I stayed for 6 nights, the rooms were clean. the staff in the lobby were excellent. the main reason for the low score was, at the end of the week, I invited a physician group to come to the happy hour, after a week of training and working together. at the happy hour, several of the physicians (who were 80% locals) ordered drinks, this during the happy hour buy 1 get 1 free time between 5-7pm. i ordered drinks for myself and a few of the late comers, a total of 3 times. each order, i confirmed with the waitress, we are still ok with the happy hour deal? the 3rd order, i literally called it out, saying, its 6:56pm, is it still ok to get the happy hour deal? all of these orders were for 2 of the same drink, as well, so there was no confusion regarding what was going on. When it was time to go, i told everyone i would cover the bill, since i invited the group (of about 15 people/drinks). the bill was over 2 million dong, or 80 dollars. No discount had been put into the orders. I pulled out my card, and almost didnt see this. Only when i asked about the buy 1 get one happy hour deal, she went and talked with her manager, and after a few minutes of them talking, she returned and told me that if we wanted a second drink, they would be willing to make us all 15 more drinks. we were heading out already, for a dinner reservation, and I said no, let me speak with the manager. i explained to him, along with the local physicians who were also ordering their drinks, and he basically said he didnt care what we were saying, and that the only thing he could offer now was if we wanted to stick around, they would make another set of ~15 drinks for us. The drinks took about 15 minutes per handful, so it would have meant another 40-50 minute investment in this place. the whole thing seemed shady, as again, if I had not mentioned anything, they would have just charged me the full cost of the drinks. And so each of the times I had asked about the happy hour special (for the 3 orders that I had given to the waitress at different times, for different guests that had arrived at separate times), each of those times i had asked about the happy hour special, then they were just lying, or hoping I would not catch this. i must say, this was an embarassing experience for me as the person who invited the group. I really would not have expected this type of thing at a high level hotel that is used to having guests who are willing to pay, but for the peace of mind that they dont have to be on the lookout for being cheated or tricked and a classy hotel.
Not so at the Melia Vinpearl! Talking with the manager Hung went nowhere, so ultimately i just paid, and left. So if you do choose to stay there, would recommend going over all of your receipts, as it seems there are factions within the hotel, who are trying to bait and switch or hussle you when your mind is on...

Update - August 12 to 17 2024 Stay (changed to 1 star from 4):
Booked 3 rooms (2 premiums (some with view), 1 deluxe) for 9 members of family (7 adults, 2 children). Only mine and my wife's room (2 adults) did not include breakfast because we can not wake up early. The hotel management team does not know how to or simply cannot handle the situation of different bookings and assigned rooms, along with the lacking of flexibility causing my father having to pay extra for breakfast and a lot of stress for my family. If you are running a 5-star hotel, yet your system can not tie the rooms together and have your employees enter the notes into the system to notify the breakfast staff of the booking situation, leaving them clueless.
The hotel staff are too rigid with the hotel policy set out that they do not know how to properly address my family's concerns. For example, I told the staff that my family would love to stay on the same floor. They can easily address that issue by letting me know what types of rooms are available and that if I need to upgrade or downgrade my premium + view room in order to get us onto the same floor. But since they're so adamant that I must go to the room I booked, they ended up splitting us up. After learning of the hotels limitations and lack of flexibility and after speaking to the staffs, I try to book all the subsequent rooms based on the types of rooms I believe is more readily available so that they can try to get us on the same floor. They still fail to get us onto the same floor of the 4 out of 5 days stay. And after already having to move twice, I gave up trying because it's tiring.
I learned that the hotel will readily ask you to pay extra for any upgrades but will not offer you any compensation for any of the downgrades. Basically, if you want to stay on the same floor and as long as you pay extra, you'll probably get what you want. maybe?
My advice is to never book the premium rooms if you travel with more than 4 people and want to be on the same floor. They will screw up.
I'm very disappointed in the...
Read moreWe enjoyed a 1 night stay here and used the facilities widely. Our first room was falling apart, plug sockets off the wall, drawer handles falling off and this was quickly rectified by the reception staff and FOH manager. We were moved room to a bigger room with an outstanding corner view and were left a lovely present apologizing for the room, a great personal touch. Additionally we had dinner at their restaurant with a set western menu which was outstanding. Feedback to the kitchen would be to stop rushing each course out as we only had 1 minute between each dish, we had to ask for the desert to be taken back 3 times. I’d suggest asking guests if they are ready, especially at the price point. We also bought tickets for their 5 year anniversary party which we specifically asked at the bar earlier that day of the “Dj” music would be loud (as in vinahouse music) as I’ve lived in Vietnam for 2 years. We were told at the start of the night it wouldn’t be but as soon as we finished dinner and arrived, there were 6 other guests there and the chef was playing vinahouse music at a level where we had to leave as we couldn’t have a conversation. We left after 1 beer. That same night, we spoke to the front desk and advised our frustrations about what we were told and was advised it will be dealt with. Upon checking out we asked about the feedback and hoped some sort of reimbursement would be offered (760,000VND) for 2 tickets. After waiting around 20 minutes and the front office calling managers, we were basically told tough luck, it was a dj and we don’t believe what you were saying about what you were told. My guess is that occupancy at the event was low and they didn’t want to lose ticket sales. This really left a sour taste in our mouth and their offer to us was giving us late check out, when we checked out…at 12. Overall, a mixed feeling about this stay, probably wouldn’t reccomend to anyone thinking about an east stay. Feedback to hotel, take your guests side when needed, improve your serving times and clear up your communication between...
