As you approach this property, especially on a cold and windy evening, you may question your decision to stay but don't.
With the new vertical blinds (a HI Express standard) all closed and a very flat and featureless front exterior, it looks a bit like some of the newer long term storage facilities you see in many cities. The layout on the property is also a bit weird as there is no parking directly in front of the hotel and instead you are parking on the back side of the family style chain restaurant that is adjacent to the hotel. They have certainly taken away the parking envy of arriving and trying to find a spot close to the entrance as there are none.
Entering the lobby area you are greeted with a fresh design that was welcoming warm on such a cold evening. The person working the desk when I arrived at nearly midnight was very friendly and helpful and even offered to get me a coffee.
The rooms are the new utilitarian design which is functional but certainly not "warm and cozy". The work area was nice but missing any sort of desk lamp and was simply lit with a bar of LEDs mounted high above it. This room had to have at least 4 light switches that did nothing and in fact the lighting along the top of the headboard was plugged into an outlet and had to be unplugged to turn it off. The aforementioned vertical blinds are great for blocking out exterior light but simply lack the warmth of a standard drapery. The bed was very comfortable and I do like having some hooks on the wall that can be used to hang up a jacket without having to get a hanger out of the closet.
The bathroom follows the utilitarian theme. It is usable but small. A pleasant surprise was having the Toilet Paper dispenser visible (I hate when they are behind you when sitting down) but because there was a towel rack on the same wall it was probably only 18" off the floor which is a bit weird.
Overall this is a comfortable place to stop along the busy I-75 corridor between Dayton and Toledo with great staff, a clean room and a comfortable...
Read moreHad problems at check in that could have been avoided with a desk clerk with people skills. She sounded like a robot repeating what she had been told to say. We checked in and went up to our room to find that it was not the room we booked (booked a 2q suite with sofabed and this was just a regular 2q room). Went back to the desk only to get repeatedly asked if I really needed the suite. I booked the suite, paid for the suite, so yes I want the suite. It isnt her place to ask if i really need it or not. The girl told me that room types are not guaranteed but ever once offered to change the rate I was paying to put me in the smaller room. If I'm paying for a suite, I want a suite. She ended up looking for a while on the computer and gave us another room. We took all of our stuff up to the room only to find that it was already occupied with someone else's belongings. Went back down to the desk and this time the girl went up and checked to make sure the room was not occupied. So, we get to our third room and it was ok. It wasn't the cleanest by any means. There were several crumbs in the area by the refrigerator. The bathroom had a lot of dirt build up in the corners. The drain plug on the tub was rusty and broke. You had to hold the handle down for quite a while to get the toilet to flush. The lights on the mirror were different--made it hard to put make up on. The suite itself was the size of a regular room with a couch shoved in where a chair would normally fit. The pull out hit the air conditioner when out completely. The lady at breakfast was awesome. She helped my son with pancakes and walked around asking how everything was. Overall, the experience would have been much better had it not been for the...
Read moreAs my year and a half project is winding down I figured it would be time to write a review since I have the full experience. I have checked into the hotel 53 times to date and have stayed a total of 187 nights. In short, I would recommend this hotel to anybody. Brad Will is the general manager and has been great to work with. At every check-in I am greeted by either Leslie, Owen or both, I always look forward to seeing them as they are always in a good mood and make the mundane aspect of checking in for a weeklong stay at a hotel that much more enjoyable. The hotel is exactly what you expect out of a Holiday Inn Express, and that is a clean room and a hot breakfast. The nights have always been quiet for me and noise has been at a minimum. I barely utilized rooms service but when I did they did a great job at tidying everything up and doing a full turnover. While there is not a lot in Wapakoneta they have a great little downtown and several nice places to grab a bite to eat, The Side Rail and J Marie’s is a must visit if you want a good sit down restaurant with some cold suds and a great atmosphere The hotel is right next to the Neil Armstrong Museum which you could throw a stone to, though in the year and a few months I’ve been staying here I have never ventured over there. Several great golf courses are around, including Shelby Oaks and Arrowhead in Minster. The hotel is right off the highway and has an easy access driveway with a stoplight for anyone worried about turning onto a busy roadway. Once again if you are traveling through the area and need a place to rest the Holiday Inn Express will get my...
