The ROACH HOTEL My husband and I stayed the 12th - the 15th of July. As soon as we got in our room and sat down our bags to inspect the place, we found a live adult size roach crawling around on the bathroom floor. I was super disgusted seeing it and watching my husband chase and kill it before flushing down the commode. I tried to phone downstairs to the lobby immediately but no one answered the phone. Probably good thing they didn't. My husband took a picture of it with his phone and we both went downstairs to share what we had found with staff. On the ride down the elevator we agreed I was too upset to speak with the staff (it wouldn't have been pretty) so when we arrived down to the lobby and my husband stopped at the front desk, I continued outside of the hotel to smoke. I watched through the glass doors as my husband spoke with the front desk help. I saw him showing the picture he'd captured. As my husband reports, the staff with whom he spoke said she'd be sure to report the matter to the manager and that we'd perhaps be compensated with rewards points. (Of course, that never happened.) Then, just when his conversation appeared to end with the staff, he motioned me inside. As I entered into the lobby, my husband said lightly, "Look down". And there, just a few feet away from the front desk was a dead adult sized roach. It looked as if perhaps the staff member my husband had just spoken with had just killed it and hadn't had time to dispose of it before my husband approached the desk.
The next morning, we encountered the manager in the lobby. Still quite disgusted, but in a better frame of mind than upon first seeing the pests, my husband and I explained that we took great care as to discreetly address the matter with the staff the previous day - as not to potentially cause a disruption to other guests. This although I wanted to tell them because I thought they may want to know that the free breakfast may have been contaminated by roaches or roach droppings. And, though I was still disgusted by knowing that roaches might be crawling in our bags or in the bed and on us while we slept, I kept my composure. I just didn't eat breakfast there. (An expense we thought we would not have to incur).
The manage with whom we spoke was apologetic and offered to move us to a different room. She said she believed it was the rain that had caused the roaches to take residence in the hotel. As I explained to her that we saw spilled french fries in the elevator for the greater part of the day and night the day before that it could be that the hotel wasn't being well kept. She explained they don't have night staff to keep the hotel clean and that she picked the fries up as soon as she got in to work that morning.
On July 17th, I phone corporate office to report how uncomfortable our stay with the roaches had been. Perhaps they aren't aware of what's going on there I thought. The young lady I spoke on the first call seem as shocked and disgusted with the situation as I. She said I would be hearing from someone in 3 or fewer days. I had not. On the 22nd, I sent an email to the corporate office via guest relations advising that I had not received a call. The following day, I received a response that said the matter had been referred to the Roach Hotel and someone from there would be in contact with me via my preferred source of contact. To date, I have heard nothing.

Read moreI would give this place higher marks. I'll explain later. The rooms are nice. I prefer the ones in the back overlooking the Coosa River and Gold Star Park. You get no traffic noise that way. A Dairy Queen is on one side of the motel for treats, and the Wetumpka Police Department is on the other side for safety. The front desk staff is usually very nice, but they can also be very busy, even to the point of being overwhelmed. The included breakfast is the real deal. It's not just a bowl of cereal and toast. It's usually fresh waffles you can make yourself, fresh fruit, thin-stringy bacon or sausage, and then some sort of egg dish. Of course there's grits since this is the heart of the deep south. I give lower points because of the doors to the rooms and the cleaning staff. The doors to the rooms have heavy springs installed which force the door closed. You have to get creative to wedge the door open. Most people aren't bright enough or considerate enough to hold the door as its closing so it won't slam. When the cleaning crew is on your floor, it's a cacophony of loud door slamming, which goes on for around an hour while they go from room to room, cleaning. Also they communicate with each other by yelling. I understand they're probably over-worked and under-paid. But they act as if they're entitled to disturb everyone in the motel when they're cleaning. Fortunately they don't clean in the middle of the night, so you should be able to have enough peace and quiet to sleep. But if you're trying to sleep in the middle of the day for some reason, like after you've been driving 12 hours or something, you may have a problem. The beds are firm and pretty comfortable, but will likely be a little lumpy. The WiFi is very strong and fast, and they have a dedicated connection available for anyone needing to VPN to their office remotely. The WiFi credentials are your room number and last name, so it's also fairly secure. This is a better alternative to their other nearby location on Cobbs Ford Rd. in Prattville, which overlooks I-65. The Wetumpka location doesn't feel as soulless and urban sprawl as the Prattville location, and it's not right on a busy...
