My disgusting stay at Courtyard Chicago- Waukegan/Gurnee|I reserved a room on August 12, 2024, for my son's Navy Graduation on 9/12/24, and I arrived to check in on 9/11/24.|Upon our arrival at 1600 hrs, we were dismayed to find that the only available room was a handicapped one, a far cry from what we had expected.|The room we were given was a far cry from the one advertised on their website, a clear case of misleading marketing.|The bathroom had no ventilation fan, so whenever you showered, you had to open the door for 20 min before shaving or being able to put makeup on. Oh, and if someone had to take a number two, well, god help you if your significant other does nasty doozer in the toilet. You would be smoked out of the entire room. Oh my, I almost felt like a sick patient and was sleeping in a hospital room with, yes, a beautiful hospital-looking bathroom with a lovely metal mirror, very little light, multiple drains on the floor, and one right in the center of the bathroom. |Thanks for skipping the ventilation fan installation at Courtyard Chicago—Waukegan/Gurnee. It made my stay an enjoyable experience, to say the least. |Then, on day 3, Discovering dried blood on the comforter, just inches from my face, was a shocking and disturbing experience. It's appalling that I slept with someone else's bodily fluids so close to me. This is not the standard of cleanliness one would expect from a hotel like Courtyard Chicago- Waukegan/Gurnee.|Oh, I almost forgot the supposed brand-new beds. Boy, do these beds look nice and comfy on their website? Nope, we had two queens on a box spring placed on the floor, and oh boy, it felt like I was sleeping on a concrete floor. |Let's keep going; the breakfast was even better to describe; well, let's say on the Courtyard Chicago- Waukegan/Gurnee website, you will see a beautiful picture of a plate of food with scrambled eggs, bacon, potatoes, and wheat bread, Yummy well I thought, and this is why we upgraded to get the breakfast which of course was additional. Well, we didn't receive this plate of food. Instead, we received a cardboard box full of garbage food; my 10-year-old daughter could have cooked up better, but god bless her, but I would pass on that opportunity. |Oh, and we are not done, folks, yet; this place is a real winner, winner chicken dinner, well their website makes it sound like they have this 3-4 star restaurant and bar where they service this incredible food and all, but NO, upon my self being hungry one evening during this adventurest stay at the ( Courtyard Chicago- Waukegan/GurneeWell, an employee told me, don't bother ordering because the food at this so-called incredible bar and restaurant is nothing but dried chicken patties, microwave food that is put together in an instant to then charge you at a minimum of $15.00 per whatever they are trying to sell as food. Well, to my dismay, I was so hungry and just wanted to see for myself; upon approaching the bar, I saw the young lady pulling a tiny little pizza from the microwave and then proceeding to cut it up with no gloves, then opening the cash register, then going back to plate this so-called pizza so she could carry over to the unsuspecting poor individual seated at a table getting ready to have a feast: poor thing, shame on Courtyard Chicago. |To sum up, if you are attending your Navy sailors' graduation, this place is a complete joke. There are at least 20 other hotels where I would spend your money to enjoy your once-in-a-lifetime experience. ||And let's say this complaint has nothing to do with money; I mean, it's only $230 a night for a 3-night stay; no, this is about warning the public that this specific hotel is run by a bunch of cons and sheisters, which, none of the pictures they advertise do not resemble anything I saw or witnessed. and upon complaining, do you think I was helped or even maybe " I apologize, what can we do to remedy your concerns?" Nope, I just got the typical excuses and middle finger; I mean, not literally, but it...
Read moreMy wife and I stayed here about a week ago it was a three-day visit . We were in town for our son's graduation from Navy boot camp which was just a few minutes away. On the first evening about 1:30 a.m. my wife woke screaming saying that something had bit her while sleeping. She had multiple bites on the back of her leg and they got inflamed quickly. I immediately went down to the front desk and they changed our room right away. Even though we did not sleep well that first night the rest of the stay was fine. I spoke to the assistant hotel manager late the next morning her name was Tracy. Tracy told me they had the room inspected about 8 a.m. that morning they did not find anything. I told her obviously something was in the bed and bit my wife we even have photos and video to show it. I told her there was obviously about a 5 or 6 hour gap from when we were in the room and when they had it inspected. I asked her if there would be any type of compensation for that one night she said it was kind of out of her hands and it was a Marriott decision. I spoke to Marriott representative by phone and they told me the same thing that it was out of their hands and up to the hotel manager. I left two voicemails for the hotel manager after our stay was done she did not get back to me she had Marriott call me and remind me that I would get no compensation. This was quite an inconvenience as I said we changed the room about 2 a.m. ,we were up for the graduation at 5:30 a.m. and barely slept. Marriott and the Courtyard Marriott Hotel assistant manager offered no type of resolution to us except "you say something happened and we cannot prove that it did". It was a terrible resolution they could have done something for us ,we paid to eat breakfast there a few days and we also paid and ate dinner and had drinks in the lobby for a few nights. My wife and I travel a lot and I've never had an incident like this before in our lifetime. Again the incident was not really acknowledged and was handled very poorly. I would strongly advise anyone from staying in this hotel because it seems obvious to me if there is any type of conflict you will not get any sympathy or any type of resolution to the problem. We are highly disappointed and insulted in Marriott itself and...
Read moreThe employees were nice but the younger employees needed to pay more attention. Both were busy assisting other clients when I walked in to Check In. That wasn't a big deal. But when the female was finished, she didn't greet me. She ignored my presence when she saw me walk in a few minutes prior. Then a Manager came around to her, still nothing. Seemed like she was ending her shift & was counting her drawer down. I understand that but at least say "Hi, someone will be right with you". Then male employee was finished helping his client. I was sitting there waiting for him to finish up to greet me. A group of ladies walked in, walked up to the gentleman and he began helping them. Why wasn't I helped & now cut in line?! I was agitated & disappointed. I did say something to the gent & he disregarded me.
The hotel grounds were beautiful! My room was great, comfortable, clean & well-done. The shower: amazing! Linens were wonderful.
Besides my initial experience trying to Check In, I was mainly disappointed in the "Graduation Package" this hotel offered. I was going to bring my own homemade decorations for our hotel door when I got my brother from Base but this hotel confirmed with me that the Graduation Package will decorate the door & have snacks/drinks specially for the Sailor. The day arrived for the Graduation, we walk up to our room door & the 'door decoration' was a tacky 8"x11" sheet of paper with faded color in stating "Congrats on your Graduation". Nothing else. We walk in & the room's "snacks & drinks" was a DINNER PLATE with 1 cracker jack mini-bag, 1 Milkyway Bar & 1 Pepsi. If I had known this "Graduation Package" was to be this minimal, tacky & disappointing, I certainly wouldn't have paid for that. This trip was for my brother's USN boot camp graduation, I wanted it nice for him for when we got back from Base & this was a major disappointment. I even had my camera rolling to see his surprise when he got to our door but it wasn't anything to brag about when we got to it which was a shame. If I had known how lacking this Package was, I would've done my own decorations for him & as well as pay for breakfast...
