I’m currently staying in a suite for 9 days because of my husband’s medical training happening in the area. This hotel is horribly managed. The housekeeping is non existent because there’s around 300 rooms and probably understaffed. I do think they need better prioritization. Maybe instead of staffing so much of the front desk (who are nice, but not reliable) that end up twiddling their thumbs, invest in housekeeping which is the PRIMARY source of comfort for all guests.
I should have known it was going to be bad on the first evening I went up to the room and saw bags and bags of trash right by the elevators. Today was a similar sight. I do not blame the guests because I had housekeeping scheduled 4 days ago and they have yet to vacuum my room and change our towels despite requesting it. We are not very messy, but having two people eating in the hotel in between shifts and visits mean we accumulate a lot of food trash, crumbs, and hair.
The fridge is also disgusting. They did not defrost and clean is despite previous guests’ exploded coke in the freezer so now we can’t even use that part.
Additionally, they did not have our rooms ready for check in until an hour after the check in time. Imagine flying hours and hours and commuting to get here, only to have to wait even longer
They promised housekeeping to be scheduled multiple days since my first request, and today was the last straw. For some reason they ended up just dumping a vacuum cleaner in our room but not even replacing or take out the trash. If you’re expecting any service, I’d stay at a different hotel chain for the price they charge. There are so many better options. I’m not sure how this place could be rated 3 stars. The breakfast is also lackluster since the fruit is always overripe and eggs are overcooked. If you’re traveling for business, know that you will be expected to chase down the materials you need to clean your own room.
Also, the staff room is in the 8th floor and they consistently SLAM that door often. They are so noisy and were the only ones doing so. The guests were actually pretty good during our stay. You would think management would uphold the key tenets of hospitality and understand that their guests are trying to get rest and comfort since we are so far away from home.
Only plus is that the blue and pink lines for CTA are walkable and that it’s located in the medical district. It does take a sweltering walk to the restaurants to pick up food, so keep that in mind if you’re booking for the summer. But I’d honestly rather stay elsewhere. I can’t wait til we leave...
Read moreFirst off let me say I like Hyatt hotels as a whole, but this one is TRASH! I say that because when we got there we parked in the parking lot of the hotel that is labeled for the hotel, we did notice there was a security guy walking around checking car windows, didn’t think much about it. So upon check in, we were greeted by a young lady named Ulani who was nice, and talkative while getting us checked in. that was all all well and good however, once we got upstairs to our room, which was clean and nice looked like the pics online, we thought about the security guy again. So we called down to the front desk to ask just to be on the safe side and were told by Ulani, that we needed to move our car and go park next door at the hospital parking garage and walk back which she said was a “2 min walk” are you kidding me? We paid damn near $300 for ONE night and could park onsite. So we moved and had to find visitor parking at the hospital which took us a good 30 minutes to walk back, and mind you I asked is there a shuttle or anything, she told us “no” and that they recently did a renovation and it left them with only 90 parking spaces. That is ridiculous especially when you have a hotel that holds well over that number of rooms. I was so mad when we got back that I just didn’t say anything and went to bed. The next morning at check out I asked to speak to the manager and was told he was not in on the weekend and explained to the guy that was at the front desk who had “supervisor” on his name tag (can’t remember his name) and he had a smirk on his face while listening which further pissed me off bc there was NOTHING funny about this situation and he told me that there were parking passes that could’ve been purchased. Well why in the hell were we NOT told about this by Ulani? His response was she’s “new” I could care less about that, new or not that’s something that needs to be mentioned when guests are checking in especially when you know you don’t offer a shuttle and that more thank likely guests will be driving. Still haven’t heard from the manager and it’s been a WEEK today. So all in all, do I recommend this location?...
Read moreMy initial stay at the Hyatt Hotel in Chicago’s Medical District was ok. However, I’m writing this review to warn people that this Hyatt locations steels people’s money. Specifically, their security deposit. That’s right. When I initially stayed here back on or around the January 20th, 2024 for one night, they wanted me to pay a $70 refundable fee for the room. I thought it made sense so I paid the fee. Fast forward literally one month later and they still haven’t issued me said refund for the $70 refundable deposit.
It's now February 17th, and I stayed for a second time, which was during the federal holiday. Plus, I had some business to take care of, so the Hyatt was my closest option. Never have I faced discrimination from a Hyatt employee until now! I checked into the Hyatt Hotel in the Medical district in Chicago around 2:48pm. It’s located just a few blocks from the University of Chicago (UIC). Anyway, when I got there, I was greeted by a gentleman who sounded like he was gay, but that’s me just speculating. He remembered me from my previous stay and asked for me to make another deposit. I explained to him that the Hyatt never refunded me for my initial $70 deposit that I paid back on January 20th. Furthermore, when I asked if someone would be kind enough to escort me to my room, the male person behind the front desk assumed I was completely blind. He called the same individual who escorted me to my room last time. However, while he was on the phone with this person, he deliberately said out loud, “It’s that blind person again”. While I do have a visual impairment (similar to someone who’s near sighted/ Myopic), I can still see, and to hear someone make a comment like that was complete and utter discrimination.
Since the job of a manager and subsequently, the HR department is to hire and properly train their employees, it’s clear that this Hyatt location allows their employees, especially those who may or may not belong to the LGBTQ, to discriminate against those with visual impairments, and even those who’re...
