Our room was nice. We booked the Classic Room and it’s what we got, no upgrade, even though we asked. We had one meal here and it was fine. Overall it was fine. But we had a bunch of little problems that put a bad taste in our mouth about this place.
First, our passenger van wasn’t allowed to come through the town, because it was the September 1 Holiday weekend, according to the official at the main road. No notice about this from the hotel. We had to get off the van, and take local taxis that Pao’s ordered for us (we paid, not them). We realized later what the hotel got us were about twice the cost of Grab. When we got to the hotel though, we saw a bunch of vans like ours parked in the front lobby. ??
When we checked in, our friends got rooms upgraded, but we didn’t. Tough for us I guess. We’re told the hotel was completely full. But we didn’t see that, despite it being a holiday weekend. That’s not the worst part. The problem was, we had issues with our first room being too close to a public entrance, so we asked for a switch (not an upgrade). The young man at front desk made some rude remarks to my wife in Vietnamese, not realizing she understands Vietnamese. Then he panicked and got someone who’s higher rank to help us out. We ended up switching rooms, but no upgrade for our troubles.
We were told, warned actually, that there would be a holiday surcharge for this weekend, for the gala dinner. When we got here, no mention of this at all. We weren’t charged any surcharge, which is a good thing. Just poor communications is what I’m trying to say.
At the restaurant, the waiter short-changed us when we paid the bill. It might be an honest mistake, but often times, they try that and hope you don’t catch it. I did catch it, so he promptly corrected the mistake, but one wonders…
The air conditioning in all 3 of our rooms didn’t work. It doesn’t respond to your temperature selection.
And finally, on Booking.com, it says they run a free buggy into town centre, but that was not available. Pao’s is out of the way, so we ended up taking Grab every time we wanted to go into town.
Overall, no glaring problems, but we won’t come back next time we’re in Sapa. Pao’s is out of the way, so if it was a splendid hotel, we’d come again, but it wasn’t. We would choose to stay in town, close to the Sapa Cable Car station, which is convenient for going to Fansipan, Cat Cat village, and where all the good...
Read moreMy name is Thomas Songer. I am writing this letter after staying at Pao’s Leisure Hotel in Sa Pa with my partner. This letter is about the poor training as well as the lack facilities and untrained staff during our stay.
I chose your property after reviewing your website which portrays a completely different picture compared to reality. You mentioned that the Deluxe offers a lot of amenities that are not even available in your best rooms.
Ever since I checked in, my experience dwindled. There was no one to show me the room and offer assistance when departing. On e example, a room service attendant couldn’t even speak English, Chinese nor Filipino to answer any of our questions for an order since there was no menu in the suite. It took over 10 minutes to address our concerns and 15 minutes to call the receptionist and another 30 minutes for delivery.
The air conditioner problems (78F controlled air flow) in the deluxe and suite were called 4 times for service. The temperature was cooler outside than inside at times. I never thought I would face self regulated units in a 5 star property. You have electrical equipments that do not work or does not have the power to work shut down. This way you save electricity, I hope.
Speaking of your hotel outside the room, the tables were not cleaned or serviced by the staff. We complained twice. A shortage of staff doesn’t reflect well on a 5 star hotel. In addition I was extremely disappointed that there was no place to eat in the suite when we ordered room service. Big mistake. We are on the sofa.
In short, the mismanaged hotel completely ruined our experience at Sa Pa. It is not the staffs fault but the lake of management skills able to run a hotel of such magnitude. I will definitely take proper action against these issues and make sure not a single star gets into your property.
After trying to offer a full recovery you still failed to make things right. The final mistake was entrusting your staff to follow all the way through to the very end. We had to carry our bags to the curb and translate our messages e to the driver to go back home. We should have e transferred the day we arrived but we wanted to give you a chance again and again. But you failed...
Read morePao’s Sapa Hotel review. The summary: Amazing view 360 degrees, best breakfast. We love having dinner here. Spacious carpark at the front so you feel safe get off/on your uber or Grab pickup. Just a hop from the town centre, yet far enough from the noise and the petrol fume. The full details: you get the best view in Sapa and it is just a hop from town centre. If you want to avoid the choking petrol fumes and the noise this is a good choice. The hotel was built some 15 + years ago so its not brand new but you wont know it because the room is so clean and the bathroom is so modern. The aircon controller doesn't allow guests to have a direct control which i found mildly annoying but fully understandable. The hotel has one of the most spacious carpark out the front and this spaciousness extends to every part of the hotel. We love the front garden complete with seating areas and the shrubs decorated with blooming flowers. You can also access many large gardens on 6th and 8th floors, simply via a door from the lift foyer. Yes they are full blown gardens, not just a balcony with flowers. We stayed here for 4 nights during April 2023. We love dinner here and we had their special dish, which is free-range chicken cooked inside a whole pumpkin. You get this amazing pumpkin soup blended with herbs and juicy chicken. You can ask the chef to cook any disk to your liking just make sure you describe it in details to them. The level of service is very good too. One dinner my wife didn't like the way a spot light was shinning on her. Within 10 sec, a young man with a ladder appeared and the problem was fixed! On the last dinner here we decided to have something extra special. We ask if we could speak to the chef. Mr Linh, who loves having a chat with us, came and made a few suggestions. We picked a prawn dish, so he went to the kitchen and made a special prawn dish for us and had it served with 5 or 6 minutes. It was succulent and flavourful. All the staff here are well presented and they love chatting and so friendly so. You will find that with most of the locals here too. Overall a great great stay for my wife and I. Highly...
