Shemalis — Restaurant in Washington

I shopped at Shemalis on New Mexico Avenue last week and was very happy with my puchases. I was even happier when I got an email offering me a $2 discount for the next time I shopped there. Unfortunately, when I went to the same store today, I was told that the discount that was offered would not be honored. That was only at the Connecticut Avenue store. I did. not even know about the existence of the Connecticut Avenue store and had only shopped at the one on New Mexico Avenue. Why bother to send a discount if it cannot be honored at the store in which your customer has shopped....

The prepared food is delicious and the bowl I ordered was so stuffed that the lid integrity was tested - very generous portions! You can also order a la carte items from bins - falafel, kebbe, zucchini pie, spinach pie... all delicious. They also have Jordan almonds as a snack pack.... a must. The staff is polite and nice. A very welcome addition to the Albemarle/Connecticut Ave corner. We have made a few visits and $35 was enough food to have fed the two of us a couple...

The sweetest employees work here! They have an affordable hot shawarma and bowls over the counter, as well as a grocery store stocked with basics such as lentils, freekeh, labne, pita, turmos, spices, cheese, fresh olives, homemade hummus, tabooleh, and other dips. I also got their homemade meat and spinach pies (~$2 each) and heated them at home and they’re so delicious. Highly recommend...
