We visited last year and the memory of staying here still really bothers me so I had to leave a review.
The good: Great location Great breakfast Great room with power AC
The bad: booking.com advertised no extra fees (I'm aware you have to pay the city tax) but we were charged significantly more than the cost of the room and city tax. The owner asked us to cancel our booking.com for a minor discount but we still payed too much. I asked about a taxi to the Turkmenistan border he said 600,000 som. I asked a random taxi driver and paid 250,000 som. You shouldn't try to scam your guests is very poor form. The wife offer to cook for us and said it would be cheaper than the restaurants. We agreed to have it for dinner that night. We went out for the day had a massive lunch and returned to the hotel. She had prepared plov for us but we were full and had not asked for lunch. She saved it for dinner and it was really tasty. It cost the same or more than a non-touristy restaurant. We asked to do laundry and it was going to cost $10 USD per load and we needed to do two loads. We said it was too much and settled for $5 each per load. I have been travelling for 1 year and would have been the most expensive laundry of the trip if we settled for $10 USD. we changed hotels to stay with a friend since Mironshox was full (Uncle Kolya hotel). Uncle Kolya is the same price and doesn't overcharge you with mystery fees, just the room cost and city tax. He's lovely, stay here instead. When I told the owner was quite unhappy and a bit nasty. He said his neighbour's hotel was not good and it was better to stay with him (not true, next door was great and much cheaper)
Overall, all the interactions I had were strained and I often felt...
Read moreWe arrived early in the morning and could get into the room right away. We also got offered breakfast - it was homemade and delicious. More than impressed by the room size/looks and the choice of breakfast every morning.
The bed is huge and comfortable. The shower is hot and everything is very clean and feels like home. The room has a TV (no English channels), but that’s fine and to be expected. Also a kettle, fridge and aircon if needed.
Only downside: the wifi didn’t work too well in the room. My phone and laptop connected with very weak signal, but our other devices didn’t at all. In the common area the signal was strong though.
Would stay here again and recommend it...
Read moreOne of the best family-run boutique hotels I have ever stayed at. The family always goes above and beyond to ensure you are comfortably settled in and enjoy your stay. The rooms are clean and spacious. Breakfast is excellent, and they also serve decent lunch and dinner at a very reasonable price, but you need to let them know in advance. It’s within walking distance of all the historical attractions.
If you happen to arrive by train in the early morning, I recommend asking the family to arrange a taxi pickup from the station to the hotel, as Yandex Go taxi may not be available. The private taxi service at the station was very expensive, and you’ll need to...
