They made me and my friends put away all of our water bottles and told us to "Just chug it outside or buy our water bottles here". Does 1 star seem harsh for that? Well I'll tell you what's harsh, making me put back tap water and dehydrate for 3 hours irrespective of any dietary requirements for consistent hydration I might have. Also had to put back backpacks (from hiking) which was more understandable but still felt nonetheless like we were like smugglers at TSA or something.
Normally I would've given New Paltz Cinemas 4.5 stars though because the tickets are very affordable and the theater is always meticulously clean and nice. Recliners are very comfortable too. But this single experience ruined this establishment to me. They've had a high pressure sales tactic on popcorn and concessions for a while now where they'll specifically rope the door off to lead you long ways through the snacks and will stare and ask you after getting tickets, "And how many popcorns should I ring you up for?" or "You're not getting any popcorn?". No I'm not, I went here for a movie. Not a bad theater at all, but taking away water from people was the final straw for me. They act like they are in desperate need of revenue, but if banning water bottles is what it takes I think you need to consider your options. It got my review down to one stars because I really think that's totally unacceptable treatment. It's just water. You really need to forbid me from...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreFor those of us not in Dutchess County or looking for a reasonable Cinema this is honestly inexpensive especially for a matinee it's only $6 plus they give you to coupons when you go there like each person gets a coupon for $1 off on their snack bar so my husband and I are basically only cost us $10 to go to the movies and we got a really large so what are Yes We snuck in our own popcorn but even at that it would have only been like around $14 with the movie theater tickets soda and popcorn for 2 which is so much less expensive than NCG Cinemas in Kingston yes okay you have to travel in New Paltz to get there but great location and the best part is I love the Nostalgia of everything the movie theater is so old-fashioned looking and it's just a Nostalgia that makes it absolutely adorable and I would totally recommend this theater and we absolutely would love to come back to it we were expecting the prices to be a lot more expensive than they were that's why we snuck in our own popcorn but other than that absolutely highly recommended these guys have done a fantastic job yes there's only about maybe about 4 theaters in the entire place but the employees staff and everybody there keep it absolutely immaculate the only thing I can say about the bathroom is that the toilets do you need an upgrade because the toilet I sat on was quite wobbly like it was going to fall over other than that fantastic job I give...

The $6 matinees and Tuesday nights are why I go here instead of somewhere else. Recently they starting giving you a $1 off coupon toward concessions. I suppose they need to boost revenue since so many, like me, avoid paying for overpriced food, especially when they're trying to save a few bucks. I decided that if they sweeten the pot even more, I might actually spring for something this time. They didn't disappoint. On the door tonight a sign says "for a limited time" you get a free refill on popcorn or soda. So I splurged for the small popcorn, $4 with my dollar off coupon, and of course I went back for my free refill. Hey, even cheapskates got to pony up once in a while...
Oh yeah, also the staff is friendly and the theaters are small but not overcrowded. Well worth the price,...
