Perkins American Food Co. — Restaurant in Westfall Township

A good meal, good portion size, at a decent price.

Where i am from, we don't have Perkins Restaurants. The closest we have to them is Denny's, and after trying Perkins, it is now my preference.

I went to Perkins when i was on the road travelling through the area looking for a decent meal that was relatively quick. I ordered a steak skillet. It came out pretty fast and was very big and hot. While it was nothing groundbreaking, just a standard diner-chain meal, i definitely have no complaints about it. It was very good. The steak was cooked nicely, not overdone, and the onions, peppers, and mushrooms were also cooked just enough to caramelize without being burnt. The only real thing that could be improved was the beef gravy, which was standard, average, pre-made gravy, which isn't a bad thing, and was exactly what I had expected it to be.

The only real reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because the restaurant had a strange odor, not food related, but not particularly offensive. It could have possibly been due to a spill on the carpet that wasn't quite dry yet or a floor had recently been mopped or something similar. Also the booth was rather spongy and worn out. Overall, the food was good, and those were minor negatives, that were most likely just the one particular booth, and really shouldn't take much away from going here. First the upside to this restaurant! It is in a great location and the selection is great and the restaurant is clean and well landscaped. The great plates menu is much appreciated as it allows you to get a bite without having to spend a lot. In the past I rated it four or five stars but as you can see below our last experience was not up to the usual level at this Perkins. Based on our last experience I'm having to down rate Perkins to 3 stars. My wife ordered the chicken parm and ask for a little extra pasta. In the past this is only been a $0.99 up charge. When we got the ticket this time, they had charged her for a order of mac and cheese totaling $3.49. When I brought the air up to the manager slash person at the till they said well that's because you ordered extra pasta. When my wife and I said that we thought that that was a bit much for a small additional amount of spaghetti he did downsize the charge to $0.99. But I don't feel that it should have been added in the first place. We are semi regular customers at this particular location and we're very disappointed in this extravagant up- charge. My wife and I are both disabled and our income is very tight, so things like this really cut into the budget. I ordered an apple juice and there were little white things floating in it so I asked the waitress for another one and you would have thought she would have looked at it before bringing it to the table but she didn't and the second one also had the same stuff floating in it. I was hesitant to drink it and normally if I was eating with someone who wasn't inpatient I would have sent it back and asked for something else but I just drank it and it was very watered down. We ordered the fried crep things in starwberry and they were cold and basically tasted like a toaster strudels. My roommate orderd the beef stew with green beans and mashed potatoes and his food was cold and the bacon green beans were very mushy and watery with a very artificial smoky flavor. I ordered the blueberry pancakes with scrambled eggs and bacon and my food was cold as well. I asked for a to go container for my pancakes and she gave me such a small container I had to squish and fold the pancake in just to get the container closed. I will not be returning to this location to eat again. They did however sing happy birthday to my roommate but when I asked the waitress to the look on her face was like she didn't believe me and they brought him out a stale looking piece of apple pie but I really don't...
