I am so happy I found this charming hotel located by Rush Medical center! First of all I was in a tight crunch to find a pet friendly boutique hotel and check in here with my dog and cat was a breeze! In fact the gentleman who helped me check in had someone else help me with all my belongings so the cab driver would not overcharge me too much. At first I was shown a real small room that I knew might not be a good fit for my huge mountain dog so the front desk manager let me use the handicap room since it was a lot more spacious for my pup. Honestly all the pet friendly rooms will be on the teeny tiny side because only the first floor will allow animals and the upper floors which have larger rooms (slightly) are for people without pets since people have allergies. While you are here take full advantage of the 10 percent discount at the Tavern directly across the street and at Angels which is just around the corner and extremely close. I only regret that no one informed me that I could receive a 10 percent discount at Angels so maybe upon checking in the front desk can mention BOTH dining out options. The location is great because there are so many great eateries, bakeries, grocery stores and pet shop in the West loop and in Greektown all within walking distance of this cute hotel. Another benefit of being here is the staff is young, upbeat, personable and very helpful. On the downside this hotel is not completely savvy with anyone who has pets and who requires extended stays. My room was not cleaned or freshened up daily and that was hard on me because I do suffer from sinus issues and allergies. It would have been great if I could have had the floor sweeped and my bed changed daily but this did not happen. The bed I slept in was comfortable but very a small full sized bed and the pillows way too hard for my liking. Another issue that was hard for me to handle was the fact that right behind my room there is a stairwell and people staying at the hotel were going up and down the stairs and shouting quite a bit so the door would slam really loudly day and night. There is no chair and desk for your computer in the handicap room just a small table that pulls out for you. The decor here is modern and quite comfortable but to me the pillows were a bit hard since i prefer a softer feather pillow. The other problem here is the hotel itself is NOT sound proof at all so you hear people upstairs stomping in their rooms, you hear guests screaming and you hear housekeeping laughing pretty early in the morning. If sounds do not bother you you won't mind a bit. Like I said the location is great and you only have to take a train or a taxi to get downtown in less than fifteen minutes. The hotel is a great value but the rooms are very tiny so you have to compromise. On two separate occasions warm belly cookies were served to the guests and that was truly sweet! This hotel has a charming and happy vibe but very very noisy so you have pros and cons. Another pro though is my room had a window I could open up wide for fresh air so this was perfect for me! Great hotel, great price but honestly noisy and housekeeping needs to improve. If you have pets there is a small pet fee upon check in but if you own a huge dog you will need to take long walks as the rooms...
Read moreTrust me on this. I'm a contractor and I stay here for work every week. I know everything about this place and have stayed in at least 10 different rooms. Do not stay here if you have a choice.
All of the rooms have the most horrificly uncomfortable pillows I've ever felt. They are stuffed with very hard, large balls of cotton. I now travel with a camping pillow which is also uncomfortable but I can at least sleep through the night. The mattresses are not nice and the sheets/pillowcases are low quality and scratchy, for the most part. I have stayed in at least 100 hotels in the last decade and I've never been this uncomfortable or struggled to fall/stay asleep.
The worst part about most of the rooms is how dirty they are. The cleaning staff does not clean the floors between guests or the showers. Most of the shower drains have had hair in them and the floors are quite dirty and the dirt gets easily tracked onto the bed. Further, almost all of the rooms have significant damage to furniture, many scuffs on the walls, uneven floors. This is not even mentioning how poorly the rooms are designed and how small they are. For some reason, the rooms have a full size refrigerator even though they are extremely small.
I have killed many bugs since I have been staying here. All different kinds but mostly spiders and a few centipedes. I'm not too scared of bugs but it's worth mentioning since I figured it might be more critical for some to know.
The walls and ceilings are paper thin and you literally hear everything. Plus there are no carpets. If the person above you walks, you hear very loud creaking as if they weigh 800 pounds. Trust me. I'm not kidding. Luckily this can be avoided by staying on the top floor, if you can.
Several times I've stayed here the internet and/or cable have been out for extended periods.
One night the owner and his buddies were visiting. They parked their Ferraris and Lamborghinis out front for a while. Must be a capitalist.
I can go on.
I really have no idea how people are leaving such glowing reviews. In reading them, it doesn't seem as if they've actually been here or stayed here. Perhaps they are friends or relatives or they were edited in exchange for something. Honestly that's all I can think of.
I rarely complain about anything but I figured this was a public service since the reviews are so clearly fabricated for this place. If you read this and still decide to stay here, you'll find out the same things...
Read moreI had made a reservation through their website a month in advance for a room. After making the reservation, I never got a confirmation- only a link to check into the room that did not include any date for my reservation. When I showed up at the hotel a month later, they did not have my reservation and after 10 minutes of going back and forth with the man at the counter, we discovered that by mistake I had made my reservation for the day I had booked it, not a month out. I never realized I had made the mistake because like I said, I got no confirmation email, no call from the hotel, and nothing in my email included the date or else I would have called to cancel and reschedule. I ended up buying another room that night that was more expensive than my initial booking. The man told us to talk to the manager in the morning for a refund. While in the lobby the next morning, the manager, Abraham, was helping another customer with the same issue that we had and told them to come back down the next morning for them to discuss a refund. I was in a hurry to leave the hotel, so I couldn’t wait to be helped. I called the hotel about an hour later, and the woman who answered the phone was very disrespectful to me on the phone and gave me so much attitude when I was just trying to find a solution. I was directed to leave him a voicemail for him to get back to me. He never called me back, so I called again and he basically told me he needed by boyfriend to call since the initial reservation was under his name. My boyfriend has been calling at least once a week for the last month since we were at this hotel to get reimbursed for a room WE DID NOT EVEN STAY IN and nobody has returned our calls or tried to fix the situation. I understand they are a business and trying to make money and it is my fault that I booked the hotel for the wrong day, but it was an honest mistake, I was never notified about my error, and had NO way of realizing I had booked it for the wrong day since the email I received had no date on it (only a check in link), I’m very disappointed with the lack of customer service and accommodation I have...
