What you got in that sauce! Homemade tartar sauce is a flavor all it's own and it is lovely! Tangy, sweet and the creamy that you need to offset the crunchy deep fry. We asked for a "shrimp poor boy", not on the menu, but the owner was happy to whip it up. If you haven't had deep fried shrimp in buffalo sauce on a buttered roll then you are missing out on life. The shrimp was juicy, flavorful and still had a crunch from the breading even though it was tossed in buffalo sauce. Our other two meals were whole belly clam and clam strip rolls, yep, that's right, under that massive pile of clams is your buttered, toasted roll, HUGE portions! Perfectly cooked fries and onion rings added a nice addition as a side, but their menu lists homemade chips, or even potato salad alternatives. We tried a cup of chowda as well, we had too, creamy, hot, good underlying smokey bacon flavor. A few locals were leaving as we pulled in and we asked advice on what was good - burgers, steak and cheese and pretty much everything was the response. It was a Friday, a little after lunch and the parking lot was full, but a take out order only took 15 minutes. I would definitely come back the next time we are in Maine.

Extremely disappointed. We’ve vacationed here for a few years now, and this was - by far - the most disheartening dining experience we’ve had in the Wells area. We were out all day and decided to stay in and order a few appetizers to share for dinner. We ordered the Mexican dip, crab quesadilla, and mozzarella sticks. When my husband handed me the takeout bag, I thought it felt a little light. But I wasn’t officially discouraged until I checked out the teeny-tiny quesadilla ($22), the half-full cup of dip with barely enough chips to fill a cereal bowl ($11), and six anemic mozzarella sticks ($10). I honestly think I could’ve gotten more robust mozzarella sticks at Trader Joe’s. And for much less. The items tasted all right - but just all right. For the extremely small portions and the gourmet prices, I expected much more for quality. All in all, we won’t be returning. In case it matters, I tipped around 20% for a total check of over $50.

That was *not great*. It felt like this was the first day the restaurant has ever been open. Host futzed around with the table plan for several minutes before even acknowledging our party. Despite that, we got seated pretty quickly. The waitress took our order in good time but messed it up... Twice... Failed to check back in during the meal, then when we finally got her to give us the cheque we were so ready to go that we wound up going to find her so we could pay and leave. The food was also not so great. The seafood was just 'meh,' and my lobster had such a massive amount of minced garlic all over it that I couldn't taste the lobster or sherry/drawn butter sauce. Disappointing flavor but a solid portion of meat. Unfortunately this is a definite 'no' for me. I'll battle the crowds next time for more flavorful food and better service.

Feb 2024 Review Again, this establishment knocked it out of the park. I ordered a meal that unfortunately wasn't as expected and the waitress took notice. She called over a man named Xavier and he wanted to remake the meal, so he did. The amazing part here is that when the waitress came over to ask if everything was okay (as waitstaff do) I didn't point out that it was not as expected. The waitress read me, and took initiative, and Xavier and the kitchen made things great. I can't recommend this place enough. It's truly amazing and service you'd expect at a much higher priced dining establishment. Phenomenal!!!!

First Review didn't know they close at 8. We walked in right at 8. They welcomed us, but did ask that we order right away because the kitchen closes.

We ordered, the food came, it was delicious and fairly priced. I didn't expect it to be as good as it was, and truly appreciated their accommodating us.

BTW the trolly driver lady recommended the establishment, and when we arrived, we asked folks that were leaving if it was good food and they said "yes, very good".

So there you have it, last minute diners, random people in the parking lot, and a local trolly driver agree, this place is great!

We'll go back...

We have eaten here for eight years. When Mike was the owner, the food was always delicious, fresh, well- prepared and perfectly cooked. The freshness, quality and preparation was a standout from other seafood restaurants. Staff was friendly, happy, and helpful. None of this occurred the last time we are here and did not occur today. This evening, the woman who took our order was curt and annoyed. The restaurant was not busy and it was 7:00 p.m. My husband always orders the fish and chips.Instead of the perfectly cooked, light golden battered fish he always looked forward to, tonight it was old, dry, and the batter was coarse, chewy, and definitely overcooked and dark brown. I ordered the chicken tenders for the first time. They were also breaded with the same coarse, dark brown, chewy batter, The chicken tenders - small, dry, and a meager portion - were not tender at all and had no taste. I chose rice and pasta salad as the sides. Both were as tasteless as the chicken tenders. This restaurant is not the same. Bring back Mike, the original owner! Until he comes back, we will not be returning to, or recommending, ...
