The night clerk was super friendly and helpful. When we got there, we just put our stuff into the room and left to go enjoy walking downtown.
I didn't really notice anything other than the room was dated, not a big deal. When we got back that night is when we noticed the issues. The room just wasn't clean. My oldest was able to see the top of the plastic tub/shower, and it was filthy. We were placed in a room that had an adjoining door. I noticed it wasn't locked, and when I tried to lock it, the lock barely turned more than a quarter of an inch. So I placed the chair that was in the room and wedged it in between the TV stand & wall so it couldn't be opened.
Also, I found out the AC didn't work well. We were hot all night. Thankfully, I had a large fan to at least move around the air. It was late so we didn't ask for a different room.
Unfortunately, the worst realization came the day after we left. My 8yo daughter woke up from our hotel room at our next stop. I asked how she slept. She said good and happy that the bed wasn't sticky. That comment has me worried. Needless to say, I had to ask lots of questions, and she didn't understand why I was being so inquisitive. Now, I have to have an uncomfortable convo with her pediatrician as one can only suspect what the sticky substance was. My thoughts go back to the fact that there was a couple in the adjoining room, and they would have had access to our room for hours while we were out before I discovered the door wasn't able to be locked. My thoughts go to them mainly because of the way they were acting. I felt like I was being watched, and this, too, was before noticing the door lock. I can't say for sure it was them. I can only hope that maybe the hotel just used pods or something that just didn't rinse out completely. All I can say is I'm pretty disgusted and very concerned. I would NEVER stay in the hotel again. Lastly, the free breakfast was subpar. But the worst part of the breakfast was the lady working there who was just standing starring at everyone who was getting food. I don't mean just checking to see if she needed to refill anything or standing by in case anyone needed help. It was like hovering over. It is hard to put into words. It was just...
Read moreWow, what an experience! I got a great deal, $101 per night. The staff was very friendly and accomodating. I was pleasantly surprised by the goodies in the room, Aveda products, how fun!!! The breakfast was fun, a nice variety of waffles (with butter and syrup options), cereal, biscuits/gravy, muffins, bagels, oatmeal and more!
The gym is across the street, which seemed a little odd, but it is a very well stocked gym with pretty much anything you could possibly want, so I didn't mind the short walk (it was a nice warmup!).
In addition to the many Wizard of Oz attractions within walking distance, there are numerous restaurants within walking distance (including THREE pizza restaurants, one directly across the street, one diagonally across, and one on the same side of the street). It is a relatively busy street but the crosswalk button works within seconds.
My only complaints are the back door from the parking lot (I was there for 3 days and never could get it to lock, and other guests noted the same issue) and the sink in the bathroom (VERY slow to drain) and the thin walls/floors (I could hear every time someone walked by, and my first night the people upstairs were SO loud I could not fall asleep until they did, which was after midnight, and then wake up when they...
Read moreWe booked the Wamego Inn knowing that we wanted to visit the Oz Museum while in the area. We paid $116 for one night including taxes and fees. It is a two-story hotel and we were placed on first floor upon request. There is free off-street parking. It is about 10 miles off highway 70 on the north side of Wamego. The museum and the downtown area will require a short drive. We had a friendly efficient check in with the front desk staff even with a late-night check in. The hotel has an outside pool. There was free reliable password-protected internet. There is also a free accessible ice machine. We had an accessible king room with desk and chair. The vanity is separate from an accessible shower. Very clean grounds and facility. The breakfast had hot items (potatoes, biscuits and gravy, sausages, waffles) plus continental offerings. It was available as early as 5:00 am. There was some outside and hall noise. We had a comfortable bed. There was a mini-fridge with separate freezer, microwave, coffeemaker, hair dryer, but no iron and ironing board. It is somewhat isolated in more residential neighborhood but there are conveniences across the street. There are walkable areas and green space. One of the Totos scattered around town is outside to greet you...
