I can’t give enough praise to My Place in Tucson. First of all, the rooms were incredibly clean and so comfortable, and the customer service was probably the best I’d ever received at a hotel, and I travel often. They were very generous with the towels, and the ability to keep our family’s dogs in the rooms was such a relief. After my first night, I called all of my other family members, and they also booked rooms at My Place. They also were very impressed with their rooms. The ADA room for my elderly family members was perfect as the beds were low, and they had multiple accommodations for people with disabilities throughout, including in the bathroom and on the windows. We had two dogs traveling with us, and the proximity to a beautiful trail just across the parking lot was perfect for taking them out.
This place is also super close to shopping centers, and was within walking distance from Sprouts (My favorite store.) The rooms were equipped with an in-suite kitchenette and full sized refrigerator. There were also multiple grills down in a community outdoor area with tables and benches, in addition to an indoor seating area with tables and chairs. This made it so easy to prepare and eat our meals together.
We were all visiting from out of town to sit at my uncle’s bedside while he was in the ICU on life support. It was such an overwhelming time for my family that was also in town visiting. I checked in on March 1st, and had planned on checking out on the 3rd, but my uncle was hanging on so I postponed my trip back and kept extending my stay at My Place. The staff at My Place was so compassionate for my situation, and I could feel that they really cared about the tough time we were all going through. The manager on duty, “Major” with his warm personality made our stay excellent. My uncle passed away on the morning of Tuesday, March 5th, and that was the day I checked out. I kind of broke down at check out, and they whipped out a box of kleenex.
Like I said, having the clean and comfortable rooms should always be expected, and My Place delivered on that 1000%, but I was so pleasantly surprised that all of the staff was so wonderful.
Thank you!!! I would stay at My Place in South Tucson again, for sure. You guys made my family’s...
Read moreIf you are disabled or have accessibility needs, DO NOT stay at this hotel.
I made a reservation at this hotel primarily because of its location and because their website indicated they had accessible rooms on the dates we required. My wife uses a power wheelchair for mobility and we must stay in ADA rooms. But the accessibility features of the room were lacking, the staff completely untrained about how to treat guests with disabilities, and the manager completely turned a blind eye to our concerns.
Upon arrival, my wife and I made our way to the ADA check-in desk (which is at a lower height than the standard desk). The reception agent MADE US MOVE TO THE STANDARD HEIGHT DESK to check in because the manager Major Johnson was logged into the computer at the ADA desk and would not step away from the computer so the reception agent could check us in at the lower desk.
As for the room, the toilet grab bars were on the right side, which suited our needs, but the bed was lower than the 17" as required by the ADA. The bed was comprised of a metal platform and a thin mattress pad. NO BOX SPRING. When you sat upon the bed, it would squish to around 13". This violates ADA requirements. We informed the front desk that this was unacceptable (making bed transfers nearly impossible) and she suggested we either 1) go to Home Depot and buy some bricks to support the bed, or 2) "go search the arroyo behind the hotel, because since we are new and construction just finished, there may be bricks they left behind." I'm not kidding. She said that.
After all of this, I reported the situation to the manager and his reply was "according to MyPlace corporate, our rooms meet ADA standards." Never mind that a disabled person in a wheelchair (who happens to be a certified ADA inspector) is right in front of him telling him the room fails ADA standards. He simply blew us off and returned to his computer without another word.
A few days after our stay, I completed an online survey, detailing how horrible our stay was and all the challenges the hotel and our room posed for us. I got a canned and totally vague e-mail response from Major Johnson.
So, AVOID THIS HOTEL if you have ADA or DISABILITY NEEDS. The staff will treat you with...
Read moreI have stayed here more than 10 times. The rooms are very nice and clean every time so thank you. A couple of the staff members are nice some just don’t care. The manager I think named Wayne is very unprofessional as he makes his staff open rooms around 9 AM to clean which eliminates the customer service this hotel could have. They will open your door if you don’t have a do not disturb sign on your door but they don’t mention that at check in. They have opened my door twice. The first time I just had got out the shower and I do not know if I was seeing naked! There was no knock at my door. My door was unlocked because I had just came back from my car and didn’t lock it behind me, I thought it was a mistake by an employee but the second time it happened I was in the shower and they were banging on the door like a police officer which startled us and they didn’t hear me saying “what?!” And tried to open the door again but this time it was locked. So make sure your doors are locked! I went to the manager I referenced to ask what was going on and he responded with an attitude, confrontational and aggressive towards me, and basically shut down my concern and told me he didn’t want to speak to me anymore. Other then that this hotel is a good stay just hope you get the right employees to greet you in. Management should care more about the customers and hard working people that pay to stay here than his employees getting the job done early. In no hotel I have ever been in have they tried to open the doors like that. Check out is 11am not 9am or 10am. They need to make that clear at check in if that’s how they run things. I wasn’t going to say anything either but this morning I overheard an employee complaining about that situation and it made me upset that other people are...
