To my surprise, this hotel was under total refinishing renovation. When I checked in, I was first assigned room #110, which had all the furniture piled in the center of the room and had the odor of fresh paint. I went back to the Front Desk and was assigned another room on the 2nd floor, Rm #205.
Upon entry, the carpet first appeared to not have been vacuumed for some time. As it turned out, what I was seeing was paint spray residue from painting the walls. I later found paint spray and drips on the drapes, the bed valance, phone, clock, bathroom door, mirror and the luggage and clothes racks. most of which could be removed from all hard surfaces with a little soft-scrub.
The clothing hook on the back of the bathroom door was missing, but the mount was there. The light switch cover plate had screws hanging loose and the faceplate for the outlet over the bathroom sink was missing.
The mirror frame over the sink was smudged with paint and the full-length mirror on the door was mounted poorly. Some of the stays did not even touch the mirror. Only the weight of the mirror held it in place, but not securely. Additionally, the toilet seat was not secured to the toilet bowl. All of this punch list was reported to the front desk in writing over 2 days.
All of the staff was considerate and addressed the switch plate issues, the toilet seat and the missing clothes hook. as soon as they were reported. As for the rest, this could not be addressed, as it appears that it looked like I was 1 of 3, or 4 guests at the hotel and the room options were rather limited.
The room was clean, but with the paint spray and drips on almost every surface, it did not provide a good feeling.
The strategy used in this project was poorly planned and executed. There also appeared to be no effort to do a punch list to qualify a room for release to a Guest.
Additionally, in the hallway. there was a large section of wallpaper peeling off the wall under the window. It would not take much effort to glue it back in place to at least show that someone cared.
If carpeting is to be scheduled all at once, it should be done one floor at a time. Providing for protection of the existing carpet during the painting phase would allow for better control and smoother transition during the makeover. This would also allow a more pleasant experience for the Guest and make it easier for the staff.
I hope this is helpful and that careful consideration is made for any other scheduled efforts for this makeover. This experience was rather disappointing, to say the least. Unfortunately, my stay was at the wrong time. I know it would have been better had I booked after the job was completed, as the staff tried to do all they could within...
Read moreI was not invited to leave a guest satisfaction review on the Choice Hotels website, so I'm leaving this here. It's not a 5 star hotel for a reason. The desk clerk at check in was very friendly, but she did not program our keys for the correct length of time and they kicked off the following day as we came back to our room after a long, hot day. We were not given the code for the wifi. I called down to ask for it and he gave us the incorrect code. I dealt with the same desk clerk to get our keys reprogrammed and he acted both times like I was an inconvenience to him. No one is ever at the front desk. As a matter of fact, there is a phone on the counter with a sign to dial 300 if a front desk clerk is needed. I feel like that's highly unprofessional, especially because most of the time they were in a room just off of the front desk with a TV going. I'm a desk clerk myself, and I'm never away from the front desk unless I have to be.
The stairwell farthest away from the lobby smelled heavily of cigarette smoke. On the second night, the stairwell closest to the lobby and the hallway outside of our room on the second floor smelled heavily of pot smoke. The carpeting in both stairwells are in need of a good shampooing.
We went down to breakfast on the first morning, and that was the only time we bothered to go. Everything we ate was stale and it was obvious that no one was keeping food stocked. Only half of the toaster works. Don't know who the breakfast attendant was as we never saw one.
This hotel does not have automatic doors. The property is not well kept, and I'm not entirely sure how they manage to pass an inspection. Our room was clean and smelled okay, but many thing were in disrepair. There was a thin crack in the wall from the ceiling to the nightstand. Half of the electrical outlet by the desk works. The air conditioner wasn't putting out any air. Seeing as how we stayed during the hottest part of the year, that's not a good thing. I pulled the filters out of the unit and they were filthy. No wonder it wasn't putting out air. There was a hole in the tub. There was some spots that weren't sealed at all, so good luck preventing water damage. It looks like whoever painted the bathroom flung paint on the back of the bathroom door.
If I had paid more for this room, I would have been livid. It's definitely not worth...
Read moreOur employees were booked to stay here in a NON-SMOKONG room, upon checking in the clerk was rude and unprofessional. After checking in, when entering the room, the smoke smell was overpowering. Both employees were exhausted and wanted to shower after a hard days work. After showering the steam/moisture stirred up the smoke stench even more and asthma related issues were becoming problematic so they went down to ask if they can have a non-smoking room. The same rude clerk on duty informed them that this wasn’t the Marriott, she doesn’t have another room available and offered a aerosol spray can to mask the stench. She did offer that they were in the process of changing a SMOKING hotel to a non-smoking hotel and that she has asked the owner several times to get plug-ins to help. As we all know smoke lies in the walls, mattresses, drapes, carpet and simply not smoking in the room after being smoked in for years does not change the fact it is a smoking room and will remain such until items are replaced. The employee returned to the room very upset. We called and spoke to the ride clerk ourselves asking for another room and she barely let us get a word in but did say let her double check as they were showing several open rooms available on the choice app and said she would call the employee in their room to notify them. After waiting for 10 mins our employee walked down after realizing the phone did not work in their room and to his surprise only seemed to irritate the clerk further that he was not able to follow her instructions. He was given a key to another room very hesitantly and bothered and walked in that room to find the same issue. He called us and asked if we could book him another room somewhere else and we did. We called the clerk to tell her he would not be staying in the room and could we be refunded and she said absolutely not that they showered not only in the first room but had time to shower the second room as well and calm is within a matter of minutes. She said good luck trying to get a refund that she will call Choice Hotel first and make sure of that! Real...
