Extra Space Storage — Local services in Town of New Paltz

Absolutely disgusting service. We had a leak in our unit, we made a complaint to the site manager, he watched us empty out a bucket of water that had been coming in from the ceiling. He used a broom to sweep water out the front of the unit as it was puddled up because there are no gutters. He assured us that he would have the unit looked at and repaired. Considering his role, as a manager, we had assumed what he was saying was being done, however, this was not the case. He had never notated the account, never made a complaint or put in a note for repair... so when we removed all of our belongings that were covered in mold, we were then told to contact the insurance company, but now, the insurance company has no notations to reference and we are at an absolute LOSS. We lost a set of furniture, all of our mattresses, and all of our kitchen appliances and tools. I took pictures and sent them in however we were denied by the insurance company. There have been repairs made on the building since but they will not disclose when and where. A well run business would know what units were improved upon. Now, we have paid 10k for the units and likely another 5k to replace all of our damaged items. Im very dissatisfied. Im very disappointed. I have been using Extra Space for the past few summers being between NYC and New Paltz. There are always helpful compassionate people working there!

One person I would like to highlight from my most recent experience at Extra Space is Brenlee. She was very personable, and grew up in the city, so she understood the struggles. Whenever I had a question or concern, Brenlee was there to help along the way.

One of the most impactful moments for me was the day I was moving out in 2018. After packing all of my things, my cousin and I were ready to head out. When we put in the code, the gate was not being responsive. After trying the code about 20 times, we thought we would be trapped there for the weekend. Another vehicle was behind us and their code was not seeming to work either. It was Sunday and the office was not open. I decided to call the Extra Space 1888 Number for help. The codes I was given were not overriding the gate either. :(

As we sat in the car planning what to do. We heard a voice. It wasn't the people in the vehicle behind us. When I got out the car, there was Brenlee! Who would have knows she'd be here just at the right time. We explain the situation to her. After trying all the codes we knew, she told us to wait just a moment. She went over to the system controlling the gate and worked some magic! BOOM! The gate opened up and we were free!

This is absolutely not the place to store your stuff. Unless you want to completely to be completely ripped off. There needs to be a law in place to stop what is happening at extra space storage in new Paltz. We moved our stuff there in October of 2020. 3 months after we moved it there. They raised our rate from $255 to $310. We just received a notice that they will be raising our rate to $390. That all in a year. They know…that all the space in the area are full. So….they have decided that is great time to take advantage of people as we all recover from a world wide pandemic. This is great way to take advantage of people. Gouge them while they are hurting. Brutal I’ll be contacting the consumer protecting agency to notify them of what type of buisness model they have going on here.

THEY DID AGAIN. RAISED MY RATE ANOTHER $100/month THIS INSANE …someone is going to need. To stand up up again it’s the extra space business model… everybody sll smiles when you move your stuff in. Because they know they are going to screw you once they have all your stuff moved in. From $270 to $470 in less then 2yrs. I couldn’t move my stuff out. Now I have no choice. … but they don’t care.
