This was my first time at Thousand trails moody beach. It was also my first time using my Thousand trails membership. I have to admit my first impressions were not very good, but it changed. To start I was late getting there so I was stressed. Once I got there they gave me a map with a list of available sites to choose from. I’m use to having an assigned site. I tried 3 sites before I found 1. The sites are also parallel to the roads which I am also not use to that. I am not saying these things are bad just different than what I am used to. While I was setting up I noticed most of the campers were very old and not in the best condition. I also notice a strong odor of Weed. It was coming from everywhere. I’m not a prude I just don’t love the smell. Anyway all of this made my stress level higher. To be honest at that point I was ready to pack up and go home and cancel my Thousand trails membership, but my wife was coming the next day and I figured I would give it a try. On Sunday most of the older campers left and a lot were replaced with newer ones and most of the people were families. We were scheduled to go home on Tuesday. The weather was bad almost the whole time I was there. I decided on Tuesday that it wouldn’t be fair for me to make a judgement on the campground and Thousand trails from what I experienced. I saw the rest of the week was going to have good weather, so I decided to try and extend my stay. I tried to do this on my app and wasn’t able to. I then went to the store and the person who was there couldn’t do it for some reason but there was Thousand trails rep on site. He was fairly new and he wasn’t sure how to do it. He gave me a business card for his boss. I called his boss and he wasn’t in his office so he also couldn’t do it. When you read this I want you to know that I didn’t feel like I was getting the runaround. Everyone was as helpful as they could be and very pleasant to deal with. I called the 800# and let a call back number. Thousand trails called me back in less than 10 minutes. When I told her what I wanted to do she was able to work it out. Because I another reservation scheduled in less than 7 day they said I couldn’t do it, but I asked if I could pay for a couple days and they allowed me and gave me a 20% discount. She was very nice and helpful. Everyone that I dealt with was as accommodating as possible.
We really enjoyed the rest of our time there. We did use the pool and hot tub which were fine. If you are looking for an RV resort type this is not for you. It’s a great place to setup camp and take advantage of all of the attractions in the area. This is my first year camping so I am trying different places to find out what I like and don’t like. There is a great beach near by that allows dogs any time. We checked that out with our dogs and it was great. We are booked there...
Read moreWe have traveled with our 5th wheel all but 4 of the lower 48 states. This is the worst campground we have booked for more than an overnight. When we travel we tend to find campgrounds to stay for 2 to 4 weeks at a time. (Other than 1 nighters in between.) When we booked the site in January for August for 2 weeks. They told us with our size 5th wheel (40ft) we would have to be in the new area. Asked to pay extra for a site lock. This was not available but no worries we'd definitely be in the new area because of our size. When we arrive on check in day. No new area sites available. Wanted to give us a site # to see if we could fit and if not come back. I said we aren't driving this rig around to a site we can't fit give us a site to accommodate our size. We have had a reservation for months. A guide was called to show us the 2 available sites that might accommodate us. (Meanwhile we have already paid for the full 2 weeks prior to knowing this issue) Hubby picked the best of the 2 worst sites available. Had to back in our pull through due to obstacles and trees. Had to move the neighbors table and chairs on the edge of the street so we could back in. After all this we had a buddy site with strangers. (Who actually were very friendly) otherwise the other permanent campers have been very rude. Telling us a vehicle our size shouldn't be in this area..etc. (definitely not our choice) The full time campers here have an attitude, the upkeep of this place is awful. Trash everywhere. Mostly permanent campsites that have been allowed to do whatever they want. Outside refrigerator, washer, dryers overstepping their lot lines for screen rooms, fire wood stacks and patio tables. This makes it very difficult for RVs to manuver the roads. Sadly this has been the longest week of camping. We have one more week here and I know we we pull out we will annoy the permanent neighbors cuz their patio table and chairs will need to be moved from the street line for us to get this beast outta of a site that was too small for our camper. $88 a night for a dirt site that is too small. Sorry I can't give a good review. I do see the new area sites would have been a much easier park for our rig and is much cleaner. But unfortunately the rest of the park needs an overhaul. Simply clean up the permanent sites and save sites to accommodate the vehicle sizes you have on your...
Read moreI have stayed here a few times in the past couple of years, and each time it seems to go a little further downhill.
In August of 25, I stayed there for 4 nights in the tenting section. The first evening I was woken up at 11:30 PM when the campers next to us rolled in with their headlights shining into my tent. They then went to clanging tent poles and blowing up air mattresses with a high pitched blower until around 12:30 AM, setting up their site with their headlights for a guide. So much for enforced quiet hours. My son was also awoken by this as it took place 15' from our tent. I let it go and didn't complain.
The entire 4 day stay involved disgusting bathrooms that were never cleaned. I used the same stall each time and the same wad of toilet paper was on the back of the toilet for 3 of the 4 days. Showers were cold and overall the bathrooms were just gross...at all times.
The last night of our stay I woke up to crunching around my tent at 4 am. I assumed it might be a racoon or an animal, but upon peering out through my unzipped tent I realized it was a person from the campsite beside us. They were under the influence of something and were staggering around and crashed into the clothesline and towels we had hanging on it near our picnic table. I hollers out of the tent and ask them to leave the site. They indicated they were trying to find their campsite. Once again my son was woken up by this disturbance. Not knowing fully what they were under the influence of or what they were up to I stood guard from 4 am until everyone else in the family was up for the day. We promptly packed up and got out of there. On our way out I planned on talking to the office about it so they were aware of the nuisance, but they did not open until 10 am.
I did receive a survey via email and text from Thousand Trails. I filled it out and asked that someone from the management contact me so I could discuss in detail the issues I had while there. The did respond via text that management would contact me. It is now September, 5 weeks since I was there, and I am still holding my breath for that call.
The campground has a lot of potential, but when I stayed it was dirty, there was no one to enforce rules and it was not a...
