Hotel Ayres Colonia — Hotel in Colonia del Sacramento

We were delighted with this newish hotel which was located within very easy walking distance of the ferry, even for me and my two adolescent children who were carrying luggage packs. We would have felt silly getting a cab. After reading the mediocre breakfast reviews, we were pleasantly surprised to wake to such a nice breakfast. By far the nicest we have had for quite awhile with yogurt, pieces of fruit, ham, cheese, cereal, hot cocoa, and even hot skim milk, in addition to all the typical cakes and sweets that we encountered in Argentina for breakfast. The breakfast attendant that Sunday morning kept an eye on the food and made sure plates at the buffet were full. I noticed that there was even a coordinating baby high chair in the cheerful breakfast room. Our triple room looked out on the first floor garden and was clean. We appreciated the conveniently engineered design with a small closet with shelves, convenient bedside tables and a two stool table. Even the bathroom was well thought out with a nice half wall in the bathing area, making it easy to reach soap and shampoo. The distance to the center of the historic town was ideal for us--we liked walking a bit (8-10 leisurely and interesting minutes at most) to reach the busy area and appreciated retreating in the evening away from the crowds. But, we were 3 minutes from the main street with lots of shops and restaurants. Bikes were for rent down the street. One point: bring your license if you want to zip around in a golf cart. As we are traveling for three months, mostly by bus, I did not as it would have been a hassle to lose. We were disappointed not to be able to rent a golf cart as, per hour, it was about the same cost as leasing three bicycles. Prepare to bring your own shampoo and conditioners. The rooms were good in general but some aspects could have been improved. There was a paint stain on the bathroom mirror and the toilet seat was quite old. Breakfast was ok, don't expect anything otherworldly. We had to ask the staff to change our bed sheets the second day as we were supposed to tell them when we had left the room so they could clean it, only the never told us to notify them in the first place! I think the location is the best quality this facility has to offer (and don't get me wrong, the location is perfect. Close to the main station and the historic centre, walking distance to everything) However, location isn't everything and if anything they should notify customers when they need to bring things that are not provided for the bathrooms , or when they need to specify if they leave the hotel for the staff...

Séjour du 12 au 14 Décembre:||Comme je l'avais lu parmi les commentaires, le patron de cet hôtel ne songe pas à aider ses clients à porter leurs valises. Il n'y a pas d'ascenseur, seulement des escaliers||Je suis arrivé là fourbu sur une mauvaise indication: En sortant du bateau, il vous faut absolument longer les bâtiments des bureaux des cars qui sont sur votre droite, puis arrivé à la station d'essence ANCAP vous verrez un gros bloc en briques sur votre gauche, c'est AYRES.||Ne prenez pas la rue centrale sinon vos valises vont souffrir et vous aussi: çà monte et trottoirs comme chaussée sont sévèrement abimés, et c'est nettement plus long||Donc j'avais réservé une chambre AVEC balcon sur booking et je me suis retrouvé dans la chambre 3 au rez de chaussée. Je m'en suis aperçu un peu tard mais m'en suis ouvert au patron car je visais une autre chambre. Visiblement ma remarque l'agace et il me montre la chambre juste au dessus de la mienne. Effectivement le balcon est tout petit, mais s'il j'avais senti qu'il acceptait de m'aider pour les valises, je l'aurais prise. Vu sa tête, j'ai préféré ne pas insister et je paierai donc le prix fort!!!!!!!||Emplacement: effectivement l'hôtel est super bien placé, ne redoute aucune concurrence, car à mi chemin entre la vieille ville et la gare (vous êtes à 5 minutes à pied de votre bus si vous partez à Montevideo||Supermarchés: il y a plusieurs grosses épiceries dont une à 5 minutes de l'hôtel, mais attention la vie à Colonia del Sacramento est plus chère qu'ailleurs....Ils en profitent!!!!||Chambre: je n'ai pas vu de cafards dans la mienne, elle était propre, avec mini frigo et assez vaste pour être tranquille avec les valises||Insonorisation totalement inexistante que ce soit par rapport à l'extérieur qu'entre les chambres ou par rapport aux couloirs. Donc ayez vos bouchons oreilles car ils seront indispensables surtout si des jeunes viennent s'amuser dans le secteur...........||Petit déjeuner: très classique et pas très intéressant, vraisemblablement bas prix sauf pour les jus de fruits. Ambiance de pompes funèbres.....||Il y a de quoi se nourrir, et un panonceau: "interdiction d'emmener des aliments dans sa|| chambre" . Cela ne me serait pas venu à l'idée, mais le panneau en lui même m'a choqué car démontre un état d'esprit qui laisse à désirer par rapport aux clients. Je n'ai jamais vu cela nulle part!!!!!!||Quand ce sont les femmes qui sont à l'accueil, l'ambiance m'est apparue plus sympa mais comme par hasard, il semble que le patron veille. En fait je n'ai pas prolongé mon séjour car en plus la vieille ville peut se visiter largement...
