This hotel is very close to the center of District 1 and offers private rooms with secure storage for your belongings, yet it is incredibly affordable at around 2,000 JPY per night. Depending on the timing, you can find rates as low as 1,700 JPY per night on Agoda, making it an excellent deal. For those staying longer than a week, this hotel is a great option to save on accommodation costs.
One thing to note is that early check-in seems difficult, as the check-in email only arrives around 2:00 PM. However, even if you arrive on an early flight, you can leave your luggage in the hotel’s backyard and start exploring with just your valuables. Since it gets very hot during the day, it’s best to walk around in the morning or in the evening. If you need to move around during the hot daytime, using Grab bike or taxi is a comfortable option.

Rooms & Facilities
The rooms are clean and odor-free. When I visited in March, I hardly saw any insects. There is no outside noise, but you can hear sounds from neighboring rooms, which might be an issue for light sleepers.
The hotel is air-conditioned throughout, which keeps it cool, but I found it slightly cold. I turned off the air conditioner while in the room, but the entire building was still cool, so I needed to wear an extra layer.
The showers and toilets are shared, with two on each floor. The shower drainage was not great, and during my 8-day stay, the last 4 days had some water overflow in the dressing area, though it wasn’t a major issue. The water pressure is low but still functional. Body soap and shampoo are provided.
The cleanliness of the toilets depends on the other guests using the same floor. They weren’t spotlessly clean, but not dirty enough to be uncomfortable. Like many three-star hotels in Vietnam, toilet paper cannot be flushed and must be thrown in a bin, though surprisingly, there was no noticeable odor.
There is one hair dryer in the wash area, which should be sufficient for those with short hair.
I am not sure if room cleaning or towel and sheet replacement was available upon request, but it did not seem to be a standard service.

This hotel also operates a banh mi shop, and their banh mi is affordable and delicious. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Whenever I asked for something or had a question, they responded cheerfully and did their best to assist me.

Read moreStayed at Grandma Lu Japan Town Hostel. The location is great, very accessible and just walking distance to popular spots and massage places. The room was fairly clean (though there were some stains on the sheets), and the shared toilet and bath were also clean.
Only issue was I was given the wrong main door code. I arrived late at night, and the number in the instructions wasn’t answering. Took almost an hour before I found another contact on their website who finally gave me the correct code. Hopefully, they can update their instructions and provide the correct contact number, especially for guests arriving late and tired from traveling.
Despite that, I’d still say it’s a good place overall. Perfect for solo travelers since the rates are cheap and the area feels convenient and safe.

Read moreJust don’t go there, trust me. This is not a Hotel, Hostel or whatever. Firstly you have to walk through a whole café to access the elevator to the rooms. Then I don’t think it is mentionned but it is not a Mattress it is a VERY THIN LAYER of not even foam, on top of a rigid wood. And I can still not believe the Rudeness of the guy that sleeps in the café at night controlling Who enters. It is not a fun place to stay, not confortable, and rude staff. Also, imposible to maintain hot water in the shower, and the toilets are DISGUSTING (not cleaned) eventhough They have the famous automatic spray and fan incorporated. Will 10000% not recommend it and am writing to Trip.com for a refund for this joke of the mattress. The name Grandma Lu, I thought it was going to be a fun authentic place to stay, but has no charm, no grandma, and you do not do what you want in your Tiny Uncomfortable room.Avoid...
