I checked into this hotel for one night and asked the front desk (lady) if I would be able to watch the football game in my room (England was playing). She says yes and low and behold, the game was no where to be found on tv as it was just stuck on the channel where it's supposed to be playing. I went to La Pasiva (a restaurant) to watch the game. Earlier, I asked if I can check out later and the guy said at 11AM (their checkout time is at 10AM). Then, I return to shower and get ready since I watched the football game elsewhere and while getting ready, the front desk calls me and tells me that I have to check out otherwise she would call the police. I had to go to another place to watch the match and I had late checkout which was at 11. Granted I am an hour late of checking out but it was unnecessary to call the police. They should have been more understanding and let the one hour go especially the tv was not playing the match. The lady locked the hotel's front door and we waited for the police. This was very unprofessional, inappropriate, and just wrong. I spoke with the police and told him the situation and he recommended that I file a complaint with the La Camara Hotelera y Turistica de Colonia. I submitted a complaint since the police told me that he cannot tell how a hotel treats their guest and even when this hotel was wrong, there was nothing he can do. This is a terrible hotel and it was cheap, but calling the police and locking the door was uncalled for and unnecessary. I do not recommend this place, take your money elsewhere and pay for a more expensive lodging. Uruguay is an expensive country like Punta, Montevideo and Colonia while it's the worst city I have ever been into and I travel frequently, poor, without much culture, nothing like Buenos Aires and no need to be this expensive. Do not waste your time in Uruguay. Stay in Buenos Aires if you can. There are so many places to see in Argentina and going to Uruguay is just a waste of money,...
Read moreOnly 10 minutes walk from the bus station, this excellent hotel offers so much. Easy access, clean and extremely helpful staff. Our standard double room was clean and comfy, with ample hot water.||Whilst staying here we encountered an issue with a restaurant bill, that had been paid in another city in Uruguay. The reception staff assisted by liaising between ourselves and the restaurant owner to resolve this rather large over payment. Hotel Romi went beyond what they needed too to assist, for which we are greatly thankful.||Breakfast is included and typical continental. There is fresh juice and plenty of hot coffee / tea.||To walk into the old town takes about 15 minutes along a pleasant road that has shops and other interesting buildings /...
Read moreThis hotel is just a short 10 minute walk from the Port. The sidewalks are a bit uneven at times so I walked in the street with my rolling suitcase. The hotel is in a mostly quiet street and a short walk from the colonial area and the water. I really liked my room, it was clean and spacious. The staff here was very friendly and helpful with any questions we had. My only complaint was the very limited breakfast that was included. They had coffee, bananas, apples and these small pastries that were not very good. We only stayed one night since we were traveling somewhere else but I would definitely recommend if you're...
