I look forward to visiting the gym! Fitness has always been enjoyable, but this makes it even more enjoyable. The patrons are not worried about what other people are doing, creating a judgement-free zone where nobody has to feel bad about themselves. Everyone has one common goal: getting in shape and improving. There's no time to sit and judge people because everyone is pre-occupied with the goal.
The showers are fantastic, though I wouldn't argue if the facility decided to put seats in the changing area so there's a place for your change of clothes once you get out of the shower.
There's plenty of equipment with calibrations for every body type to give you the best workout experience. The patrons always wipe down the equipment with the available sanitizer, so you can be sure that the equipment is cleaned each use. The facility is always room temperature, so I recommend wearing a light jacket until you warm up, but it's perfect once you get started.
Now, the staff. I found them helpful and friendly, though I was encouraged to get the black-card at least four times in the course of signing up. I understand the marketing technique, but it was slightly smothering. This doesn't reflect on the staff as much as the corporation itself. After all, the workers are only doing their job. As for signing up, it took about 30-40 minutes, but that was mainly spent being informed of rules, opportunities, and more chat about the black-card. They will take your picture, though, so make sure you're comfortable with how you look when you sign up. Every time I've gone in and the workers are at the counter, they always look up, smile, and wave.
Each time you sign in, you get points toward perks, which is essentially merchandise such as drinks, coupons on clothing, or a month's dues. I think it would be neat if patrons got points based on what equipment they used and how hard they worked on it, but I'm sure there's a reason why this isn't a thing, so I...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe new and very clean PA location is extraordinary well laid out. The change area four times bigger than the Port Jervis (PJ) location, thus allowing me to change without ābumping buttsā with others while getting cleaned up. The changing booths are excellent. All the showers are spacious ā and work. Only two out the three showers did in PJ for years ā and one even had had the hot/cold plumbing reversed!? The very well maintained āpurpleā machines (LifeFitness) were (re)installed, which are standard in most, but not all PFs. The two hybrid standing tanning booths were kept as well. I, unfortunately, pay $15 each month extra over the basic rate in order to tan twice a week for 4 minutes only. ļ The Black Card rate has gone from $20 to $23 to now $25 per month ā yet the basic rate stays at $10. A bit unbalanced Iād sayā¦
The one change that really sucks, however, is that the gym does no open until 5:00 on Monday (instead of 12:00am like in PJ). There is absolutely no way I can make to work on time starting that late. Although I work out two days a week at home (LifeCycle, bench, and 2.5-50lb dumbbells), I was use to going to PF on Monday and Thursday. If it were to snow on Monday in the winter, I was able to shift my schedule to Tuesday and Friday. Now I will be screwed if there is snow on a Tuesday or Friday. I do not like to miss even a single workout. It is about...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe only affordable gym in the area. Between 430-6 am it's pretty empty. What grosses me out is at least 85-90% of the people DON'T wipe the equipment after they use it especially the guys. Aside from not wanting to share your sweat I also don't want to share your germs especially during flu season. It's not difficult to wipe, paper towels and cleaner are provided and it's everywhere. Just be courteous.
The over night staff? Non existent. He's too busy on his phone to pay attention to the clients. Doesn't greet you at the desk or anywhere for that matter when you come in. His earphones are on and his head buried in his phone sitting by the tanning booths or plugged in to an outlet by the window where you can see people parking to come in. There's always a mop and bucket or vacuum forgotten in a corner sometimes at the top of the stairs and he's busy on his phone. Not the first impression I would want for my business.
Mimi on the other hand comes in around 530-6 am always says hello always has a smile and immediately sets to work. She starts turning off all the TV's which in my opinion should have been done by the late nite guy since they were on since at least 430. Straightens up the locker room etc. She even fixes the log in errors made by the late nite guy. Shows team work. Mimi is definitely a...
