When visiting Lake George, we usually stay at the same "name brand" hotel; however, when the opportunity arose for my brother and his wife to join us on a brief getaway to LG, they asked about sharing a town house they'd found at the Sun Castle Resort. While we did give up the opportunity to earn rewards points at our usual hotel, we have no regrets whatsoever in our decision to book the townhouse! |Price - We stayed 3 nights and split the cost of a two bedroom/2 and 1/2 bath unit, which ended up being around $550 per couple total. We were there in June - if we'd gone in July, at $499 per night, it would be about $750 per couple for 3 nights. | View - Our townhouse had a beautiful view of the lake, which could be enjoyed from 2 decks, one off the living room area and the other off the main bedroom upstairs. There are a few large trees that obstruct a little bit of the view, but not enough to cause any significant disappointment. We enjoyed watching the various daily cruise boats go by. |Bedrooms - the King room is definitely the best bedroom, as it not only has the largest bed, but also the upper deck providing a gorgeous view of the lake and sunrise. Its attached bath is the largest and has a roomy walkin shower. However, the Queen Room is very similar in size and is very comfortable. The "view" is the parking lot. The bathroom is a little smaller, but still has plenty of room and is equipped with a tub. If I were to suggest a few minor updates, it would be to put a curved shower rod in the queen bath, same as what is in the King bath. I'd also recommend some non-slip strips be put in the tub in the Queen bath. It became very slippery from the suds from the body wash.|The Queen bath has a doors, one to the bedroom and one to the hall. (Not sure why anyone would need to access that bathroom from the hall since the main floor has a half bath off the kitchen.) Both bathrooms are are equipped with nice bath towels, shampoo, conditioner, body wash and a blow dryer. They do not provide any routine housekeeping services during anyone's visit; however, if new linens are needed, guests can contact the front desk and more will be provided. It's important to note you must bring your own towels for the pool or beaches. The town houses have washer/dryer units which was very handy for our wet bathing suits and beach towels. (You must provide your own detergent). |Living area - the downstairs is totally opened concept with a full kitchen, half bath, dining area, and living room with gas fireplace. The sofa opens up to a queen bed. There is a cabinet in the living room with a pillow and blanket in there; however, I don't recall seeing any sheets. My guess is that they don't leave sheets in there unless they are requested for an additional guest. Some have commented that the decor is dated. I didn't think so! It has a comfortable, modern Adirondack vibe to it. There were a few nicks and scratches on the coffee table, but the furnishings are far from being worn out. |The living room has a tv and so does each bedroom. They also have free WIFI available. |Parking - each unit has a dedicated parking spot marked with a sign. If a unit is being shared like ours, additional cars can be parked up by the Erlowest Castle, the "hotel" part of the resort. All parked cars must have a parking pass visible, which can be obtained when you arrive. Some reviewers have complained about having to haul luggage down hilly paths. Ask for assistance if needed. |Pool/Beaches - the setting is beautiful overlooking the lake. Although the pool is heated, it's still very refreshing. On one day, temperatures hovered in the high 90s and the pool was quite crowded. We decided to continue on down the path to one of the two swimming beaches. There is a roped off area, but it's really just for the safety of children and those who can't swim as it's only about 3 feet deep by the rope. You can go past the ropes and still be able to stand a little ways out. There are no restrictions on swimming further keeping in mind that it's all at your own risk. I do wish a property map was provided to guests. We had to hunt for the other beach which we did find. There really isn't a path though. You get to it by walking on a grassy area between two cottages. It would have been very helpful to have a map. |A few other details... although the townhouses feel very private, the decks are not. You can see and hear everything everyone else is doing since they are all connected. The decks are spacious and noone has access to each other's deck, so it isn't a major issue. Most people were courteous and aside from a brief wave or hello respected each other's privacy. |Each townhouse has a grill, which I'm assuming is already adequately gassed up with propane. I don't know what grill accessories are provided. I didn't look. |Entrance to the unit is with a code, so no worries about losing keys or entry cards. |The units have AC as well as ceiling fans, which reminds me, if you are really tall, you'll love this place! The ceiling in every room, even the bathrooms is at least 8 foot or more! |We absolutely loved this place!! While it's a bit pricey for just us, sharing made it very doable and we had a ton of room! Hope to...
Read moreWe unfortunately stayed at Erlowest and Sun Castle Resort from November 1-3, 2024 for a wedding. Not knowing your resort, we thought that we would have very nice accommodations especially considering the event. My wife and my son stayed with me in Cabin #11. My wife and I are both 74 years old. Considering our age, we didn't realize that we had to carry the luggage so far downhill to the cabin that we were staying in. ||So, the outside temperature, when we arrived, was 63 degrees, but it was going to drop overnight. When we got into the cabin, it was pretty cool inside. I found the remote that operated the 3 wall heater/air conditioner units and pushed the temperature up 74, thinking that it would get much warmer.||We had a Welcome Party to go to so we just brought our luggage in and tried to set them up.||We headed out for the party and didn't come back to the cabin until about 11:30 pm. It was getting colder in the cabin because the heaters never came on. I thought that the heaters would have come on in the middle of the night. Boy, was I wrong. To top it off, the TV in our bedroom didn't work. So, instead of trying to do anything else, we went directly to bed, not only to sleep, but to try and get warm. ||In the middle of the night, we got pretty cold even considering we were huddled together, so l looked for some other blankets, but there weren't any to be found. It got very cold that night. ||The next morning, even though the cabin was pretty cold, I wanted to quickly chill down some water, so l put it in the freezer and noticed that the upper shelf was rusted. I felt like the old refrigerator with rust on the shelving, was an example of how dirty the cabin was.||I went in to take a shower. As soon as I open the water faucet, brown water came out. I thought to myself, what else could be wrong. The water did clear up after running it for a period of time.||Later that day, I went to the check-in desk to tell them we didn't have any heat in the cabin. The maintenance man was there. He over heard me tell them that there was no heat. He said he would go and fix it immediately. Later on that evening, there was heat in the living room/ kitchen, but none in either bedroom.||That night, the temperature was dropping to 30 degrees. All night long, my feet were freezing. My wife was even shocked how cold my feet were when I brushed them up against her. She wanted me to stay away. We got up in the morning, and I took a shower. Thank God there was hot water. I could finally get warm again, before stepping out into a much colder bathroom. I toweled myself off and prepared to leave to head back home. So we dragged our luggage back up the hill to our car.||We were never so glad to get back into a nice warm car and leave this "resort". We will never come back here again.||For further context, we came into the area on Wednesday, 2 days prior to checking into Erlowest, to check out the area. We stayed at the Marriott in town. It was such a wonderful hotel.||After our experience at your resort, we wished we had extended our stay at the Marriott for another 2 days rather than go to that uncomfortably cold cabin...
