I booked a one-room family suite with Voco Ma Belle Danang which comes with a king-sized bed and a bunk bed for my family of 5, consisting of my husband, myself and my three children aged 12, 7 and 2. Under the search function on Agoda, I entered 2 adults and 3 children, inputting the specific ages of each of them.
When I was selecting the one-room family suite, there were 2 options: one which showed “3 adults and 2 children (0-11 years)” at a more expensive rate, and another one which showed “2 adults and 2 children (0-11 years)” at a cheaper rate.
I opted for the “3 adults and 2 children” option and paid the more expensive price.
One day before my arrival at the hotel, I received a message from Voco, telling me that I would have to pay an additional USD30++ per night because my 12yo is considered an adult based on their hotel policy. At that point in time, I was not able to cancel my booking without paying a penalty of 50% of the room value.
When I was at the hotel reception counter, the duty manager Vu said I booked the room for 2 adults and 2 children, and therefore had to pay an additional charge for my 12yo, who is considered an adult in their hotel. He took my phone and showed me the on the Agoda app, that it was stated that 12yo is considered an adult in their hotel policy.
I tried to explain that I have opted for the “3 adults 2 children” option when I booked the room and have already paid more for it. Even if my 12yo is considered an adult, it should have been sufficient. The suite had 1 king bed and 2 single bed for my family of 5 (with the baby sharing our king bed), and we didn’t need an extra bed. By being charged USD$30++ per night, that would be a double charge for me.
The manager asked me to show him my booking confirmation. After looking at it, he said it was my fault that I did not input 3 adults and 2 children at the search page of the Agoda website, and as a result, my booking showed that I booked the suite for 2 adults and 3 children. And because of that, I would need to be charged for my 12yo since she is not considered a child anymore.
I showed him on the spot that on the Agoda search page, the price of the room remained the same if I had selected “3 adults and 2 children” or “2 adults and 3 children”.
He kept saying I did not understand their hotel policy and insisted it was my problem that I didn’t input 3 adults and 2 children on the search page in the first place.
I asked if he could, out of goodwill, allow me to do a free cancellation of my booking, and I would immediately rebook the room by entering 3 adults and 2 children. Again, he said no and asked me to pay the penalty charge for cancellation.
In the end, we were forced to pay the additional charges for my 12yo since we couldn’t cancel the booking.
I originally planned to stay in Voco for 4 nights. I am so glad that we made the decision to stay there only for 2 nights and to stay in another hotel for another 2 nights before moving to another city in Vietnam.
Even though I had entered the same search option of 2 adults and 3 children with their ages when I booked other hotels (where their hotel policy considered a 7yo an adult), I did not have such a problem that I faced with Voco.
Of all the hotels that I have stayed at, be it in Vietnam or other countries, this is the only hotel which is so inflexible in their thinking and has no warmth.
Given that there are so many hotels in Da Nang, I would suggest trying out other hotels and not go to one which is not...
Read moreThis was a great find for solo travelers, couples and families with kids. The Family Room is spacious with a king size bed and bunk beds (see pictures). Large spacious bathroom, mini fridge, couch and a place to put luggage. Also has a large desk with chair.
TV was very easy to use and to hook up a streaming device was simple and fast. I used my Amazon FireTV stick 4K with my VPN. No issues. Roku, Apple TV etc will work as well.
One downside for 2025... Wifi is SLOW! 12Mbps down is atrocious. I expected faster Wi-Fi at a nice hotel like this.
Bathroom and room we very clean. Water pressure was great giving you the options of rain fall, spray or handheld. Soap, shampoo and conditioner were all great.
Drinking water is free, ask for as much as you like. The AC worked very well.
Beds are super comfortable! Ohh my goodness! Some of the best I've slept in and I've traveled all over the world for a long time now.
The roof top pool on the 26th floor is awesome! Great variety for all ages. Incredible views and really good food. I tried a lot of things from the menu and it was all good. Really great Mocktails since I do not drink alcohol always love seeing that. Highly recommend the Kiwi Cooler 👍👍 it transforms on three weekends at night with DJ and lights but I'd still kid friendly.
Room service was amazing and very fast. All the food was really good.
Staff was awesome! Everyone was so nice. I am realty going to miss them all. They made the week a really special stay. They work so hard.
Spa located by the gym on the 25th floor is really nice. I was very impressed and highly recommend you try it. Book in advance though.
Beaches including family friendly are located right across the street. Very convenient. There also a boardwalk that goes for miles and beaches for adults, kids, young people, you'll find it all. Breathtaking views and cheap.
There's a convenience store right next door Z-Mart to get snacks and drinks and even cherry coke.
Overall I'm very happy choosing this hotel and would for sure come back here. I highly recommend it and I hope you have an amazing vacation in Da Nang. I had an amazing time in the...
Read moreLet me start by saying the hotel is beautiful and the rooms are spacious and it was hands down the best and most comfy bed we had the entire trip.
The problem is with the facility/ops management.
There are only 2 lifts opposing each other and they don't communicate. So everyone presses both sides to call a lift and they are painfully slow. Once inside and let me tell you they are tiny! the lift then stops at nearly every floor as everyone has pressed both sides but has left, so most of the stop are empty by this stage and the staff also do not have their own good/staff lift.
This means that the team, management and maintenance people are in the lift about 80% of the time also stopping at various floors. I cannot tell you how frustrating it is to stop on 21 floors to get to ground with angry taxi drivers calling who have been waiting 10 minutes for me to come down a lift. I've never waited longer, stopped on every floor or been in such a disorganised and frustrating hotel lift in my life.
Next, the Spa, gym and pool are on level 25-26 and only 1 lift goes to that floor so you have to stop and swap at level 24 (wait 5 mins again) and this also explains why that lift was always wet!
You honestly need to budget about 10 minutes to get out of the building which is something I've never experience in a big and busy hotel.
The second issue is that the room cleaners bash on the door at 9 am screaming - housekeeping! Despite the fact I had pressed the do not disturb button which is illuminated at the front door. After day 3 I realised you also need to hang the door card which negates the do not disturb button in the first place!
On the days we left around 10 am and returned at 3 pm, the room was still not cleaned and I wold have to call them. They would then do a 15 minute wipe, tuck and fold whilst we waited on the balcony which was pretty appalling. On day 4 I had to specifically ask for the sheets to be changed and to replace the tea and amenities.
So again, beautiful looking hotel but some major management issues and in all kindness I would absolutely not stay there again unless I knew for certain those issues...
