel about 1:00PM & they had it roped off where we couldn’t even get in our room because they were throwing down shingles, etc from the roof.||We got back to our motel about 3:30. The drain had not been fixed & they were roofing right over our room & it was so loud! I went back to the front desk & asked when the roofers would quit for the day. A different young lady was at the front desk than the one I spoke to that morning about the drain. I am sure she was having a bad day with complaints about the roofing & she snapped at me that the roofers would quit at 5:00PM. She said that the motel had to be roofed on such short notice because the motel’s insurance was about to be cancelled if they did not roof it right away. She said that they were trying to send out last minute emails to inform people that the motel was under construction. ||I was not very happy that maintenance had not come to fix our tub that didn’t drain plus her nasty attitude so when she told me they would refund our money for the night if we wanted to leave, we packed up & left.||I am sure it was stressful for the young lady at the front desk, especially since she had a crying baby on her hip & people were checking out &/or moving to one of their cabins. I was trying to be understanding but she was downright rude or we would have ‘sucked it up’ & stayed. I also don’t see how they let the roof get in such bad shape that their insurance was going to cancel if they didn’t put a new roof on...

GREAT FIND! First, I travel - a lot, and usually stay at full service properties in bigger cities. So I give this 5-stars understanding what my expectations were and how this hotel met them.

In Torrey, this definitely feels like the best place to stay. We stayed in a 2 bedroom cabin because the trip was with my sister and her daughter. that was perfect.

The cabins each have 2 identical room with queen beds, basic comforters with nightstands on both sides, and closet with a chest of drawers. The bed and pillows were very comfortable - a bit of Goldilocks - not too firm, not to squishy... There is a single bathroom outside both rooms with a little pantry style area right outside the bathroom for you to store toiletries - great idea - since the bathroom is rather small.

There is a small kitchen with full-size refrigerator which was great to store drinks and snacks. The main area had the TV, couch, and recliner - which was a nice place to hang out after going to the park. I thoroughly enjoyed sitting on our front porch and having an adult beverage while watching the sunset in the evenings.

One of the great things about this place is the market across the parking lot - a little bit of everything - including fresh fruits, veggies, and salads if you want to pick up something light. The deli was awesome - we had breakfast there both days (huge biscuits) and they fixed us nice boxed lunches for the day.

Everyone was very friendly and we thoroughly enjoyed the stay. Note the Wi-Fi wasn't super strong in our cabin - we were the farthest away close to the road, but the point of this is to get away - so...

Our family of four had a one-night stay during an 18 day road trip. The rooms were cute and clean. The lodge was literally a stones throw from the general store. The store was stocked with everything and also had a great deli. There was a refreshing pool on site and a Trading Post across the street. Bill, the manager who made the reservation is a really nice guy and very easy to talk with. The lodge was an easy drive to and from Capitol Reef NP. Definitely worth a stay!

I have recently edited this review. I have waited two weeks since checking out to hear from the owner Jamie. I left three messages during that time with no response. My words from the original post have not changed and are accurate but my family is very disappointed in the lack of accountability and follow-up from owner regarding the quality control and safety of the hot tub. This information was temporarily omitted from the original post because we were waiting for an answer of why the bromine/chlorine levels were so high that bleached my wife and my bathing suits. Besides the destruction of our garments, it left an itchy rash on our teenage daughters legs (which on lasted a few hours). A quick call or clarification could have helped us understand what happened but there was no response from Jaime. His silence is saddening and...

We stayed in one of the old rooms. Overall it was a nice deal. Definitely older and smaller than a standard room nowadays but my fiancée and I had no issues with the size. It was clean and tidy. We had four issues during our stay. The first was that it didn't seem like there was any heating so it was pretty cold. There was enough blankets though so make up for it. The second being that we booked a queen but we both are pretty confident the bed was a full. The third issue was that you could hear the water fairly loudly when the room next to ours turned on the sink. The biggest issue we had was the shower didn't drain at all and weren't able to use it. I planned on telling the front desk but nobody was there when I dropped the keys off. The location was amazing and views were incredible. There's not much to do in the area but if you're looking for a place to stay, this is a good one. If I knew what I know now, I would've likely spent a little more money and gone with one of the more modern rooms.
