Spinnakers Restaurant — Restaurant in Wells

I have been coming to this spot every year for at least a Decade. I first started patronizing when it was called " Jakes. " I know I am not reviewing Jakes but an all new establishment. I have literally nothing BAD to say. I just feel that when the new owner opened Spinnakers, the prices went up. Every year I come back and the prices have kind of gone through the roof. If you get an individual " Platter " of say, fried shrimp or haddock or clams, it is high but the food is delicious and warrants that. The food really is outstanding! BUT, when you get say a Haddock and Shrimp Platter ( a " Combo " ), they give you smaller portions of fish and shrimp but raise the price to like $32.00 a basket. Yes, the food is served in those baskets......a Combo gets your choice of Fried Seafood, Fries, A small container of Cole Slaw and a Square of Blueberry Cornbread. The food really IS exceptional but I think next year I will skip Spinnakers personally, prices have risen every year and this year, it was at that point where it was over the top. Our party of five ate here for early dinner after being at the beach all day. It was our first time here, and we chose to dine inside the dining room.

I expected it to be crowded, but it was pleasantly open and we had our choice of tables. All tables sat plenty of people. The restaurant was setup well for ordering, and they had a separate gluten free menu. They also have a separate gluten free KITCHEN. They verified it being GF several times, from ordering to service. Everything on the tray was marked GF as well.

We tried the fried whole clams, fried clam strips, and haddock sandwich. The fresh cut fries came with our boxes. Everyone loved their own meals, and had fun trying everyone else's!

The restroom was VERY CLEAN! My stepson commented that it was top tier, and I had to agree! It smelled good, and I even washed my face in there comfortably.

Every employee was kind, and seemed to be stress-free! They played good music the whole time, and everyone enjoyed it. Nobody came to "bother us" while we were eating, and leaving was a breeze!

I would absolutely come back...

Fantastic meal! We went to another establishment up the street based on friends recommendations, they had a 45 minute wait JUST to be seated and it was CROWDED. My husband and I are GF, we had seen this restaurant several times when we’ve been to the area but never tried it til tonight. When we pulled in the lot was full. It took us 5 minutes in line and we weren’t sitting inside for no more than 10 minutes before our buzzers went off. The food was HOT, fresh cut fries, dedicated GF fryer, breaded and fried GF clam strips for hubs and he was basically drooling and can’t wait to go back. I got GF chicken tenders and they were so crispy and tasty. Our daughter got and enjoyed the chicken Caesar salad and some fries, she’s the biggest critic and was content with her meal.
