When selecting our wedding venue, one of the first things we did was call the Best Western-Inn at Hunt’s Landing, to reserve our block of rooms. We had stayed here for a wedding before and were just thrilled with the homey feel, service throughout all areas, etc. We had the highest of hopes and confidently chose it with no doubts in our mind. We wanted this to be the “home base” with many guests coming from out of town, whom we knew would spend the weekend there. We almost immediately set up our rehearsal dinner as well, as we wanted to keep this intimate feel throughout the weekend where our guests could really relax and enjoy the company of each other. We began to have problems when guests told us they had tried to call and were told they’d have to book a two night minimum stay to get the special “wedding rate”. I immediately reviewed my contract which did not state anything about a 2 night minimum stay. This instantly did not make sense as we had only blocked off 10 rooms for Friday and 30 rooms for Saturday. Wouldn’t it have been suggested that 30 rooms for both nights be blocked off if that was the only way to get the special rate? When I spoke with our truly lovely sales person, Susan about this issue, she did let me know that this was not something she agreed with but that the weekend had been reviewed and accounting had since changed the minimum to two nights. She agreed that this was not what was in our contract. Susan assured me she would somehow have it taken care of. After our invitations went out I had way too many guests contacting me about issues they had had when they contacted the Best Western to book their room for their lovely night away. They were continually told the wrong information (that two nights was required). It was also suggested by the sales person that I could just direct my guests to her phone so that she could set up their reservations. After spending $1000 on invitations now I would be expected to contact all of my guests to tell them to call a different number? Guests were also told by the front desk that they’d look into it and get back to them… never receiving a call back. The icing on the cake was when multiple guests called and were told there were no rooms with “two beds” in them. Meaning any couples trying to share a room would now have to get two rooms. When I brought this concern up to Susan she again confirmed, that information was not true and there were plenty of other rooms with two beds. It is important to note that on the weekend of the wedding, everything went “okay” with the Best Western. Zorianna and Susan were both beyond wonderful, helpful, and gracious. It was very clear to me that any and all issues were beyond them. As the bride, I was disappointed with my room. My hair and makeup artists came to the hotel on the morning of and almost fainted when they came into our room. Our light fixtures were all broken and they described getting ready in our room “like getting ready in a dungeon”. Disappointing. It was very clear to me what the hotel was doing and I am absolutely disgusted when I look back at it. After all of the rooms booked and rehearsal dinner that we planned, we brought the hotel almost $10,000 worth of business that weekend. I live 6 hours away although I am originally from the area. Every single vendor has been absolutely spectacular for my wedding: florist, DJ, photographer, Mountain View Manor. The ONLY problem we had from almost start to finish was the Best Western. I will never again visit a Best Western and I certainly will never suggest any of my friends or family use it for anything important in their lives. I also will be contacting Mountain View Manor to suggest they not consider you as a “preferred vendor” in the future if they want happy brides. They surely will be very grateful that the beautiful Hampton Inn is nearby. PS- the food...
Read more95% of the experience was pretty bad almost laughable. My wife wasn't laughing at all but it was just so ridiculous one thing after the other in the first ten minutes of the first room they gave us. We walk in they spent a little money in the lobby so you think the place is going to be ok. lol we got a two bed room right off the bat the flange was leaking a river of water on the bathroom floor from the toilet tank. Then I went to sit on one of the beds to call the front desk about the toilet and the front corner of the queen bed hit the floor because one of the legs were gone so it made the back other side of the bed go up off the ground and in the air about 4 ft. The repair guy came really fast but while we were waiting for him to come we tried the TV and that was broken. Then as the repair guy and the head lady from the front desk were talking outside of our room to try to find us another room three other rooms have been fixed with new toilets and they all leaked. They finally got us a new room with the beds that weren't broken a TV that works and a bathroom toilet that didn't leak. But then their drop ceiling was filthy and I used a white hand towel to wipe water up off the floor and it came up black with dirt not that I was really surprised but it was pretty filthy. The hotel was basically maybe an eighth full of people and the hotel across the street that was a Hampton inn by Hilton was packed full so obviously all those people knew what we didn't. So it's probably definitely worth it to pay the extra $20 to stay at the Hampton inn across the street. the only good thing about the place and trust me they didn't spend a dime on any of the rooms inside they only spent money on their lobby the only good thing about the place was its breakfast aside from the 2 inches of dust on all the machinery it was probably the best breakfast I've ever had at any hotel for free. And like I said all the people that work there were very nice except for one lady we talked to on the phone a few days prior to booking the room she was definitely a rude cranky lady and she definitely hates her job obviously. But the best thing was is that the new room that we got that had a toilet that ended up not worked it was clogged and I had to ask for a 30-year-old plunger from the front desk and plunge the toilet myself when none of us had put anything in it yet so all in all it was a pretty bad experience I would definitely not recommend it to anybody and I will chalk it up to one of the worst places...
Read moreBest Western Hunt's Landing HotelThere’s a lot to like about this rather aging but still appealing Indian-owned hotel, very close to I-84. The exterior property was lovely, and the first-floor conference areas and cool-looking steakhouse (was it still open?) signaled that this might be a good place to hold a company event.||The desk clerk's greeting was cordial and, because I'm a BW awards member, I was offered my choice of beverage from the cooler ... nice. That warmth was chilled somewhat by the frightening desk sign, warning that unreported pets in this “pet-friendly” property would result in a $100 fee. Unnecessary. Then, as now, in my traveling experience, Indians running motels rely on pet fees as a way to pad the bill. In the way-back times, they were downright hostile to us. Please note: "Our kids have paws."||While the room was well-equipped and clean – save the fact that I was left only 1/3 of a roll of toilet paper to use -- the decor was average. The price I paid was not -- $168.73, all in, high for this area. But I had splurged for an in-spa room, and that's when things started to backslide. The hot tub had no handle grips, no soap, shampoo or conditioner. I used the flimsy bath towels from the bathroom; there were at least large and small bars of soap in there to use for the bath. Whining aside ... wow, that was the best bath I've had in ... well, the last time I booked a Best Western in-spa room.||I'm guessing this hotel was considered an old gem in its day. But investment in its upkeep is waning. The old-style toilet in the room was having trouble flushing, and while the lamps had plenty of 110v plugs there were no USB power interfaces anywhere (note to travelers: be sure to have a stash of USB-to-110v in your bag). The breakfast started early, 6 a.m. but, in keeping with the theme, the offerings were average (and those powdered eggs taste like ... powder). The nearby restrooms, down a darkened hall, looked almost glamorous – until you noticed the hand towels were in the form of big paper rolls left haphazardly by the sinks.||Travelers looking for a quick, reliable overnight should be very satisfied staying here. That said, my four-star rating feels rather like a gift. If you’re going to be staying in the area for a while longer, I’d shop around....
