Overpriced for the quality of food, I don't usually do a bad review but this place seriously needs to redo the prices they charge. I came here twice as the first time we only ordered breakfast of chicken fried rice and banh mi. The banh mi had store bought mayonnaise on it and tasted nothing like traditional banh mi. The chicken fried rice was very bland. I put this down to a bad day and decided we would try dinner here but again we were disappointed. We got beef spring rolls, curry in a coconut and duck in honey and sesame. The beef in the spring rolls was very tough and the batter was strange too. The curry in a coconut is about 25% more expensive than other places and it was flavourless! I did however enjoy the duck with honey and sesame that dish was beautiful and the reason I done an extra star for the food.
The staff here (not the owner) don't seem interested in helping anyone and service is super slow. You don't get a smile and they seem very reluctant doing their the job.
It's honestly bitter sweet for me to write this bad review as the owner couldn't be nicer and checked up on us a few times. He was all smiles and I can tell they were genuine. Even when I was leaving he came up to me and showed me what I ordered to double check everything was correct, not trying to add anything extra like I had in another restaurant further up the hill (I won't mention names but just be aware to check your receipts). He seems like a down to earth and decent human being but the prices...
Read moreMy meal here was disappointing. I chose this restaurant based on the number of reviews and the ratings but I am perplexed by my experience with the food. I ordered: Egg coffee, coconut coffee, banh xeo, bun cha and fresh spring roll (pork).
My rating is pushed up by their drinks. Their drinks were not bad. But it was all downhill from there.
Fresh spring roll - Flavours were alright. But the first red flag came when the rice paper rolls were falling apart before I even touched them
Banh xeo - Then came the Banh Xeo which had a very odd flavour, probably from the huge amount of onion. It didn't have the usual ingredients like shrimp or bean sprouts. Critically, the banh xeo was a doughy and soggy pancake, probably from the onions and minced meat steaming in the omelette. It was missing the crispness and freshness that is the basic element of banh xeo
Bun cha - Last came Bun Cha. I knew it was a disaster when it arrived. The Bun Cha dipping sauce was the exact same as Banh Xeo and the spring rolls. It came with fried spring rolls which were falling apart. The meat patties were also tough. Gave up on finishing this dish.
Overall, the food was disappointing, especially considering they were listed under "speciality" in the menu. To be fair, drinks and service...
