----Update 2/12/2020---- I am bumping this up because I got the chance to speak with Heidi, the owner, this morning and she has reassured me that the issue will be taken care of and the exterminator was on the way. I really appreciated the call from her and could tell that she was genuinely apologetic and wanted to fix the problem. I can tell that she puts a lot of care and thought into The River's Edge to make it such an enjoyable place for people to stay and honestly she was so nice and sincere that I would have changed it to 5 stars if it wasn't for this problem in the first place. She made me feel much better by not only refunding us but offering a gift certificate to give them another chance. I am still not sure if I will be back yet, but I think her gesture was really kind and generous and not expected, and if I do go back, it would be because of her stellar customer service.
----Written 2/10/2020---- I am actually pretty perplexed at writing this review with only 2 stars because of what an amazing weekend my boyfriend and I had in Winthrop. We loved the little town and the people especially. It was full of charm and beauty. Our stay at River's Edge Resort in Winthrop from 2/7-2/9 started off great, the cabin was as clean as a cabin could be, we had all the amenities we needed, and the hot tub to relax in at the end of the day was a A+. But I had to give River's Edge Resort a 2 star review, because I ended up with 31 (yes, I counted them all) bed bug bites. When I woke up on Saturday morning I had a few on my neck/ shoulder, elbow and back, and when I woke up Sunday morning that number greatly increased and by Monday I have 31 (though we checked out Sunday - this is due to the delay in swelling and itching that bed bug bites give their recipient due to the numbing agent in their saliva). When I told the front desk of my bed bug bites on Sunday during check out, I had around 10, and even showed her the ones on my neck. She had said no one has every complained about them before and this was the first of her hearing of this. She apologized and said that she would take care of it, and due to the rest of our great experience, I accepted and let it go. She clearly lied to me because I just looked at previous reviews and someone complained just 6 months ago about mites biting her and her child. This is why I decided to write a review as well. I stayed in cabin 14, so maybe it is only certain cabins that...
Read moreThis is a very fair review. I would give them a 3.5. Let’s first talk about the good.
Pros:
We stayed in the 2/3 bedroom cabin directly on the river. The cabin it’s self is big and roomy with a decently stocked kitchen, stove top, oven, sink, full size fridge and dishwasher. The lounge room has high ceilings with lots of windows facing the river. It’s private and beautiful.
The main bedroom down stairs is decently sized and the King bed was comfy. The bathroom on the main floor is standard and has a washer and dryer which is a plus.
Upstairs you have a loft style queen room with another room with two single beds. It’s perfect for children and or guest.
The whole cabin provides a comfy woodland feel that made the getaway that much more enjoyable.
The deck with the Hot tub is wonderful. The Hot tub it’s self is big and of good quality, better than expected.
Let’s talk about the ‘not so good’
Cons:
On some of the cabins the outside deck joins with the other cabin with only a small wooden picket style fence for privacy separation. This is a horrible design flaw. When your in your hot tub you can see your neighbors in theirs. Unfortunately our neighbors thought they had more privacy than they did which made an awkward evening.
For those who are not bashful the privacy is enough, but for those who prefer complete privacy you may end up feeling a little exposed when your neighbors decide to go on there back deck as well.
The gas fireplace is shut off and not accessible until late September. This is not specified in the booking site. Offering a gas fire place but yet not allowing it to be used is false advertisement and essentially robs the consumer of what they are paying for. The nights can get cold here, even in summer months and having a gas fire place is not only esthetically pleasing but it is also warm and enjoyable.
They have these stickers posted around the cabin telling you where the lights are etc. This is unnecessary and looks tacky. The note by the thermostat tells you to conserve energy by turning the thermostat down to 60 when you leave for a few hours. I work HVAC and this DOES NOT save energy but actually uses more. It only make the furnace work even harder to return to an ideal temperature when you return.
Conclusion:
The Cabins are a wonderful stay and you will have an enjoyable time! Some minor flaws that may only effect...
Read moreI’ve been staying at these cabins a few years in a row now for a spring tradition. Never had a problem until this year. I will not be staying again. I would have to agree with other reviewers that the customer service here is not good. Upon arrival their were a few things in which we chose to overlook and just enjoy the stay , (dryer wasn’t working, lights in bedroom flickered like a strobe light anytime the light was on, most the jets in the tub weren’t working, one of the burners on the stove didn’t work) minor details-like I said, that we chose to overlook because we love to stay here and didn’t want to raise a stink. However after leaving and spending a good amount of time cleaning and thinking we checked everything off the list, I was charged a $278 cleaning fee without a word, a week later. When I emailed them about this, because I had no clue what it could have been for, they replied it was for an extra cleaning fee, my first thought was “we couldn’t dry the towels after washing them, they must not have known the dryer was broken” , they stated they knew the dryer was broken before we stayed there but; we didn’t take the garbage from the front porch to the dumpster, the floor wasn’t swept, the cups had smears on them, the dishwasher wasn’t started, and the hot tub had to be drained. I’ve stayed in a lot of Airbnbs and places and never have I left a place unkept or messy, all garbage from inside the cabin was brought to the front porch garbage, the only 2 things I can honestly say weren’t done was bringing the can on the front porch to the dumpster and forgetting to start the dishwasher, (which was all loaded and the sink was clean) I definitely swept and wiped down surfaces. I felt this to be very unfair and want this to be known. I hate to leave such a bad review but for the next person, just be sure to take that garbage to the dumpster and don’t forget to start...
