The rooms have ZERO soundproofing. You will hear noises of every kind from every direction. If another guest chooses to stand in the hallway and yell at her equally loud children then you’re going to hear it - and this seems to be a common occurrence here and at other 4 and 5 star hotels. You have no guarantee that the other guests will have any idea how to act courteously despite the price you’ve paid for what is supposed to be a higher quality experience.
The doors are also extremely painfully dumb, they beep loudly every time you open them and if you do not close it properly it will start beeping constantly which annoys other people in the area. If you are closing it from the outside of the room the only way to close it properly and prevent it from beeping is to pull it so hard that the door SLAMS shut. So you will hear plenty of beeping and doors slamming because again, the rooms offer no soundproofing and this hotel has a lot of very loud sounds.
You will wonder what the other guests are doing in the rooms above and next door to you from the incredible bumps and bangs.
Two mornings in a row I have been woken at around 6:20am and 6:50am due to the noise of other guests (not counting the doors slamming and beeping) and it’s absolutely pointless to complain as I’m already awake and my sleep disrupted by this point.
The wifi is also completely godawful. The access points either disappear and reappear from within your room with no obvious reason as to why, or you can connect to an access point with full signal but your device will point out there is no internet on this access point. This will last hours until they seemingly reset the router overnight or enough of the other guests get off of the connection that it starts to work again some time in the early morning.
I was actually going to write this review last night but couldn’t as the hotel internet would not work on both my iphone and laptop, and my roommates iphone and macbook air. It’s beyond a joke for a country like Vietnam. And when it does work speed is a measly 20-30Mbit at best but will often slow to a crawl or drop out by itself. Maybe if they didn’t have the wifi set to open access with no password and no security, maybe then it would work a little better. Seems like the network might be a little congested, among other issues. That said elsewhere in Vietnam there are open hotspots that don’t have these issues.
Trying to order a single item from the room service menu was harder than it should be. We went back and forth as to what item I wanted and the amount and my room number. Very basic stuff but apparently they needed to clarify and repeat it multiple times and rather than saying “I dont understand” or “could you repeat that” or anything that might help progress the conversation, I was given long silences and I have to...
Read moreI’ve been to France. I stayed at French hotels. This place felt more French than some French hotels I’ve been at. How? The decor, the tall ceilings, the mounding, the drapery, the claw foot tub, the dresser, etc. Yes, there’s a beautiful claw foot tub for you to use in your room.
Now, apart from the French style, let me tell you why I enjoyed this hotel and would come back to stay here: staff, large room, vanity of feeling fancy.
One - cool staff. I came to the hotel when Vietnam was in the semi final for the U23 futbol match. I went up to the top floor to watch the game on their television. There was no television, but I struck up a peculiar friendship with the bartender. He didn’t speak English and I don’t speak Vietnamese, but we shared an iPhone 8 Plus screen and watched the game together. We mimed what we wanted to say and did a ton of high fives. That’s just one specific instance of how cool the staff was among many others.
Two - the rooms are huge. 37-41 square meters is huge. That’s 400 - 440 sq ft. That’s bigger than some apartments in San Francisco and Manhattan.
Three - vanity. It was so fancy that I felt fancy...
Read moreStayed here for two nights over the busy holiday period in April. Was a little hesitant at first as this was the only hotel in Hue with availability and a relatively good review rating when I booked around 2 weeks in advance.
The hotel and room were absolutely stunning, and the service was fantastic. Staff took our case out of the taxi, and it was immediately brought to our room upon check in. Whilst the staff checked us in, we were asked to sit down with a complementary check in.
Air conditioning works well, and unlike some other hotels, we were given two cards to allow it to keep running whilst not in the room. The bed was extremely comfy, and housekeeping took place every day. The only gripe would be the strange arrangement of the toilet within the same area as the shower, however it was so big it didn't make any difference.
Location is great, around a 10 minute walk into the centre of Hue, and the same to the river. We never got to use the pool, and the sky bar was closed at our time of visiting. The lift goes straight to street level, so you can come and go as you please without needing to climb any stairs or walk...
