The food, cost, and atmosphere were comically terrible. Our cheese burgers were over $15 each, plus one fountain drink and one cold side of sweet potato fries, which amounted to $40+ for two people to not enjoy dinner at all. The beef smelled gamey and pungent from the moment we walked into Slackers (which is when we should have left). When we got our food the beef smelled, felt, and tasted even worse. It honestly smelled like ground hamburger meat that had gone bad. The patty had a rubbery texture and was slimy on the outside and dry and salty on the inside. It was so greasy I felt like I had a pit in my stomach. Also, I had asked if I could pay an up charge to upgrade my free side of French fries to their sweet potato fries and the cashier said “yes,” so I was surprised when they charged me the entire $3.99 for the sweet potatoes fries but then didn’t give me the regular French fries that my burger came with. They also messed up our order and gave me iridescent, shiny, neon green pickles (supernatural, cleaning product green pickles) right on my burger even though I asked for my burger without pickles. I paid the higher price for a “specialty burger - the mushroom and Swiss” but despite the higher price (over $15!) the Swiss cheese was actually a white American and the mushrooms were obviously canned because they were very slimy and had no char or grill flavor whatsoever. The sign in the bathroom smugly warns the female user that if you put feminine hygiene products down the toilet that “all the bathroom water backs up into our kitchen,” this does more to completely erode any trust in the restaurant’s basic sense of hygiene and decency than it does anything else. The outdoor “patio” has towers of filthy napkin dispensers teetering haphazardly and are coated in grease and dust. The outdoor eating area is not cleaned or kept up, making it hard to enjoy the distant view of the park - a shame in a town that is only visited due to its proximity to Capital Reef National Park - clearly the only reason Slacker’s is even open due to hungry, unsuspecting campers who didn’t bother to check Slacker’s terrible reviews. The filthy outdoor eating area just made the diner even more wary of the stinky smelling hamburger meat and the glowing pickles in their over-priced burger. Do yourself a favor, save your money, and go get your food-poisoning for free by wiping a piece of road kill on a public toilet seat and just eat that for dinner. Your stomach and wallet will probably feel better than eating...
Read moreOk, tried it on a whim for a family trip. The good was yummy! Good serving size- especially for the kids meals, which came with a big soft serve cone! Pretty pricy though. For just my family (3 adults, 2 kids) we payed over $65.00 before getting shakes.
I tried the strawberry salad. Now, to preface, i did eat a salad at a burger joint. They aren't a salad joint. The strawberries seemed like they had been sitting out for a while and there weren't a lot of them. There was a bug on one of the lettuce leaves. I'm not the kind to freak out over a bug- brush it off, eat the food. They get on the lettuce at home, and I've been camping for days. I'm not gonna cry about it. Overall the salad tasted fine. The rest of my family said their food was great.
Service wise, I did appreciate the cashier. He was very deliberate in his actions and served us well. You could tell he cared. Now the other side of service is what is served. We were in a big group, so I don't necessarily blame them, but we did have a few orders that were messed up. My grandfather ordered a double bacon burger and recieved no bacon. Uncle ordered a blueberry shake, got blackberry. Not huge things, and were not going to fight anyone over them, but it did happen.
Now the only big reason my rating is low is because of the environment. The dining area is clean, no big deal there. The outside area was as clean as could be expected. The thing that got to me was the bathrooms. The toilet did not flush. It wasn't clogged, the toilet lever simply wasn't working. With my minimal knowledge of toilet functionality I was able to remedy the situation, but still. I shouldn't have to remedy plumbing problems due to poor upkeep.
Overall, it was fine. Would I go again? Probably. Their burgers were good- according to my family. Those things that brought dissatisfaction were somewhat...
Read moreSo. . . When we asked a local resident if they recommended this place, we were told, "No! They have bad service" But we decided to try it anyway. To be clear, the food was fine and the two ladies working there were nice. However, we paid $14.98 for a bacon cheeseburger (x5 for all our family) and the food felt extremely overpriced. Despite that, we chose to eat there, so we owned that it was expensive. The clincher was when my husband asked for a water cup to use while we were waiting for the food, and was told, "it will cost 25¢." It is such a small thing, but it felt ridiculous to have just spent $90 on a meal (including a tip 🤦♀️) and then be told he needed to pay 25¢ for a water cup. We didn't have a quarter (and the credit card fees would have cost the restaurant more than 25¢ ) so he passed on the water cup. Besides that, the fries were cold because we needed to ask for to-go containers for fry sauce that were not included and the onion rings were burned. For $90, it felt like a bust. It's tricky to be in a really cute small town and feel like you're getting taken by a company who charges exorbitant prices and can't provide a high-quality customer service experience. We won't...
