I stayed here twice during a business trip, several weeks each time. Overall it's ok, and from what I've heard a better option than the surrounding hotels. Some things to note:
Most importantly: the AC cannot be turned off. You can make it not heat or cool the room, yes, but it will have zero effect on its noise output. Good luck trying to fall asleep with that going in the room. During my first stay I thought it was defective and tried four different rooms - alway the same behavior. During my second stay I gave up and had learned how to open it. Simply pull off the covering from the sides, then unplug the cable to actually turn it off for good. There is minimal lighting in the rooms. In particular, there is no ceiling light. It's not at a level where you would need a flashlight to get around, but it's not bright by any means and annoying that you always have to turn on all the small lights scatterd throughout the room to get at least some lighting going. Toilet paper is some of the flimsiest I've seen Breakfast is what you would expect to get in the US. The healthiest option is probably the oatmeal although I fear they put sugar even in that. If you're lucky and early there will be some cut fresh fruit to go with it. Otherwise there are always apples available but good luck cutting those with the plastic cutlery. Bring a decent knife yourself. You will hear people in the hallway, depending on which side of the building you are either the train or the cars from the parking lot, and if you're close to the breakfast area also everything from down there (especially the waffle-maker beeping). Internet was always fast enough, even on one day I worked completely from the room with MS Teams calls and everything. Wifi also reaches to the parking lot ;)
Edit: Thanks for the response, warrants an...
Read moreI really loved this hotel - it's above and beyond for the price. The room was nice and large, I ended up with a king bed and a sofa. There's a fridge, a microwave, and a few wire drawers to put away your clothes. I especially loved the bathroom - lots of counter space and a very nice shower. Everything seemed to be really clean and fairly updated.
The lobby is really nice and breakfast is over and beyond. There are two types of waffle makers - either one big waffle or four small ones - and they had chocolate batter with toppings! There was also hot oatmeal with toppings and a tray set up with warm eggs, meat, and potatoes. And the three aren't the same everyday! My first morning it was scrambled eggs and bacon. On my second, it was cheese omelettes and sausage. And there's fruit, juice, yogurt, cereal, boiled eggs, toast, bagels, muffin - all the normal stuff. I only wished there were some peanut butter out for the bananas. A coffee/tea/hot chocolate station stays open all day.
In the room, you can use Chromecast to cast your own streaming stuff from your phone to the TV, which I really enjoyed. At first, I couldn't get it to work for me and Luke from the desk came up to help and was very nice. Eventually, I realized I had to turn my VPN off to use it.
My only complaint is that the thermostat in the room only goes down to 68, which ended up feeling too warm for me to sleep well. My first night, I came in after a 9-hour drive so I slept fine. But the next night I didn't sleep as well. I even had the room up to 75 during the day just to make it feel colder when I did turn it down, but no luck. There's also a train that runs behind the hotel and I was on that side. But with earplugs in, I couldn't...
Read moreThere are NOT enough stars to rate this hotel. It was one of the best experiences I have ever had. I usually do not review hotels, but I had to review this one.
We are from Minneapolis and we traveled to IL for five days and nights to go to Six Flags themed park in Gurnee. First off. This hotel was beyond comfortable for our five night stay. We had a king suite and it was roomy enough for our family of five. Our bed was more comfortable than our own. Our kids felt like it was home, so much that they called it the hometel. And referred to it as home.
The staff was friendly and when we would place trash or towels outside our door, they were quickly removed and replacements were punctual.
We stayed during Covid. I have OCD and so do my children. I have very high standards for cleanliness. This hotel was so clean and so comfortable. They have Lysol wipes and tissues by the elevators. They thoroughly cleaned and sanitized our room. The entire facility was clean. It was impressive. And there were sanitizing stations everywhere. The owners and staff of this Hampton Inn really made sure their guests were safe.
I also want to discuss the location. We do not love to feel overly crowded and Waukegan was nice for that. The hotel is located next to restaurants, fast food, Walmart, and the dollar tree. All a must for us. Plus the town is not overly crowed and congested like Gurnee. It was a nice escape after spending the day in the overcrowded amusement park.
We will be returning for another Six Flags vacation in Fall and we will defiantly be staying at the Hampton...
